They now own 12.0% OF VODAFONE'S ISSUED SHARE CAPITAL. Are these stealth incremental moves "creeping acquisition" ?????

Hope so Mikey. Just bought in today so probably my fault!
Hi Trenners. Sorry, but I meant after 2 years you would hold about £30,000 of shares at todays sp. , so would pay about £45 a year for that holding . The following year you would hold about £45,000 of shares, so pay about £68 & so on. Of course if your holding increases in value more than this, you pay even more. DODL sounds good though for you, so good luck.
Pretty crap end to the day after it started so well . Lets hope it can stay above 92p and not start moving back down again
Looks like the last half hour decline has started today
@danielh - for clarity - there are no dealing charges in DODL at all - only the 0.15% / 12 monthly charge (with a minimum of at least £1 charged assuming the above calculation is below £1).
It's brilliant! And I don't work for them! But I've had great fun with it over the last year - not very useful for quick in and out trading ....
But if you want to build a pound cost averaged stake in something over a number of days or weeks or months ... It's fabulous ....
You can even buy and sell a single share if you want .... No charge!
@danielh I think you DODL calculations are incorrect. If we assume VOD is £1 a share and we buy 300 shares a week then, after a year, we will hold 15,600 shares in DODL.
The DODL charges are 0.15% of the total holding per ANNUM - so the annual charge would be 15600 * 0.15% so £23.40 per annum - so about £2 a month.
However, the minimum monthly charge on DODL is £1 so, in the early months of ownership we would be charged £1 rather than the 0.15% / 12.
So the charges aren't too bad at all and work well with the MF article as I suggested before.
Trenners
Trenners. Thanks for replying, not sure the 3pm would work very well for some, but good luck mate.
Trencherpilot. Thanks for that info. So the the 300 shares a week would cost about £195 a year, 12 x 9.99 plus £75. So about 2 months of divi's. Glad you have saved money though, sounds like you trade often, good luck.
@danielh DODL is fabulous if you have a small holding and would work really well with the MF article.
Its not suitable for day trading really because you can only deal at 3pm each day.
Also not suitable for very large investments.
But to dabble with small investments - perhaps adding weekly or even daily - it's quite good.
Freetrade, 3 different price settings. I pay 9.99 a month for GIA, ISA and a SIPP. just pay stamp duty, no charges for trading. Except FX on US stocks. Used to be with II, saved me a fortune
Trenners. Thanks for that info. The problem with the article it did not explain. I, for example would have to pay £300 a year just to hold my vod shares with DODL, instead of paying nothing as with my broker & more if the sp goes up. DODL sounds ok though if you have a small holding, or day trade. Even if you buy 300 vod shares per week for 2 years, & the share price doesn't go up, you will be paying about £45 a year just to hold the shares, more of course if the share price rises & more every year as your holding increases. Always count your costs. Cheers & good luck.
It makes sense if you use DODL - like I do - as it is FREE to buy and sell - no dealing charges at all (only stamp duty).
OK - there is a minimum monthly charge of either £1/month or 0.15%/annum of shares held - but it does give you the flexibility to buy and sell daily if you want.
I've been using them since launch, last April, and I've got a. ISA and Pension and General Investment account with them and, funnily enough, I've been thinking of buying some Vodafone shares again recently (hence why I'm looking at this board).
Anyhow - with DODL the article isn't total nonsense!
lokomo. Thanks for that info. However, it doesn't say how much the sale was for, which I believe was the original question. Let's hope it is for more than the $900 million vod paid for it 15 years ago?
I believe you Dan, i don't think anyone takes the fool serious lol, come to think of it I remember now it was aj bell that he used, but as you say the more trades you make the more profit for the brokers
Go to Vodaphone Ghana on the net
Hi rob. £1.02 would be good in the short term..... H.L.'s minimum charge is 5.95 per deal if you deal 20 times a month, & they charge extra to hold shares in an I.S.A.. I pay a flat 9.95 per deal, however many times I deal, plus no I.S.A. charge with London south east. Most low cost brokers, charge monthly or yearly fees on top. I can assure you rob, that motley fool article, is complete nonsense, as most of them are. Cheers mate.
Hi Dan, I don't remember the exact amount, but i know CSDI for one had a similar account set up with hl, with very low dealing charges, some people like the drip feeding way of buying, but as you say those charges can mount up, not something i would do personally my charges would be too high for one thing, i prefer to put a few thousand in when a good opportunity comes up, looking better here now mate it's not going to go up in a straight line I'm sure but if we can see some improvements each week that will do for me
best of luck and hope i can get my £1.02 fairly soon
Hello rob. I am not aware of a £3 a trade I.S.A. with no other charges account but perhaps you could let me know? Even at £3 a trade, it would be £156 + £75 stamp. (over 2 months income). So not very good. It was a motley fool article by the way, so nothing new there.
Dan surely it depends on what type of account you are using, a regular dealing account can be around £3 a trade and the tax will work out the same, but correct me if I'm wrong guys
Anybody with any intelligence can see what a load of rubbish that article is. It just doesn't add up. How much dealing charges would you pay on 52 deals of £300 each, plus all the other flaws in the article. Who writes this nonsense. I am very positive about vod shares, but stupid articles like this one don't help.
According to this article , VOD paid $900m for its stake. No info on the telecel price I can see
https://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/NCA-grants-conditional-approval-for-sale-of-Vodafone-Ghana-to-Telecel-Group-1696199
where is that figure from? thanks
My understanding is it is worth around £800 million pounds of which Vodaphone owns 70% and the Ghana Goverment owns the other 30%.
how much is ghana worth?
