Obvious that some on here do not understand sarcasm. Nice picture on @WealdOilers twitter account of clean up tool going in yet showing signs of mud. Or is it oil. Or is it dope.
Not one of you could remember that the EWT started with a crane and not a workup rig.
Makes me wonder about how many LTH's there really are when you look back at their posting and dates of joining, especially the previously banned ones.
Not been following Twitter that closely but It’s likely they drilled the horizontal section with oil based mud. Looking at that pipe.
Dope no way too much of it; damages formations too.
those look like made up joints and the stuff on them is probably 'dope'. It's used to lubricate and seal the joints and applied liberally - hence it's mostly around the joints.
Significant oil in the well wouldn't be good - that would mean the mud weight was too low.
Hey, Zoom. Noted your comment re: barium mud. If this mud is used to prevent the inward ( by natural forces) and upward flow (by ESP) of oil until ready, what method is used to first remove the mud? I am slowly learning a little more about these operations and would like to add this to my understanding of the process. Thanks.
It does look like oil but I guess that isn't surprising. If they were using Bentonite as a base of the drilling mud it would be a much lighter colour.
This is what the the output of an oil well looks like when it's being drilled.

Remember that although occasionally HHDL have mentioned some natural flow from the well almost all the oil has been produced using a pump.
There is nothing in the latest RNS that suggests they expect natural flow and a lot about installing a pump.
I doubt we'll see any flow until the pump is working
Oakleak. We are using Barium mud which is heavier than salt water, and this compound will hold the well bore in place until the slotted liner is put in. IMO.
GLA.
Black mud then:)
I shall speculate it is probably mud. It doesn't have that oil sheen to them.
Thanks Oakleaf as Pboo's picture clearly shows the presence of the oil after the drill pipes have been drawn all the way out of the well up to 5000ft
Ibug
All that means to me is that the EWT will definitely not commence this week. Beyond that you’re speculating.
Cheers

Wizard I'm no expert but ukog may fill the well bore with salt water. The weight of this solution will keep the oil in the formation. Once they start to displace the brine out of the well, the oil should flow.
Why not think back to last July when the workover rig turned up with all the well head equipment. PW Well testing and Moorhead on site stimulating HH-1 and cleaning it up, putting the pump on etc. Remember the sand/earth filter going in and the down hole part of the pump? Remember how long it took? They didn't say "expected to commence in the coming weeks" in the RNS for no reason.
This may sound like a silly question but;
Is oil flowing into the well boar at this present time while the liner is being inserted or what will make the oil flow?
Okay, so they just put the slotted liner in, remove the rig, stick on the bop and turn it on. Should be flowing black gold by Friday then :-)
Sidetrack liner had been cemented in before they drilled the horizontal. No cement need for slotted liner.
"Production borehole drilled through the reservoir and then lined with a drilled (or slotted) uncemented liner;"
PCS, just asking. Your 2.09 post. Is this the latest way to do things, ie. no acid wash. So could such a method be used at BB. in the future? As I believe one of the problems there was wrong type of cement.
I'm no expert either, just a very enthusiastic watcher.
Can't believe we can still top up at this price considering we are now only days away from game changing flow news.
News that UKOG can deliver high volume production oil wells on mainland UK.
They have the licences for many many more. GLA
Is it not the case that the vertical part of the well would have had its cement completion and tested before the horizontal section begun.
Don't they need to at least cement fix the vertical section?
Brilliant speedy progress. We'll completion this week. Watch for cement trucks next. Flow results rolling in thereafter.
