expatbrat, for someone who is so convinced that VLS is doomed, you sure are committed to this chat group. Deep down you love VLS don't you :). Why else would you stay here, come on is so obvious!
I think "whatever shall we do when the world runs out of garbage?" is a problem we can leave for another day.
I can't quite work out where the feedstock for those those levels of biofuel will possibly come from. I'm assuming that assumptions will be made that Power-to-X will be feasible in the longer term
I've just realised I'm doing that annoying engaging with negative people thing. I'm just gonna block instead and save your time
You make a fair point. I mean....I wouldn't want to fund anyone unless the project was built and up and running
Ok. The FT tech is tried and tested. In fact Its currently in service around the globe.
Unfortunately, the waste to fuel process is far from tested by VLS and probably remain a CGI image for the foreseeable future.
By 'tried and tested' I meant conventional Fischer-Tropsch. By cutting-edge advances I meant microchannel FT, which is what VLS is concentrating on.
Can you advise what is ‘tried and tested’ as far as waste to jet fuel, as VLS is concerned?
When you think of it as four Immingham-sized plants completed and operational in the UK by 2030, and another four added every year you can begin to see the scope of what they're planning.
I think this is where Velocys' innovative patents give it the edge. Tried and tested is good, but companies with cutting-edge advances have the potential to shape an industry.
The figures are huge, if you consider the high end finishing point of 75% by 2050, the % blend effectively has to uptick by 3% every single year from 2025, it's a market that will become absolutely enormous very quickly
They're some impressive figures when you consider the country consumes 15bn litres of jet fuel in a normal year.
Their 'low ambition' projections see the UK replacing 2.8% of that (i.e. 420m litres) with SAF by 2030, and almost twice as much by 2035. Their optimistic target is over three times that, with the best-case being 10% by 2030 and 20% by 2035. So it looks like things are going to start moving quickly now. The government actually appears to have spotted the potential this offers.
Surprised nobody is talking about this, huge news for the SAF market in the UK if its passed. Starting at 0.5% in 2025 (when Immingham is due to come online) and ramping up from there potentially maxing out at 75% (!!!) by 2050.
Seems it will happen, VLS very possibly right at the forefront being one of the very limited companies with proven commercial scale tech. See how the Green Fuels, Green Skies competition winners shape up in the next few weeks (VLS already shortlisted) but truly believe the remainder of 2021 could be huge
