Bruce - If they do it will end up in the courts. There will be millions unvaccinated for a variety of reasons and stopping them travelling, especially if, as many experts believe, covid will become endemic and more like seasonl flu. Vaccination does not guarantee you dont have the virus and can still pass it on so its a ridiculous strategy. Testing is much more effective. If you dont have the virus you dont have it, simple and you cant pass on a virus you dont have.
travel companies may refuse bookings from unvaccinated people
Well scinv the thing is I'd more than likely not need it at the moment because I've had Covid and for me it was nothing but a sore head and loss of taste.
My issue is why should I take a risk taking something that I don't need to benefit others potentially. Call me selfish or whatever, but my health has to be prioritised over others.
I'm not saying that I would get sick or have side effects but I don't need to take that risk.
It's just a case of personal choice and I respect people's decisions on what they want to do. I wouldn't expect anyone to take something just to benefit me.
People don't keep dying after getting the vaccine but when you vaccinate tens of millions of elderly people the fact is some of those people will die in the not too distant future.
gkb, when sng001 was peer reviewed in the Lancet everyone here saw that as proof that the trial was a success and we expected everyone to get behind the results. Why then is that not the case with the Oxford vaccine?
The Tiger is always right!
Let's see if Tiger about today, I think he could be busy!
i agree Doc, this is turning into mumsnet. At least the kids are back to school today so i can watch the share price do nothing in peace for a change!
Why are you expecting there to be long term side effects? What side effects do you think they might find in two years time? New limbs growing? There have been some serious side effects seen in a small subset of people (was it shellfish alergies and pfizer?) and those people will not be given the vaccine.
Of course there have been issues with vaccines in the past but science has come on leaps and bounds. This isn't thalidomide all over again, there is absolutely no reason to be worried about long term complications.
And 23 hours a day on my sunbed getting a good dose of UV seems to be doing the trick!!
The vaccine has been tested for side effects but anyone that argues that it has been tested for long term effects is just wrong.
There can't be any long term data and people that decide not to take it because of lack of this form of data then fair play to them. I won't be for that reason.
I just cannot abide people labelling people who are dubious of THIS vaccine as anti vax.
It's unfair and I just wish people would respect others regardless of whether they want it or not.
The glass of bleach I am drinking everyday seems to be doing the trick so far!
Cr19 only issue is that we don’t know any long term side effects and what group will be affected if any.. I am in my 30s and no way will I be vaccinated.. just not worth the risk.. but if I was in my 70s then that’s a different story ofc.. looking forward to seeing the data when everything is open and we can freely travel.. only thing that I am now convinced about is that vaccines had lowered the number of deaths dramatically, and that’s great.. but I have my doubts regarding everything else, like rate of infections etc
Respect your opinion, woody, although I don't agree. However, I'm not sure what the better alternative is.. test the vaccine for years to get long term safety data and allow millions to die ? When you wish something else you always have to ask what's the alternative. Anyway, I'm sure it's simply your personal thoughts being opined, rather than trying to sway other people.
why delay Vitamen D i have been taking it for months.
Just to clarify - I'm not trying to persuade anyone to get the vaccine, everyone can make their own choice on that.
I was just highlighting that I don't think it's correct to say it's not been tested.
Because I have enough confidence in the research which has been done to be reassured the vaccines dont have long term side effects - the same as all other vaccines we take without second thought.
And while I take your point about a 99% survival rate - I don't want to be the 1 in 100 who becomes seriously ill or does, so anything which reduces the chance of that happening is a positive thing.
If I catch Covid-19 before (or after) being vaccinated you better believe I will be taking vitamin D, paracetamol or anything else I can do to even give myself the smallest chance of preventing the virus worsening.
CR,
Why take the risk with a 99% survival rate?
Do you know if it will effect your future children, WhT take the risk.

@Woody - the vaccines have been tested on tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people. Since being approved they have now been given to hundreds of millions of people. How much testing would you want undertaken?
You can argue over efficacy data, and the long term benefits can't be known until more time has passed, but to say the vaccines haven't been tested enough is incorrect.
Similarly, a lot of people post when people get seriously ill or die, as if that is reason to stop the vaccines. There are going to be cases like this with every medication - even those taking SNG001 will eventually result in a death. It doesn't mean treatments don't work or should be suspended immediately.
Preventing cytokine storm?
‘Among those in the pipeline is Synairgen’s SNG001, an inhalable beta interferon. This type of drug helps reduce inflammation and the body’s immune reaction.’
‘.....and the body’s immune reaction’ ?
Not sure i’m happy with that phrase, since, to quote the co.
‘SNG001 is an inhaled formulation of interferon-beta-1a (IFN-ß1a), a respiratory drug which has been found to inhibit viruses and boost antiviral responses in the lungs.’
not for us to interfere. i am sure the company knows what it is doing

Good article.
Solid factual release from the company now please, media update, MARCH articles from the US or UK, phase trials update, director buys...anything else to post is white noise.

Jagannathan, from Stanford, is one of the lead investigators on interferon, and he likes what he sees.
“We’re really excited about this for a couple of reasons,” he said. “Interferon seems to play a really important role in the body’s early response to infection. There’s evidence that people with deficient signaling go on to have more severe disease, and early evidence suggests that giving this particular interferon could be beneficial.”
