Surely the ‘ducks’ all lined up nicely for the supermarkets and particularly TSCO. So much cash is being spent in them at the moment. Travel restrictions, hot weather and of course the home nations European Football. Margins key too.
One off costs for C19 firmly in the past but additional staff costs could be a factor.
My view is that the ‘market’ is not always rational and wider market influences may also be a factor but I cannot see any surprises coming to those invested here.
Freedomfighter..
A few big spenders agree with you today ..
Yes and hope this ship finally leaves the Dock... Its been moored here for a while now.
Expecting good results and news on how tesco going forward can be an Internet success
Is everyone expecting good results on Friday?
I won't describe the sunburn, it is yukky. Don't trust weather forecasts, cloudy with sunny periods they said. It was like being in an air fryer. Mind you, when the lasses had gone ahead, the lads made pretty yellow patterns in the snow :-)
Only in Scotland
Hi Chelwood
Eight hours in the blazing sun. Started off with a tender knee (injured a couple of weeks ago) finished with an extremely painful one. Got there eventually, 12 miles with a lot of scrambling over large rocks in 60+ mph gusts.
2 x 30m trade at 0916 today. Recorded as a sell (228.6p) but reported late so possibly a buy. I know the DRIP was today so not sure of origin. What I do know is that the sp was up all day and did not close with it's usual weakness.
Swithered over selling today but hope it's got a bit in it leading up to next Friday's results ..
Having played numerous golf courses in Scotland and remembering the aching limbs i salute all those who have completed those walks
Thanks Chelwood, in recent years we hav e done Mayar and Dreish, Nevis, Vorlich, the Lairig Ghru (18 miles), Jock's Road (28 miles), Rob Roy Way (26 miles) and Dundee Kilt Walk (25 miles). I have seen colleagues in tears and exhausted but still they made it there and back safely.
Hats off Rosewall.I will contribute, please others join me.
Staycations, well a day out anyway, I am off to Ballater tomorrow with a team of boys and girls (all less than half my age) for a walk in aid of the Tesco Charity Partnership (for Diabetes UK, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK). The team, wh o are mainly newbies to hillwalking, are going to tackle the Meikle Pap and Lochnagar in the Cairngorm mountains. I have done it before and the route we will take is a bit of a pig :-) .
Tesco and their staff raise many millions of pounds for charity every year. If anyone would like to help , just go to justgiving . com /fundraising/hassanteam (leaving out the spaces in the link). I will get pictures put up next week. It will be a toughie for me as i took a tumble a week ago and the leg is still a bit sore but, it will be worth it.
Leas,good afternoon.
Agree. The only way is up.Just spoke to wife who is on a break at the Hatfield extra. She said it is absolutely heaving instore.
I think this share price is in a false position and likely will go back in the £2.50 region when the next results are in.
Good weekend everybody
barchid
Totally agree. Particularly with Booker.
I’m maxed out with 2 ISAs so that is why I won’t be adding. Tesco Bank and one off costs for Covid has been a drag in the sp, not to mention the special dividend so much more positives now than negatives.
Leas
You make a good point re the SP determining investors views on this stock but I am actually quite hopeful that their performance will be better than some of the analysts are talking, reason being their wholesale arm, Booker, is likely to benefit from the re-opening of hospitality venues which is only just starting, their online presence is better than any competitor & my supposition is that trade is generally headed in that direction going forward, even if it might not be wonderfully profitable right now. There is also the unwinding of lockdown which can surely only tempt more people to spend so Tesco should benefit from that scenario. I suppose you could sum up my strategy by saying that I prefer travelling to arriving ?
Nevertheless if I am wrong I do not see much downside in the stock with a sturdy dividend behind it, time alone, however, will tell if I am correct.
barchid
Good luck with your additional investment. I have elected to add more shares through the dividend scheme but wont be adding any more of my Capital. As Rosewall points out it will be numbers later in the month that will be interesting. Many investors are making judgements based on the sp rather than the company performance.
These algo trades are dictating the direction but if performance was so poor then why have them. I will be interested to see if they allow the sp to close above the 230 today.
I would hope that it is a general uplift in sales rather than ASDA gaining market share. We wont know until the numbers come out.
Leas
A good point, no one seems to be accounting for that, I added a few more today to my holding as I had 2 divis in from other stocks which had moved up too far to tempt me to reinvest back into them, TSCO seemed a better bet.
Asda have reported a sales surge in the last quarter with increased sales. From memory on the last trading update in winter they were losing ground to the other big 3. Bodes well for the 18th June.
Well it has moved downwards ?
Seems the special dividend and share consolidation worked wonders for the share price. Doesn't seem to have moved much in the last year or so.
Thanks Chelwood
The newsfeed today pretty much stated the same :)
Leas, the wife knows a few people as she has worked for the company,22years and she has heard nothing negative as yet
Chelwood
Good afternoon. Think it’s Q1 update on the 18th of this month. Will be interested in the numbers.
