A belated reply. You're right that you actually couldn't sell 6 shares - if you could it would be giving money away.
I first bought VAL in 2011 and the SP was around 0.6p. My original holding of 300000 has been consolidated twice to 19 shares - and the fraction of 0.2 lost. In the same way 100000 (?) bought at 0.745p (say) would now be only 6 shares.
great advice from all concerned, than you for comments and setting me straight, i'll go from there and re-invest this morning from afresh, kind regards.
mathsprof, there are 2 things here:
1) If do8erman currently has 6 shares, he/she cannot even sell at lost because the trading platform taking their fee from the money they sold the shares for you, so the value of the shares is not enough to pay for the fee so they won't let you sell. do8erman does not have a choice here, either top up or just leave it there.
2) I was a bit confused, reading the post I thought do8erman initial bought 6 shares at the value of 12424.6667p each from 12-5 years ago, hence, it was my response from that understanding. But I started to follow VAL at least 10-11 years ago I am pretty sure it was in the range of 40-70p a share. So I am not convinced 93750 shares was bought at the time without remember it.
Your 6 shares are now worth £1.20 and as pointed out could only be sold at a loss. So, I suggest, mentally write off your £743.80, keep the 6 shares and buy some more.
For the record, you previously held at least 93750 shares, which have been consolidated twice.
Classic low volume price movement day. I topped up again later in the afternoon. Love a sale.
Oh great another one that makes little sense but loves the sound of his own voice. Yawn.
For a starter, you cannot even sell your initial 6 shares because the trading fee would be well over the value of your shares, so your 6 shares now probably worth less than 0.1p...hihihi, this val for you. In reality, you probably now own zero share as explained below:
You need to calculate like this, for example you initial bought 125 shares (doesn't matter how much it costed you, it could £100 per share or £1000 per share), for the sake of discussion Val decided to do share consolidation and each new share would equal to 125 old shares, so after the consolidation you would only OWN 1 share, full stop. Therefore, your case is very interesting because VAL has done a few share consolidations and most of them they converted 1 new share = 125 old shares, so you now own a lot lot lot of less than 1 share for sure, so probably nothing left.
I hope you understand why VAL has done few consolidations, but just in case you don't then the main reason for it is because it lost too much in value and almost to the minimum trading value of 0.10 (I guess), they cannot afford to let its value lower than that so they had to consolidate the shares.
Everything is new for you now.
hi thanks for advice, when you say average down isnt that what i'd be doing by buying more on the original holding? would it be better to buy more then and say invest in 10000, which i think would be my limit. so 10,006 total and if my maths are right, approx £2000 + the original £745... so my average then would be 27p or thereabouts - 2745/10006, which i'd imagine would be achievable soon enough and it would get me back into profit and recover my original stake i thought i'd never see again?
Buy fresh, keep hold of the 6, and average down to a very achievable level. You'll feel better in the knowledge that charlatans no longer dilute this share like a bottle of vimto. Good luck, but you won't need it.
hi, i held a small amount of val shares about 12-15 years ago, they did nothing and diluted the company and i forgot about them/wrote them off. but i like where they are now and am thinking of investing again. the old shares are in my halifax account and i hold 6 at something daft like £124 each, as below.. can someone far smarter than me let me know what happens if i were to buy 5000 shares tomorrow at £1000 or thereabouts. . would i then own 5006 shares and it would be my initial stake of £745 added to the £1000 hence 1745/5006 and my new average would be 0.348p.. if i have that right, then i guess it would be better to right off the £745 and sell the initial holding at close to 0 and just purchase again at 20p? any advice or help please, i cant get my head around it for sure...
VAL - 6 - 12424.6667p - £745.48 *19.80p £1.19 £-744.29 -99.84%
