I see what you've done there dan, it will be a double win, if it hits the highest price, best of luck, Mikey will be very smug if he wins again
Hi Dan,' So what you mean by top slicing?'
Locking in some gains on VOD purchases and leaving the balance to ride any volatility. I sometimes use leveraged long or short products to balance my risk and stop fiddling with my stockholdings! Today was a day not to fiddle with the VOD holding imo, hence not selling.
Well, I can't have that, so I will go 1.43 as well? A tie doesn't count? Only joking? So I will go 1.44. Would I cheat?
Gary.. Yomping in the hills eh? You should try skiing in the sunshine, far better, but more risky perhaps? Have a good weekend.
On reflection I think Cevion & any other activist investors would be glad vod turned down the bid. Cevion, & the vod B.O.D. want mergers & cost saving co operation, not the sale of a big chunk of vodafone. What would vod do with £12 billion. If they pay of deb't, can they save more in interest on the £12billion than they can make in profits from the Italian vodafone? Probably not? Vod want to increase profits, whilst gradually paying down deb't, & am pretty sure that is not only the plan of the activist investors, but also Nick Read as his band of merry men!
142 for me, Dan leave this be a lesson to you, cheating doesn't Pay lol
Dan I really posted this in order to assist anyone newish to the game reading the comments, it helps I think to sometimes temper enthusiasm with a bit of realism. I have recently read quite a few posts here & on ADVFN of people with supposedly large holdings & little or no diversification whatsoever.
Talking about realism I have I read Mikey correctly or am I dreaming?
Have a good weekend Dan & all, I shall be yomping through the Quantock Hills, possibly in the rain!!
Hello Gary. I think most people on this forum would agree with your low risk advise, so I am baffled as to why you think most on here don't diversify, why do you think that? I get the impression that most on here do diversify. Anyway good luck.
So I will continue with my positive guesses - £1.43 - I feel things are happening and we will continue upwards ;)
I worry, particularly on this board, that some holders don't seem to diversify their holdings enough.
I have been investing for over 35 years & the No 1 thing without doubt that I have learnt is to diversify & have a mixture of share in different categories thereby minimising risk. I also have a mixture of shares & funds, I am prioritising funds now as I approach state pension age (3 years away).
Each to their own but to the novice investor reading these boards please consider this. It is all too easy to get emotionally attached to a share that you have put your hard earned money into.
For example very simply, oil shares are booming for obvious reasons & banks will prosper with the stated interest rate rises which will occur in an attempt to reduce inflation.
A nice rise here though so GL All.
He has only gone & won again after singing the earwig song earlier!!, but well done Mikey, & I agree with your earlier post about a knee jerk reaction to rejecting the bid.
Hi robleo. Me, definitely not. I could always pretend that I did afterwards!! if the sp falls. But he said he is not selling, so I don't know what he means? Hence my question. Many on here talk about trimming down & then topping up, but they never explain there deals. I call it hindsight wisdom! Or I could call it something else?! But Gary might tell ma off?!
Dan, I think what he means by top slicing is selling off his last top up or maybe a bit more, are you thinking of doing the same ?

Hi Android. So what you mean by top slicing?
Well happy with that - have a good weekend all - surely i didnt win the weekly guess
Recently added 7,583 Vodafone shares today, around 138p.
weekend newspapers are made for bid speculations and more drama. I don't think we will be in the red too long. Better to be in Friday eve than trying to get in Mond.
Bernstein analyst Stan Noel yesterday maintained a Buy on Vodafone with a price target of 160p. Noel’s price target suggests 15.57% upside potential.
Consensus among analysts is a Strong Buy based on 13 Buys. The average Vodafone price target of 170.75p implies 23.34% upside potential to current levels.

Dan, 'how do you know what the top is? Are you selling today?'
Not selling today. As Frankie says 'shooting stars never stop, even when they reach the top'
Hello Android, You say you are top slicing, but how do you know what the top is? Are you selling today? Isn't this all just a load of crystal balls? Good luck.
Here we go - the midday drop begins
Porsche, agree generally but short term, for example, someone bought 170m at c138 on Wednesday. I am just following the money and top slicing. I wont be following it down to 110 ' if a bid or breakup doesn’t materialise'!
Google is a great company so good luck.
I suppose we are going to bounce around at £1.38 and then make another drop down below £1.37 . Fingers crossed we can hold up today
