Ex-divi on Thursday

I tend to agree with your statement. That is not to say that the others are weak, they all have their strong points. As a defensive stock I don't think that there are many out there that are better. I have written to a Director about the UFC's (I am concerned that they are now delayed and underspec'd) but have yet to receive an answer.
Added this a.m.
@Rosewall, I think it's best to be holding TSCO shares right now. No one is sure of when the ex-divi date is for the special dividend. Better to be in rather than out. Also, long term - TSCO is looking like the strongest UK supermarket and should make good gains.
Also, assuming that the deal is authorised by the regulators and that the amount raised is not varied as a result of global economics and that the GM approves TSCO share consolidation, I am still none the wiser whether the special dividend applies to pre or post TSCO share consolidation. I will read the document for the third time sometime this week. I can't remember seeing anything that indicates that the ex dividend date for the special dividend is the same or different as the ordinary dividend. Again, something I will look out for when I reread the document.
i think no matter what the Special Divi could be, it's the date to be "in" that is to be speculated....
Is it true special divi could be like 50p, I’d be delighted with that
The share goes ex dividend on 21/5/20 so if you buy before that date which is next Thursday you should be eligible for the 6.5pence per share final dividend but no doubt the SP will fall by roughly the same amount on that day. The special dividend date and amount awaits to be declared.
On Thursday, the GM agreed for the sale to go ahead. There are still a number of hurdles to overcome including the regulators in both countries. Whether, as a result of economic conditions it goes ahead, well, who knows. The special dividend is import but, from a longer term investment perspective, I am pleased that the running sore of the pension deficit will be resolved.
From memory I believe that the Thai and Malaysian shops are being sold for £8 billion....£5 billion of which is being returned to us shareholders which would work out at around 51 pence per share. Sounds too good to be true in these uncertain times but you never know.
Fair points. From my view i bought 15000 share options at £1.51 that will likely fetch £2.50 and there will be the matter of a decent special dividend. It can sometimes be hard to bite the hand that feeds you.
At least some others have seen the slight of hand by Directors of our Company . Why is there not a major outcry , or a down tools from the shop floor to highlight it.? The Board needs a good clear out. Just got the re-election papers for our Directors , a total of 14 of them . I know which ones I am voting off the Board. Waste of time though ,and really is it worth sending in , as we innocents only have 5% of shares. Share holding rules should be brought in by Governments around the World to be ONE VOTE PER HOLDER to stop corporate fraud and corruption in Companies. Moan over for today . Keep well fellow posters.
Oh and right at the end of the report it tells you the spread of share holders, only 5% in private investors hands and the rest 95% in corporate hands so to speak, And only 8,200 hold more than 15,000( which I am one) and only 617 hold 50,00-100,000.
I also see they do store tours for investors 3 times a year ,maybe for larger holders !
Yes just read his little bonus goal post move what af shocking disgrace. So after removing the annual bonus for shop workers ( warehouse, managers , and office staff still get it ) this year he collects his near 1,000,000 shares worth £2.4 million looking at his pay / re numeration on page 57 Of the annual report he’s got his snout in deep enough as it is, very very disappointing to read and the board should hang their heads in shame,,
years ago as a driver we was in our annual meeting and we was told Ocado was no threat and the shares weren’t worth investing in !? Oh to sit down with that fella now would be interesting, seeing as they can pick a shop at a fraction of the cost it costs Tescos . Still might pick up some marks and spencer shares . 80p v 240p let’s see in a year which gains the most. Sadly that won’t stop move the goal posts lewis from his undeserved award
I would never have got myself into any position ,where I would do something dishonest when I was a Company Director . Maybe I was fairly unique , because nobody ever had anything on me. By this revelation , I would have to admit a mistake , i.e Caught Out , and re establish the terms of the bonus system ! Ocado is a food supplying retailer , in the same market , but it does not alter the facts that this has been done this with Board Approval I take it . Worrying .
Fair Comment fella.
However, this is peanuts if you relate it to the massive figures involved. What are you going to do? It is the system that is driving this, not the individual. What would you do if you were in the same position?
The figures are not too good if you take the other retailers into consideration , so you take one out of the equation , OCADO and hey presto haven't I done well and then I will award myself £1.6 million pound bonus . Dave Lewis you should be ashamed of yourself. In my day it was called cooking the books , or fudging . Oh and surprise surprise the other Directors are getting a slice too ! Makes me sick. Should be sacked ! ! ! !
Even better news we lose some of our temps Sunday, only 5 but that’s £500 a week in costs saved.
Also a better night on out of date waste only £14.
Well in two days I’ve taken off £150 pounds of out of date stuff along with what the produce guy took off on nights I think we’ve hit £400 in two nights just through lack of imbeciles not rotating! Although nothing compared to the £360 of apples I took of the shelf the other week that was days and up to 18 days out of date according to the label on the box , Avacados £100 unbelievable waste at the moment. Sooner were shot of these temps the better.
