" The carrying value of idea was reduced to nil last FY"
I was of the impression though that VOD still carried liabilities with regards to VI... at least this deal would reduce the risks of having to payout those liabilities if everything had completely collapsed
Trying hard to drop back below £1.17 - nows the usual time the fall begins
'With the Indian Government as V.I.'s largest shareholder, maybe things will miraculously start going V.I.'s way.'
I imagine so. Think its one of those signals heralding the return of globalisation after trump..
Bloomberg just discussing deglobalisation as a driver of inflation, so interest will be peaked if you are a policy maker concerned about inflation. Nick is also evidencing his global leadership, reinforcing the 'social contract' strategy whilst delivering appropriate ROC.
We might see something in Europe next!
"The carrying value of idea was reduced to nil last FY. Presumably the dilution is 'nil' with cashflow commitments underpinned by Gov?"
Indeed, I would see this as a positive since Vodafone had one foot out of the door, and was likely on the verge of walking away. The regulatory and Government policies have hammered Vodafone Idea, and miraculously aided Jio over recent years. With the Indian Government as V.I.'s largest shareholder, maybe things will miraculously start going V.I.'s way.
Thanks Pokerchips.
The carrying value of idea was reduced to nil last FY. Presumably the dilution is 'nil' with cashflow commitments underpinned by Gov?
Vodafone Idea has approved a rescue plan to make India’s government its largest shareholder, nationalising an almost 36 per cent stake in the flailing telecoms operator to prevent its collapse.
If the government accepts the calculations, it will walk away with a 35.8 per cent stake. The shareholdings of other investors would be diluted, leaving Vodafone Group with 28.5 per cent and Aditya Birla with 17.8 per cent.
Shares in Vodafone Idea on India’s National Stock Exchange fell 14 per cent on Tuesday morning to Rs12.8 ($0.17).

Vodafone has had some big volumes going through on various days, not as dramatic as BT's leading up to the Drahi anouncement, but still significant. Daily volumes seem really high anyway, but some of the days exceed Lloyds volumes, which is interesting.

Moan moan moan - looks like back to normal again today - will we lose all yesterdays gains !!!!!
I imagine a world where people who have absolutely no idea how dividends cause an ex div fall but have no outcome on payment days some months later can come on here and give advice about the price falling "inter div".
Theluckyguy I was only joking btw, this has been going backwards for so long, I think most people here will be happy just by seeing even small progress each week, just a little hope that this is going in the right direction will hopefully change the mood here
robleo. I disagree!!! & I don't like moaning & fighting ! Am I right? or am I wrong!!? But don't switch off! Unless you want a fight? I do however agree with theluckyguy, far too much moaning. Will tomorrow be a good day, or a moaning day?
So maybe compound was right, maybe something is brewing, I hope so let's hope we can keep the momentum going, we don't want an anti climax now
ps totally to much moaning on this board lets all get on, we are all invested in vod...........
am feeling good on this at the moment lets keep the positive vibes going , ive levelled down to 121, but the divy will make it for me, fingers crossed :::))))
Dan, I think I have said to you before, it would be a very dull and boring world if we were all the same and agreed on everything, great to see the sp rising, but come on let's get a few moans and fights going here as well, or everyone will just switch off -))
robleo. So have I, (doing it all wrong that is) but what goes down must come up? Or is the other way around? O.K. A bit dodgy that one! So how long until you happy lot start moaning again? Happy days? Every week a little higher would be fantastic for me.
excellent tip there Dan, I've been doing it all wrong lol, nice to see everyone happy on here, if we can finish each week a little higher that will be good enough for me
Best of luck guys
robleo. What is wrong with you? You buy vod shares when the sp is low, then sell when it goes up, then buy back again when it falls, & then sell when it goes up, & so on?! Any idiot can do that, can't they?? Simple?? You could always just pretend?
Gary. Great day today for vod sp. Feb 2nd is the date for the Q3 FY22. trading update. Not results.
do we all think that the SP is going to rise a bit more, loads of buy ratings & possible approach by someone????????
MaryBr what are the 'results next week" that you mention in your post?
Unless I have missed something the only thing in January is the FX rate which will be announced on 28th Jan.
Nice tick up the last few trading days, 2022 is looking good so far.
I agree Mikey - It would be nice to hold onto to some of these gains, although I wouldn't be surprised to see it drop back to around 114p to close the gap up from this morning and test the 100MA as support - don't panic if it does!
There were some pretty chunky off book trades today and overall volume back up to mid December levels which is driving the price up. It looks like we're forming a good base ahead of Q3 update, and I'm still confident of 140p+ by May, and I'm ready to be surprised to the upside!
Quite a violent rotation going on today from growth to value. Makes a change to see the US indexes take an absolute pasting but it's one of the best days I've had in a while!
Let's hope the rotation doesn't turn into a general rout, although tbh I'm pretty bullish at the moment. Yanks are still having a hissy fit about the Fed being more hawkish than they previously thought, but they'll soon realise that's because the US economy is in great shape which is good for stocks, and then we'll get a snap back.
Narrative on COVID is changing here as well - moving from pandemic to endemic, and from talking about lockdowns to reducing isolation periods even more. If that happens and we get back to some kind of normal then VOD and other value stocks could have a very good year!
Well a nice rise today so far - it would be great if we could hold onto most of it but looking at the markets now it looks as though we will be down around £1.17 by close time if not lower
Apart from last July the sp is on the up around payment date and then it drops. That way you pay more/share. It makes sense that the market will raise the price for reinvestors does it not?
We saw bottom out at 106p last week and now its turned as we approach the results next week. Nothing to do with any takeover rumour (I wish)
