Demonstrable success? Just one example. Malta one of the success stories for vaccination, is seeing more deaths this year, than the pre-vaccine, particularly among the elderly boostered population.
I believe that vaccine effectivity will be a hot topic for future historians.
Thanks Wigster for posting the video.
I completely understood JVTs answer to the specific SNG question. It seems to me he is aware that SNG is in trials and in his answer seemed to speak to the correct usage of therapeutics and the need to understand what that correct usage is.
He is correct to champion vaccines considering the demonstrable success of those and the cost effectiveness both in financial terms and in terms of lives.
I get that we all want SNG to be a success but there was nothing for or against that in this interview. SNG had only published trial results for a few hundred patients and that is not enough. Asking JVT to champion SNG publicly ahead of P3 is not realistic.
GLA. The whole narrative can change when P3 results are published. Fingers crossed. Maybe even in 4 minutes!!
I wonder what JVT think about this story ?

I think Jvt should stick to cooking the books rather than bake off. That lot are experts in that .
Thanks wigster.
I wouldn't mind betting Van Tam has bought shares in Sng. It appears his condescending behaviour at the goverment press conferences has made him somewhat of a celebrity. According to the media he is going on Celebrity Bake Off. Perhaps Boris Johnsons wife can go on the program as well. Cringe, Cringe and Cringe.
Thanks for posting the link to your recording Wigster77, much appreciated.
Don't trust the guy one bit .He will not show any neutrality even after the Queen has swung her sword at his shoulder and given him his official membership card for the old boys network ..I'd love it if Cummings had something on him ,then again ,maybe he does and he's towing the line .
We don't want him and we don't need him on our side .He's just a puppet .
Thank you Wigster77 for uploading the video of the question asked to JVT about the Synairgen treatment. His answer was very classy and matches his actions of the previous week . That is why he got to the top of his profession. When the Panorama documentary comes out later this year dedicated to the story of the development of the Synairgen wonder treatment, that video clip will be in the program.
Tbh, he’s probably fed up of being asked about it.
Firstly he doesn’t have anything to do with the company or trials.
Secondly, it must be glaringly obvious that the only people asking constantly about it are Synairgen investors on message boards. He knows it’s in development right now, he also knows that the investors will have a field day if he says anything about it (of which he can’t reveal anything that was discussed in the SAGE meetings anyway).
When it passes Phase 3 (hopefully), then he can talk about it. Every time he does one of these speeches and talks he gets asked questions by frantic Synairgen PI’s.
Jean Claude interview
Just watched it. My view. He’s irritated by question. No comment of ‘never heard of them’
He knows it shortens recovery time. He mentions 24HR’s but for that read 3 or four days. So he knows there are benefits
Then enter ‘is it worth it on public purse’
Therein lies judgement… he know it’s been overlooked and it’s easy to talk of 24HR’s
But he maybe knows it’s only best used when u r half foooooked. Namely in hospital. Not actually that useful at keeping you out of hospital.
So no change for me other than there ARE benefits. He knows. But maybe not magical benefits. And his cost vs benefit notion is perfectly fair and applies to any drug
He was defensive IMHO. And the lip licking at the start was evidence of that!
Why would we let JVT reveal anything about synairgen, he's had nothing to do with us. Are people really surprised?
We've not released P3 data and would we really let JVT steal the limelight?
It's all about Sir Stephen Holgate and RM.
Move along nothing to see.
Doc83
Thanks for sharing.
‘Thankfully, once vaccinated, a large proportion of people infected with Sars Cov2 will not go into hospital or die. ‘
How do they get their jobs?
I think 19000 currently hospitalised people in the UK alone might disagree, although we don’t know how many are vaccinated. Also, what about the many millions globally that aren’t willing to be vaccinated?
Agreed Doc and it's not my ego that cares of course
Oak, I hope you’re right and I’m wrong.
Fair enough Doc I just found the references to targeting, NNT's then cost sounded like SNG all over.
Not sure if this will work, but hopefully this'll be a link to the specific question:

Just a personal recording if I missed anything.
I wasn’t expecting anything from JVT to be fair. And I find him hard to listen to!
Absolutely nothing re SNG from him as far as I can tell. But I’ll agree to disagree, Oakleaf :)
Did you find that after event Doc83? If so where. Plenty want to hear this?
Question: “Assuming successful P3 results, will Synairgen’s inhaled interferon treatment form part of the UK’s treatment landscape in 2022?”
Answer: “I’ll answer but not re a particular pharma or entity. I’m going to say, the public health value of treatments lies not in shortening symptoms by 24hrs but by stopping people going into hospital and stopping people dying. Thankfully, once vaccinated, a large proportion of people infected with Sars Cov2 will not go into hospital or die.
These treatments have to be targeted and research has to be done to work out population groups who can really benefit. Otherwise, we get into the number needed to treat being large indeed, that the number needed to treat to avoid one death or hospitalisation. But if that NNT is very large or cost is large, policy makers have to make difficult choices about where our money is spent.”
Skippy, you will understand when you see it
Oak, worth clarifying that the question was directly related to the UK and NHS. This is why I thought his answer was more about justifying why the UK hadn't supported SNG more - I fully agree with Matterhorn's assessment that what he was saying about NTT was quite positive for SNG, they have identified the cohort patients where the number of treatments given Vs the number of lives saved and/or shortened hospital stays offers value for money
*doesn’t
Thanks Oak.
I’ll try and find it tomorrow if there is a recording. I don’t see how JVT can answer specific questions about SNG so close to P3 results even if he knows anything.
