Tom :-)))
Hi tom daily mail and spectator ,I used that ratio as a point that in my opinion we won’t have a second spike as were more aware who the vulnerable ones are,but who knows when you see the beaches yesterday! At work now Gotta get a mix on nice rise this morning, atb
Cdl1 hi, maybe it was not a stupid thing to say and I apologist for that word however please advise where you seen " it’s gone from 1-40 to 1-1000 chance of catching it," ?????? that is what I was referring as IMO a silly thing to say unless there is evidence to say this is the case and I doubt that very much indeed. Where have you got those figures from ???????
The thing is ANYONE can catch it and its about keeping oneself safe that counts and staying away from carriers or surfaces that carry the virus is the ONLY way not to catch it. Apart from self isolation / lock down how does one totally protect themselves as there is NO protection yet.
You say that 80,000 people have died from flu in the past 5 years!!!!! Where did you get that from ???? (40,000 deaths from flu "TWICE" in the last five years no lock down (40k *2 = 80k )
Just curious to your facts stated here ?
Hi owls according to cancer UK 200.000 people a weekacross UK not being screened for breast bowl and cervical cancer due to a pause in screening,we need to get these back up and running ASAP!
This hopeless government has been playing catch up from day one and now has very little credibility.
The approach has been one dimensional and will probably result in more unrelated deaths due to lack of cancer treatment and diagnosis etc as well as the impact of the impending recession.
Whilst we are all sympathetic to the loved ones of those who have died the majority of them would probably have died in the relatively near future anyway due to their age and underlying health conditions.
I have thought about this problem for a while and while none of us are experts in this field, we are far from stupid.
I believe a lot of facts have been held back from us and I think they thought it was going to be a lot worse!
I look at it like this if one or two countries over react then it’s an overreaction.
If the whole world does it then it’s got to be serious.
Everything could of been done better, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Also the fact they are bribing people to stay at home and not work for six months, they must of been scared of how bad it could of been, or how bad it could still be!
We won’t know because we have lack of information.
So in these we must trust and use our best judgment to suit our situation.
Good luck and keep well:)))
As you say in your opinion!
CDL1 hi, With all due respect !!!!!!! " I think it’s gone from 1-40 to 1-1000 chance of catching it,"
You tell that to the families and friends, brothers and Sisters who have been effected and died in that 1-1000 and its is STILL going on ???
What a stupid thing to say IMO.
Hi bamps yes we certainly couldn’t have another lockdown,Ithink it’s gone from 1-40 to 1-1000 chance of catching it,but we need to get the economy going again ,as I say if your at risk you do all you can to protect yourself, but I’m afraid the 2 metre rule will have to come down as a lot of business’s will go bust as no chance of starting up again.as you say testing is the key.atb.
Hi Cd1
If there were 40,000 deaths from flu with no lockdown last year, that sums up how bad this virus has been with 40,000 deaths with a lockdown in under 3 months.
Someone mentioned about Sweden you can't really compare our 2 societies. They have a much smaller population and vastly spread out and their ethnic mix is a lot less than ours.
Germany brought forward testing regimes after the Sars epidemic which is where we failed badly mainly due to most epidemics not reaching us before they dissipate.
Our big pharma companies are mainly drug orientated whereas the German companies centered around testing.
The last thing the country needs is a second wave, it could be worse mentally and economically
I expect it to get worse at the GP. There are currently a number of projects looking at implementing ai screening in healthcare. Before long will be an ai screen, followed by phone with GP and only then, if permitted, a face to face.
GP numbers already low and application rates are dropping and far more money to be had locuming or doing private GP appointments. Even the 1k a day locum rates isn't enough to tempt more people in, shows how bad it is.
Well said RC.
I think the 500k was assuming all population infected and NHS overwhelmed, might be wrong though. At current fatalities and taking the higher estimate of number infected so far of 1 in 8 or on 1 in 7 and 60% survival once in ITU then the 500k looks fairly accurate in worst case scenario.
I do think a more targeted lockdown approach would have more sense though. There should be more screening programmes for lots of diseases. One good thing to come from this is that screening for a number of infectious diseases should improve.
I think the worse thing they can do is double down on construction without diluting housing density, 15 dwellings per acre is obscene, and enforcing more infrastructure spending and green initiatives such as tree planting and capping margins at the builders. Bad for shareholders but will have many society benefits
Hi All
I am not worried about my job situation because!
A, I have no mortgage or debt
B, they can’t and won’t let the construction side of this country go under, they will need it to help rebuild the economy.
C, I am old school and always put a bit away for a rainy day.
The ones I feel sorry for (a bit) is the young ones , mortgage to the hilt , car on tick , living on the credit card until the monthly pay comes in ! Oh I forgot a Hugo boss wallet (£350) worth, with nothing in it, image you see .
They haven’t seen hard times or seen the pain of 15,16,20% mortgage rates and your house going down 1,2,3k a week.
This is what’s going to hurt.
But from the fire comes the Phoenix
Good luck this week:)))
They went over the top with 500,000deaths it was quickly revised to 250,000 still over the top we’ve had40,000 deaths from flu twice in the last five years no lock down then,99.9% people will show no symptoms and won’t know they’ve had it,all deaths are sad as hard as it would have been it should have been the vulnerable isolating, most have been elderly how many young will die from cancer now screening has been paused, will stop there as feeling all negative!
The NHS funding is ok from a day to day cost perspective, it is severely underfunded from a capital expenditure perspective, relative to its peers. There is a nurse and doctor staffing issue but until conditions and pay improve this will just get worse.
The acute demand on the NHS, without lockdown, could have been catastrophic, mass suffering with patients unable to obtain even palliative care. Not to mention the PTSD to medical staff which would damage long term staffing.
The government needs to focus on training schemes for healthcare, scientists and engineers. Half brained schemes to prop the housing market and enrich your pals is easier though and what they'll do
Hi Nige
My view on it is without a lockdown the scientists predicted 500,000 fatalities, no one would want that on their plate.
Air travel spread this around far too quickly, too many exotic holidays in far flung places. The virus couldn't die out naturally, then when it got here it spread rapidly through our crowded transport system and our unnatural way of living.
We've lost too many NHS staff already I dread to think how many would have been lost without a lockdown.
Perhaps new Planning guide lines are needed to house less people per acre with larger open spaces
Only my view
ATB:))
Hi Cdl1
Probably get into trouble for this post But
How many lives have been saved by lockdown compared to the misery and deaths it has created. The point is the damage has already been done - a recession is almost bound to follow, creating more trouble (besides Brexit).
About the only thing lockdown achieved was preventing the total collapse of the NHS, but that is entirely due to lack of Govt funding. How much did the Nightingale hospitals cost and how many people treated in them?
We have a shortage of Doctors, Nurses and Hospital Beds (always have since NHS introduced), but Wards in Hospitals are closed cos of the shortage.
Future Sociologists will have great fun working this out.
Sorry for my negativity and BoL
Hi Ben I’ve been lucky and carried on working since being laid off Wilson’s site in March, my mates a brickie at persimmon he’s been back a few weeks it looks like end of June before I go back, just building a house for a mate meanwhile, does my head head in all this negativity we’ve got to give things a chance to get moving again!

Hi Ben
Hope you are Ok
Rightmove have recorded record 'hits' on their website.
Government are eager for immediate start to their infrastructure plans and looking for shovel ready projects
ATB :))
Oh yes forgot, sent out a half dozen emails and done a couple of calls about work. Got a couple of replies back, looks okay out there, both where offers on construction sites. Don’t think house builders are back properly yet!
Next couple weeks will be interesting.
Good luck All
