Apologies meant to say £34m of vod was traded
Lse2000
Where is your proof on the shorting? There is literally no real money driving/pushing the share down. Yesterday's volume was ca 50m shares--> ca £63m traded. That's like 4 days worth of gross interest for Bezos.
Anybody and I mean anybody thinking to short this stock is a lunatic. You could turn around and say that one could have made 30% in less than year by shorting vod, which is true, but it would have been a trading decision purely based on luck. Fundamentally speaking, this should be traded above 160. No hedge fund worth their salt would short this stock based on the current information. Pure madness and imprudence to short.
FYI This is the latest dashboard of most shorted stock in Europe. Where is telco in here? https://whalewisdom.com/short_position
Can I have 67.6p for next week please
Who is interested on this! Share price is on historic low .. People have lost and losing money. Agressive computerised algorithm based shorters are under control. Any good news soon turned into bad news ...any rise is shorted heavily. Recent downgrade (Exane) was from the guy who shorted Vodafone in the past... When they short, they will downgrade the share. All pure manipulation here..
Share price may rise again once these people enjoy their huge profit by closing their short positions..
Jax recently bought into vod at 60p. Read his history. Welcome aboard Jax.
Looked at ways vod is trying to improve on the energy hungry stations. Below some interesting articles.
[1] Vodafone total energy cost
https://www.lightreading.com/sustainability/vodafone-s-new-energy-deal-won-t-make-it-much-greener
[2] Origination of lion's share of energy cost
https://www.orange-business.com/en/blogs/greening-telecoms-network
[3] UK energy cost
https://www.telecomtv.com/content/digital-platforms-services/vodafone-uk-targets-zero-traffic-zero-watt-future-for-networks-49166/
[4] Energy cost improvements in Germany
https://www.ericsson.com/en/press-releases/3/2023/new-energy-saving-technology-used-for-the-first-time-in-the-german-5g-network#:~:text=The%20new%20energy%2Dsaving%20radio,for%20today's%20large%2Dscale%20rollout.
It looks rather feasible to increase the free cashflow by ca €294m in the near future. This figure is based on the average energy savings of 35% [4] applied to 5g stations only, which appear to account for 70% [2]of the total consumption in the telcos. Vod total energy spend appears to be €1.2bn/year [1]
Vod is already hard at work leveraging big data and AI to optimise the entire network and rather advanced in their digital transformation strategy. I expect all the above converging in a year or two to deliver the synergies that have been set out on the energy consumption side.
Anybody with industry insights on the station energy efficiency metric , please do share your thoughts.
Happy to hold this for the long term but glad I’m not in big as I can see it treading water. But want to be in for the inevitable medium term rise!
Jax the reason I recently topped up £20k in VOD is because of all your negative comments and the fact you did the same with RR last year:

There’s a war don’t you know27 Apr 2022 17:37
RR will suffer because of it.
Look at where RR is now, your doom and gloom messaging could be seen as an omen foretelling Vodafone will double or treble in price in the next year or two.
Tars stop spouting lines after lines
Vod goes down fact
Do not forget the serious negatives here, I’ll remind you in order of importance:
Germany
Debt
MDV
That’s in reverse order by the way ha ha
On 24th December 1999 the BT shares reached the heady heights of £9.93. Today it's £1.32 a decline of 86.7%.
On 3rd March 2000 the Vodafone topped out at £4.57. Today it's languishing at £0.69 a decline of 86.2% or to put it another way, since it's peak the share price has halved, then halved again, and now almost halved yet again.
“The only true test of whether a stock is “cheap” or “high” is not its current price in relation to some former price, but whether the company's fundamentals are significantly more or less favourable than the current financial-community appraisal of that stock.”
Philip A. Fisher
"Sometimes it’s always darkest before the dawn, but then again, sometimes it’s always darkest before pitch black". - Peter Lynch
I rather like the Woody Allen definition of a stockbroker as a person who invests other people's money until it's all gone.
My trading strategy is a take on Warren Buffet's saying: "“The best thing is when a great company gets into temporary trouble. We want to buy them when they’re on the operating table.”.
I bought my first share in 1983 and over the years I have bought shares in 69 companies and had a few outstanding failures and some stratospheric successes adopting this strategy together with the caveat that a company experiencing troubles could be taken over after a bidding war. Stratospheric successes have been Invensys, Shire, Barclays, Lloyds and of late Rolls Royce. Terrible failures have been Marconi, Ferranti, Cable & Wireless, RBS and sadly Vodafone. One of the reasons I bought Vodafone was their purchase of Cable & Wireless and thinking telecoms was the future but hey-ho. Thankfully my successes have just about outweighed my abysmal failures which lost me over 700k on just 5 companies. I enjoy investing and tend to be optimistic. When I started investing I used to think a FTSE 100 company wouldn't go bust and a share price in the doldrums would eventually recover until Ferranti and Marconi taught me an extremely painful lesson, in Marconi's case a loss of over 200k. So it's possible that Vodafone will go bust but equally it may double in price in the coming months. Clearly share holders like me who bought in at a much higher price than today's closing price are sitting on large paper losses. I would be happy if Vodafone climbed back to the price it was last Christmas by next May. But of late every time I look up the Vodafone share price I am reminded of the quote from Joseph Heller "Things can only get better, unless they get worse." I admire those investors who are able to close out on a share that is losing them money. I have never been able to do this and that is one of my failures as an investor.
Anyway my prediction for next week is yet again 83.14 as I am an optimist and enjoy a minced π
Overseas fleccy
How’s that £5k divi comparable…..
I’d like to realise your strategy as a firm investment proposition but how many shares could you have bought at today’s prices including dividends?
A ton more I expect
One more piece of bad news and this will be in the 50s
You having that Avi?
I suspect any reputable outsider would’ve seen VODs dire business model and got their barge pole out
MDV is not reputable and wears VODs purpose made rose tinted glasses, plus does not give one jot about the business as long as her personal gravy train cash cow continues. She’s made millions without actually being successful.
Plenty of em about unfortunately- she’d fit in well as a politician
I think it is too early to say she is a disaster, but I would have preferred and outsider to have taken the reins but clearly no one was up for the challenge !
Many thanks. I had a feeling 69.69 would bring me the sweet smell of success. A great competition, once again many thanks for organising.

Jax05, that's very true, i have to admit though i would be even happier if this share wasn't doing some damage to my pension pot, but the number one rule always has to be, don't invest anymore than you can afford to lose on any single share, and remember nothing anyone says on here will make the slightest bit of difference, so not much point in getting upset about it

i’ll say this again and keep repeating it mdv has to go and not to be replaced by someone who has contributed to this mess over the years.
she’s the diane abbott of the telecoms sector
Yes robleo, when you are holding VOD shares. You got to have some entertainers here to soothe your pain, lol 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe the only hope here is for a low ball takeover offer. I'd take 90P just to get out even. One thing's for sure though, Margherita is a disaster!
AS I said earlier, Read was an idiot to let the company get so debt ridden by anyones standards. The Issa brothers are purposely doing this with Asda and Morrisons to suit their own un-ethical ends !
Theirs no shortage of entertainment on this board sidi mate, This is definitely not a board for snowflakes or those who are easily offended, if you don't laugh you will want to cry
Not even close to 70p .. LOL..
this dog did not even go up to see this much fall..
Look like we are now into permanent 60's..
Before nick read this was at range from 100 to 80...
With MDV 80 to 60..
