Well, it was answered here I reckon.
@d200 - been out walking the dog - anyway getting back to it.... secondary packaging for pharmaceuticals makes a lot of sense to me as I know they are very keen to be seen as greener and design for manufacture building in those credentials is what they are after nowadays

Watch the bbc interview
Hospital paints, water pipe coatings, all manner of health and safety equipment, the applications are truly limitless, public toilet coatings who knows
Dyor and then get excited!
Agreed d200
so for me the market is more foodstuffs with short to medium shelflife and secondary packaging as well as any extras like gloves, medical etc.
Just thinking if the product is functionaly desinged to degrade then its unlikely to suit primary packaging requirements certianly for more moisture sensitive products or thos in the higher humidity test zones
Better entry that is
Broadly familiar - my background more design, installation and validation but done a bit on stabilty requirements for NPI and change control
I was thinking more secondary packaging. It would need more data if it were to be considered functional primary packaging materials (e.g. moisture barrier). By the way - I know a little bit about stability testing are you familiar with Q1A(R) ?

That's massive
Grupo Bimbo is the largest baking company in the world and a major producer of snack foods. It has sales of $US 15.1 billion across 32 countries and 3.2 million points of sale. Grupo Bimbo has a strong commitment to the communities in which it has a presence, as well as to environmental care, which today is grouped into 4 main axes: reduction of carbon footprint, reduction of water footprint, integral waste management, and natural capital.
Grupo Bimbo are not obliged by legislation to use biodegradable packaging, but as an environmentally-responsible company they decided that it was the right thing to do, being aware of worldwide concerns about the environment. Grupo Bimbo's packaging is part of a program that will reduce the impact of plastic pollution in the environment without causing any reduction in recycling or product safety.
Daniel Servitje, President and CEO of Grupo Bimbo said "This journey began in 2008 when, with the help of Symphony, a strategic partner in the innovation of packaging, we became the first Mexican company to incorporate d2w technology in our packaging. A year later, in 2009, we were pioneers worldwide when we introduced this technology in metalized packaging. Today, 100% of our packaging in Mexico, that can be made with biodegradable technology, is already biodegradable and 100% recyclable. Our objective is that by 2025 all our packaging will be recyclable or biodegradable or compostable."
an absolute no-brainer for any perishable foodstuffs though
possibly but couldnt see it being used as product contact or primary packaging as not sure it would be the best at meeting the stability requirements but would possibly be useful as secondary packaging
LEGEND.
I'm not sure if everyone has realised yet but a food contact certification from FDA is THE requirement for pharmaceutical packaging materials in the US market and indeed beyond the US market ( I know because I helped write the guidelines with FDA). I can see these products being utilised in medicines packaging materials and that is a massive opportunity.
