Ivy,
Thanks for the comprehensive information.
I was diagnosed with acid reflux About 12 years ago. The symptoms were so severe, I was hospitalised with suspected heart attack. I took ppi for many years but read it may not be a good idea to be on them long term. I stopped taking them but had severe acid attacks. I tried again and managed to come off completely about 18 months ago.
I was prescribed naproxen for the sciatica and put on Omeprozole to counteract.
The naproxen didn’t actually stop the pain, neither does coding or paracetamol. I can’t take ibuprofen as it is incompatible with the BP medication.
The only thing I can take that works is annadin extra.
Appreciate that Ivy, it is difficult sometimes to logically work out what each medication does as so many taken in combinations of 2/3 others as you know do different things. Where I am fortunatunate is I have 5 consultants and each one has to go through my oncologist before prescribing any drug, again as you know each drug works differently with others, but will look at that link, but I do rely on my oncologist to prescribe only what I need, which still comes to 23 different drugs a day!!! Ridiculous amount and that is why I have problems picking any one to explain side effects. Anyway, goodnight, could be an interesting week, heaven knows we are due one, and hoping it goes our way. Take care.
I am talking about NSAIDs so Non steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs which are most common anti arthritis drugs so reduce pain and inflammation so everything like aspirin, ibuprofen,Naproxen etc.
They work by inhibiting The Enzyme pathway mainly Cox1. ( generally bad so prostaglandins etc and leads to GI issues like acid and ulcers) and the Cox 2 pathway largely protective so the early NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen blocked both pathways equally so you needed to add proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole.
If you use a more Cox 2 specific NSAID like Celebrex then the thought is their is not so much need to use likes if Omeprazole as you are reducing risk of GI issues.
You may raise other issues so is nit clear cut but my point us there are alternatives which reduce pain and inflammation but are much less risky re GI probs than a lot of the common proscribed NSAIDs
Presume a lot of your medication has been on much stronger steroid and much stronger analgesics like nerve blockers which operate further up the peripheral or CNS cascade.

Ivy, really did not understand your post. I thought I knew a fair bit about medication, but NSAIDs and COX2?? Can you explain.
Ruck, no wasn"t me that said about Omeprozole, TBH I wish I had no medication. What side effects do you have trying to come off them?? It is difficult for me as I take so many to isolate any one.
Evening RR,
If you are taking NSAIDs and they are not Cox 2 specific like Naproxen etc then you really need to take Omeprazole to counter the potential side effects re acid in gut and risk of ulcers.
If you want to take NSAIDs to reduce pain and inflammation say you want aCox 2 specific so tryouts don’t need omeprazole
I had managed to wean myself off Omeprazole a year ago but went back on it to counteract the effects of the painkillers for sciatica. Off the painkillers (back on Annadin) so trying to come off the Omeprozole.
I thought it was you who told me it wasn’t a good idea to take Omeprozole long term? I know there are a number of medical conditions where there really is no other choice.
The “ludicrously cheap” comment was directed at everyone that didn’t post - certainly more than one lol!
I’ll bring the thread forward so you can see...
Nice post Ruck, yeah feel the same, Waitrose have brought a new scheme, where I can order 23 items, pay a £5 delivery fee, but get it in just two hours from ordering it, so pretty used to doing without things I want, but just happy to have what I need, this is a great service, and agree there is nothing just about that I can"t cook at home that tastes any better in a restaurant and without an £80 bill if you are lucky.
Omeprozole?? Lol, that is one of my 23 a day, for acid refux and Barrats Oesophegus, you the same???
But it is interesting we have all changed to whatever degree, perhaps being grateful for what we have is just one of them.
PS. we did discuss whether we are ""ludicrously cheap"", something I think about often, I just wonder whether that is guided at one poster, rather than many of us??
Evening Ruck,
Tough times for us all, seems like life is on "hold" not nice.
Just when perhaps we could enjoy the time we have worked so hard for.
Very much missing the real live banter of friends and associates.
Your life seems quite similar, I walk 2 miles twice a day with my headphones on, Bruce in the morning and Jeremy in the afternoon, that's about as good as it gets at the moment.
2020, write it off!

Take care.

Evening C7, Bunsie,
My wife and I have barely been anywhere since lockdown. We leave the house only for a walk.
We used to eat out every Friday evening at either of two local pubs. I have several conditions that would make Covid worse - age, asthma, male, high BP and being on omeprazole. Since working from home on lock down I have developed sciatica which has got progressively worse over the past 12 weeks so now unable to work at all.
We don’t miss the food eating out, most dishes I can could as well if not better myself. I have also added some new dishes to my repertoire (such as Moussaka which has become a family favourite).
Sunday roasts are a thing of the past as our shopping slot is Sunday evening, too late to cook that day and not enough shelf life for the following week. What doesn’t come we go without. This week it was icing sugar and painkillers- ouch!
The thing we miss about eating out is the social experience. Eating out overseas is even better as often you will get new dishes, impossible to cook at home as you just couldn’t get the ingredients (perhaps in London you could but not in the sticks). Your Naples experience sounds nice Bunsie, made me think of seafood at Jordan’s on Darling harbour. Every bit as good as Doyle’s but without the premium price tag. I like ribeye but the ribeye you get in the US is very different to what we get here. I imagine it’s because it is cut differently?
C7, “are we ludicrously cheap” is a good question. I tried to initiate a debate on it but there we very few takers.
Bunsie, well done on your triumph.
C7,
You got me thinking where I would be right now... oh dinner at Alice Sweetwater in Naples, crab & lobster wantons, steamed green lip mussels, sitting outside in the sunshine, or at the Boathouse down on the water having a beautiful Rib Eye with caeser salad and anchovies, washed down with some lovely wines... then back to the pool at the house for an evening dip.
Seems like an age ago!!
Maybe next year
You would be welcome too.

Evening C7,
I agree with you about getting out and about, no quite confident about that just yet. Our local opened Monday but thought best to let the demand die down a little.
I am just about happy to have the family around, especially if we can sit out in the garden. Both my children are professionals, one a Senior Air Traffic Controller the other a Paramedic and are very mindful of my age and risk, although I am in really good shape other than a bit of BP.
Just seems that I am wasting my weeks away though sometimes.
ATB
Ruck/Bunsie,
Didn"t read your whole thread but food will generally catch my attention.
We were contemplating going out to eat, but I still don"t feel comfortable sitting in a crowded restaurant and certain restaurants round here are busy. What about where you guys live??
So made the best Chicken Ticka Massala, with a kilo of breast of chicken, papadums and pilau rice, with enough left over for easily 2 meals, washed down with a couple of bottles of Pinot Grigio and raspberry Pavlova. Tasted as good as in any restaurant I could go too and there is something about eating at home and cooking that I have really enjoyed at about a third of the price of going out., with a couple more meals frozen in freezer to look forward too. So many people I talk to are reluctant to go out to eat, have felt the same thing, and I just wonder how many restaurants will survive. Already many have closed during the lockdown.
Still pondering over a top up tomorrow, or depositing more in my CFD A/C. One thing that strikes me with the volume of posts we have seen of late, is whether negative or positive there are plenty of people still very interested in trading this share, are we ludicrously cheap?? Well, I can see us returning to the 8s on some good news!!!
Bunsie,
The ribeye was great served with chips, mushrooms, tomato and salad. The CDP was perfect with it although I would normally have Bordeaux with steak, maybe a St Emilion.
Best of all, there was plenty of steak left to do crispy Chinese beef on a bed of noodles and mushrooms tonight. A nice bottle of white cotes du Rhône to wash it down.
.
Evening Ruck,
How was your rib eye last night , Pittsburgh style I hope (burned and turned) and as for the wine CDP it's my choice of wines
I felt like the underdog with just a wagyu burger and a few tinnies.
ATB
Perhaps a Freudian slip.
I think the wine has had an effect on my wife. She has just said the Pappo chef du naff was lovely.
No, I’m keeping the generous ones for myself!
Ruck
Only generous ones I trust
Ray,
I’ve got 10 nephews I can lend you a couple.
Ruck
I could do with a nephew like that.
Bunsie/Ruck,
Many of us are probably more aligned on the science and it’s prospects of success than we are sometimes given credit for. When quotes like the Vulpes DD which stated they thought it was the best science they ever came across and that is what made them buy in and the various external validations like CRUK and Bion Tech then of course we become more positive and confident and the SP goes up.
Sentiment ebbs and flows so when these validations appear not to progress then the converse applies.
Some here have an unerring confidence in the science and that is fine as it gives them total faith in buying more. Some on here myself included are more sanguine and hence a hesitancy to buy more until I get more information.
It does not make any of us right or wrong and for those in one share the decision maybe do I buy more today or tomorrow whereas if you are in several shares you may well sell here for a variety of reasons, distressed, bored, you consider better opps elsewhere, think SP going to fall etc.
But you may still believe in the share.
I still maintain the science will determine the outcome here but it is science that is validated by a deal or by data and so far we have seen excellent swimmer chart data but there are obviously some reservations expressed by the wider industry.
Bunsie,
Hope you enjoy. For me, rib eye steak and a bottle of chateauneuf de pape (a birthday present from my nephew)
Ruck,
Me to,
but it is my time now for a delicious Wagyu burger and maybe a few tins of lager, at home, safe and sound.
Have a good evening all
ATB
Bunsie,
There are three possible outcomes. One is positive and two are negative. That is just a statement of fact, I don’t set the odds.
I sincerely hope we get the positive outcome.
Ruck,
Why always double negatives, lose, lose. Can you offer just one positive for once.
No offence intended, just seems you are possibly depressed regarding this share.
