Just seen this myself, surprised the SP hasn't really been affected by it
Mikey, bound to happen if you put all your ski slopes in one basket
Here we go again - usual afternoon drop back down into the red
UK broadcaster ITN is employing a public 5G Standalone network to power its coverage of King Charles’s Coronation this weekend.
ITN is working with Vodafone on the project, which will be the first time in the UK a public 5G Standalone (5G SA) network is used for a broadcast.
Vodafone has worked with ITN to dedicate a slice of Vodafone’s public 5G SA network for the broadcast of the Coronation – the first time any UK telco has provided a slice of its public 5G SA network for a major event broadcast.

' For once are we going to do well after results'
Crikey Mikey, steady on. A basket of ski slopes?
Seems we are in a holding pattern until results on 16th - lots of ski slopes going on when it trys to move up. For once are we going to do well after results .
Is anyone actually making any money from the stock market anymore, or is it just myself that's picked all the wrong shares?
just seems to be one thing after another pushing everything backwards
Let's hope Vodafone can pull something good out of the hat, need something good to happen for a change
The remedies will get negotiated/ litigated over the following 5 years or so and gives them all some cost orientation. But then, thats why 3 are threatening to exit the market. They cant make a return after having negotiated mbnl and the rural network...
I meant the coming Monday. Not last Monday. We will be having a Bank holiday but the USA is open. Trouble with regional banks. Always look waaaaay up the road, not what is just in front of you. Danny boy crowing has jinxed everything I'm afraid...
Under normal circumstances I would have expected this to be definitely blocked by the regulators, but some of the reports about Three struggling and the Government pulling strings behind the scenes makes me wonder. I would guess EE and VMO2 will have to thrown some sweeteners to make this palatable to them. Without the other two big providers being onboard, it'll likely go to court and probably be blocked through litigation.
Lol, EE and Three jointly own Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL). No doubt that'll be complicated to unwind, assuming they bother to.
This long-awaited development seems finally upon us and there are a couple of points worth making. First I expect that the parties have been in touch with UK authorities and have tacit agreement that the deal will be approved, there may be conditions but essentially it will IMV, be approved in its current form.
Second an examination of VOD's last annual accounts for FY 22 show that its international revenues were : Germany 30%(of total revenues) margin43%, UK 13% margin21%, Italy11%, margin33%, Spain10%, margin23%.......(sorry for the formatting- I have tried formatting tables on this site before and they come out unintelligible)
However, I hope it is clear that VOD make decent margins in Germany and Italy and much less so in the UK and Spain.......guess why they are planning to rationalise the UK market to one less player!!!
'suspect the UK merger wont include all of Vodafone's UK assets'
Yes. Makes me think Darren Purkis is their consumer mobile retail prodigy so suspect not everything in 3 would come across either eg O2 Vod 3 share rural network. Maybe the rural network remains sepparate to cover the 4 nations/ not spots etc or O2 will need untangling. Some of this can be commercial arrangements as well
PFen, any chance you could proof read your rants before posting, I had to decipher it into English and it took me 3 or 4 readings, ta.
Unfortunately the markets don't lie and the long term direction of this doomed company seemed sealed unless they can ditch what they have and bring in talent who can turn this around they have basically put the fix in with the chickens with thei appointment and cant attract talent as the future is so uncertain.
"It will not be big gainer for the sp at least initially. Assets and some debt will come off the balance sheet, then a smaller share of the uk market will go back on. It will shrink the company, not expand it."
Much will depend on what's included in the merger. For example Vodafone took over Cable & Wireless Worldwide 10 years ago and have since carved out some of the assets and moved them into group. I suspect things like submarine Cables and Earth Station facilities will remain with Vodafone Group and not included in this merger. I suspect the UK merger wont include all of Vodafone's UK assets.
It will not be big gainer for the sp at least initially. Assets and some debt will come off the balance sheet, then a smaller share of the uk market will go back on. It will shrink the company, not expand it.
The market will want to see if it leads to increased earnings in uk before assigning more value to it.
Just as with towers it won’t unlock any value. Just gets vod out of some essential cap ex by getting 3 to do 49% of it.
JV’s also have a habit of falling apart, so city will be sceptical at first.
PFEN,
E&, Liberty Global and Niel wouldnt agree with you and increased to over 20% of the shares.
They have a very good track record of this and only this. Big waiting game for the markets to have any confidence in vodafone.
if the network savings are offset by the commitment to 5G investment to get it over the line, and 3 said its piece was £5Bn.
So £5Bn incremental increase in MV....?
Wonder what value the merger brings to the table in terms of incremental market cap. Haven’t got a clue
It will be true one day…..this tie up has been talked about for a long time….
VOD and 3 are both struggling in the UK due to previous regulatory decisions……they cant count on regulatory approval and there will be a lot of anti-Chinese rhetoric from some politicians even though such a deal should reduce CKHH influence. Hopefully they have an outline agreement with the regulator that they can agree to in the inevitable CMA investigation.
