Cat posted this back in August. SEE didn’t pick up on it.

The big news for me me apart from release of Guardian 2 is it’s use for in LCV. That’s probably another huge markets (well over 100M vehicles annually) and hopefully our distributor channels are global enough that we can compete with the like of Lytx/Nauto.
I’m sure more can be said about the tech too.
Looks a nice deal here. So 500 sales & support centres with all those Cat customers.
How many units would you expect Each Cat location to sell? 1 a Week? 5 a Week? 10 a Week? 1 per Week could be 2000 units month. Even 1 per Month per location would be great.
Thats some sales & installation force that arent even on the payroll.
Caterpillar has entered into an agreement with Seeing Machines Pty Ltd to deliver and support light vehicle and on-highway driver fatigue and distraction monitoring technology through Cat® dealers.

Great find Klick.
It almost reads like an RNS announcing Guardian 2 release — only that it’s done by CAT. Seems that they’re now one of our distributors and offer monitoring services as well.
I don’t think there’ll be new licencing announcement with CAT but the ‘field of use’ has already been negotiated before — can’t find the announcement.
CAT has been a great partner over the years. I’m sure the income from CAT tripled yoy (?royalty). It’ll be interesting to find out how much we get from them for 2020. If CAT runs a profitable monitoring centres (like we do) it’ll only mean more income streams for SEE.
So the phone is just used for storage and comms I assume.. great find JC as always.
Thanks for the detial TLS,
I especially like it when you say 'It is better than that!'
Of course, that makes more sense as my cheapo doesn't have an near infra red light & sensor ;)
Just to clarify, The patent that Seeing Machines have recently placed a Request for Continued Examination against is not a phone. It is better than that!
Think about it a Seeing Machine phone would be either Apple or Android, so you have upset one of those camps. To roll it out across the business would wipeout any previous investments in kit, or cause delays while the existing phones get used a bit longer, etc.
Instead the patent is just for a docking station with inbuilt IR camera and IR lights you add your own existing phone. So businesses can roll this out at anypoint irrespective of the relative age of the phone. The only consideration would be to order the appropriate power connector.
Now I’ve seen SEE’s post referring to Cat as a Guardian 2 distributor I agree with you Esc. I wonder if SEE’s other distributors will soon be able to access this product... that would be very special.
Great find Klick!
This is exactly the kind of distributor SEE have been crying out for in US and adjacent markets, and it turns out they were right under our noses the whole time :)
Hopefully we'll se some serious onboarding numbers off the back of this news in the coming weeks and months.
Hi JC. Do you have any thoughts on whether the smart phone might be built specifically for purpose, or whether the fatigue monitoring functionality could be achieved via a downloaded app? Either way, we are talking about the integration of eye-tracking into a hand held device so this is big news.
Wow! That would be fantastic John. I hope you are right but I'm sure you have reason to believe it from the patents research. I don't get the impression this is another licensing deal as there will be no exclusive. I think it's another very large and prestigious distributor for our product.
Good find Klick,
This leads me to speculate that the SEE etal plan for Guardian V3 is that it will be rolled out to different parts of the auto market by either CAT or Qualcomm and/or partners as a Smart phone on a phone docking station on a windscreen with inward and outward facing cameras for the mass market.

Great find Klick. Sounds as though another licensing deal could be announced soon. The company’s momentum is excellent at the moment.

Caterpillar has entered into an agreement with Seeing Machines Pty Ltd to deliver and support light vehicle and on-highway driver fatigue and distraction monitoring technology through Cat® dealers.
Seeing Machines’ Guardian 2 system is an advanced, non-intrusive system that senses operator movements and analyses them for symptoms of fatigue or distraction in light vehicle applications. Seat vibration and audio alarms alert operators when a microsleep or distraction event is detected to effectively reduce dangerous and costly incidents.
Guardian 2 joins the Driver Safety System (DSS), a rugged system for fatigue and distraction monitoring in off-highway vehicles, as part of the Cat MineStar™ Detect portfolio of safety technologies and services. Guardian 2 and DSS enable customers to cost effectively fit any vehicle in the fleet – heavy equipment, support vehicles and highway vehicles – with next generation monitoring systems supported by the local Cat dealer and linked to Caterpillar’s 24-hour Fatigue Monitoring.
Guardian 2 replaces the DSS-H system and features new driver monitoring software, which delivers expanded capabilities. The system employs an improved sensor for enhanced resolution and an expanded field of view inside the cab. Guardian 2 leverages Seeing Machines’ long and broad experience in guiding automotive OEMs in deploying this technology across a wide range of vehicles.
“The Guardian 2 system reduces the likelihood of safety incidents by alerting operators and keeping them focused on the job at hand,” said Mindy Elsasser, Commercial Manager for MineStar Detect products. “The monitoring services also provide near real-time alerts that inform supervisors of fatigue and distraction events, allowing them to respond quickly to help prevent further incidents.”
Additionally, the system provides reports and analytics, which enable site leaders to track patterns and determine if operators are having repeated fatigue or distraction events. Reports give managers visibility to the full impact of fatigue and distraction on safety and performance.
Onboard the vehicle, the system continuously measures operator head position and eye closure to determine the onset of fatigue or distracted behavior and delivers real-time detection and alerts. The driver-facing sensor and forward-facing camera require no input from the operator, and the driver is not required to wear any special equipment. As a result, the system allows the operator to focus on driving safely.
Guardian is a proven system. Since its introduction, Guardian has logged more than 4 billion kilometres travelled and has detected more than 6.4 million distraction events.
