Just went 83.99 for a few seconds
Think I'll get a takeaway tonight, it being Friday and celebrate not being tempted by Vodafones 'bargain' price shares.
Normally i do take reckless gambles but not this time.
you would have to chuckle if verizon comms came in with a cheeky low ball offer and walked away with the spoils! People talking about vod only being a utility - i have news , that is all it is until they develop another platform offering entertainment. A rival to M and H - Prince A arguing with his butler about who should pick up the corgi poop. take care and don't buy too many vod shares until the new year, santa rally will be a little late this year.
only hope is a takeover at 110p to cut losses
The markets rose 400 points and vodafone has continued to drop. If logic remains it should have risen when the markets rose. It didn't because the spin machine trying to paint a rosy picture failed again
Not all VOD is regulated. It would be the competition commission/ competition advisory tribunals who decide. If reid lost the job for the consolidation strategy and slow rot, then the new CEO/hostile takeover could be combination of different industries. Why wouldnt eg Google be interested and divest the bits it doesnt want to keep, grow small business/ internet economy etc
life in the old dog yet.
I am out of contract this month but dont really need a new handset so voxi looks a good offer
If MDV can reduce churn/ increase acquisitions, these seasonal sales will show up in this FY results without the need for capex imo
Regulator would block take over bid. It’s never going private either ..
At this rate and current trend, soon the Vantage Towers market cap (ca EUR17billion) is as big as the entire market cap of Vod.
IMO this is now ripe for a hostile take-over bid. Mind numbing and surreal price action.
I wish I had a few billions which I could use as collateral to take this private myself.
If out of sheer luck the company is not snapped up, the entire BOD should be replaced. The lack of leadership with b$$ls and no clear communication is rather shocking.
65p to 70p imo.
check out the vodafone sim only brand for example of pricing
https://www.voxi.co.uk/sim-only-plans#order-sim-form-title
I topped up this morning and just forgetting about it. Come back in a year or the new year..
Happy hols all
ah far as my personal use with sim only deals for 15gbp its almost unlimited data for social apps and in certain cases roaming too. They keep reducing the price of 5g too and from what i hear its better to be on 4g than 5g as battery life better. On the cost side the spectrum costs keep rising and people keep striking for more wages and debt is more expensive.
VOD & other telecoms are now simply utility companies with all the excitement of an ironing board. I’m afraid to say that unless some other more intelligent posters convince me otherwise this sector should be treated as such.
My last post as I’m heading away to warmer climes for the holidays so seasons greetings to one & all & as the great Dave Allen used to say ‘May your god be with you’.
How shall we condemn thee? .Let us count the ways.
Somehow the BOD have really failed here. Highly paid for desperate deal making (or lack of it) , a share price that has tanked ,a debt mountain that looks scary in the current environment. and a balance sheet where the NAV is pretty much 100% composed of intangible assets.
So where next? New top man, a night of the long knives on other executives (without anything but minimum contractual pay-offs) and an Aviva style plan to focus on the core, allocate of capital efficiently and flog everything else asap together with a clear definition of what this will mean in terms of free cash flow, debt, profitability and dividends.
Alternatively this turkey looks right for plucking and probably at some bargain basement price. Even a takeover offer tomorrow at,say, 30% above the existing SP would be impossible to evaluate imo. If you want to see why you only have to look at the recent RNS's re the sale of Egypt and the Towers stake. Both as clear as..turkey gravy.
Would a new top dog of the calibre and drive required to do the needful here really want the job? There I think lies the answer and us long suffering shareholders will have a fairly lengthy wait before an appointment and a longer one for a new clear and winning strategy to emerge and yet more time before it is implemented. I can see some upside to the SP from here but absent a takeover it is likely to be a long and bumpy road before patient holders smile again.
79p - imo
Think that is a new low. Good job i didn't try snapping up a 'bargain'...
Robleo - oh yeah, forgot about that. I was just observing price action, not ramping and I was right!!
Unfortunately I am nowhere near as confident now as I was this time last year, as the only thing I can see brewing is my tea!
Compound, i think it was all the somethings brewing here that bumped you up on the ramper list last year, we just have to hope the new CEO and board of directors can make the right decisions to reduce debt and increase profits here
Something has got to give at some point as telecoms are now as essential to everyday life as electricity! Last few years have been horrific for telecoms with increased capex and falling prices. It can't and won't continue like this - the markets will correct in some way.
I have no idea what that correction could be. Maybe existing telecoms companies will start making money again once they've completed 5G capex or maybe some will merge/get bought out/go pop so there will be less players with greater cost efficiencies and less willingness to race to the bottom on prices.
It's either that or associated industries see value in telecoms for selling their other higher margin products and either start making acquisitions, or replace the existing incumbents altogether with their own or different tech like Starlink from SpaceX. Companies like Tesla and Apple are worthless without connectivity, so it will be interesting to see what they do.
So many unknowns and possibilities. Long term VOD could be worth a lot more or go the way of Blockbuster and Kodak as the tech becomes outdated. That doesn't seem a possibility at the moment, but AI and Quantum computing is advancing at an exponential rate and I'm sure in 5 years time there will be plenty of breakthroughs and new tech that we couldn't even imagine now.
I'm only looking for a bounce from current levels and wouldn't want to be a long term holder as their future is by no means guaranteed.
Looks like UK telecom sector is now on oversold territory.. Look for big rebound anytime soon..
DYOR
Good luck...
Not sure what telecom companies can do. The data is unlimited and prices keep dropping and debt keep rising. Too competitive market.
7th according to that list Robleo - need to put a bit more effort in mate!
Still can't believe I'm 5th on the list seeing as I shorted it over the summer, although unfortunately I closed that one waaaay too early!!
Markets are a bit all over the place at the moment. So many push and pull factors.
Support has just about been holding for VOD which is quite comforting seeing as lots of other shares have got smashed in the last couple of days, although it's right on the lows at the moment and it could be a quick race down to 78/80p if it breaks.
Of course it's good to have a positive outlook on life as Daniel says, nobody wants to talk to some some miserable git who moans all the time, but also you have to get f**king real as well, nobody's going to be jumping with joy here if they are losing thousands of pounds so expect some mixed feelings , but don't buy in here unless you think this will get better in the next year or two and maybe better to do it in a few stages as I'm sure everyone must be aware this can drop further yet
gla
where are the rampers? daniel?
