WTP: All I can suggest is to support the local MP, who has called this out (funding timelines).
I've not seen any reports back about the memory T-cell efficacy from any of the vaccines in trials - not quite sure why that it (and it could be I'm not looking in the right place). What I have seen is the the German patient ZERO has no antibodies left, and that Moderna's 2 shot CV19 vaccine lasted 13 weeks in rats.
Certainly writing to your own MP now, regardless of political ideology, may help gain support for rethinking how to approach the immunisation of those most at risk and front line workers.
Fair point @rw
The point I was making was Nottigham/Scancell/Bristol could have easliy got some starter funds, seeing as the goverment had set a precendent of throwing/stealing tax payers money with dodgy PPE contracts and paying billions for other vaccines. What's a cheeky piffling million of tax payers money in that context? Anyway rant over...and apologies.
P.s. IMO we should all be fuming at the PPE scandal.
P.P.S. Rant definitely over now :S
'talking about politics on here is probably not a good idea' - followed by a lengthy political post. Could we have a bit more stuff focused on Scancell please? The company is in an unprecedentedly strong position in general, but I doubt the Marxist enclaves of Islington are saying much about us, so let's leave them off here by return.
Hi @C7,
Re my ""IMO this government are as shady and self serving as they come."" - I was referring to past UK governments.
I agree, talking about politics on here is proabably not a good idea, apologies, but for what it's worth, I'm neither a red or a blue politically speaking, in fact I'm almost apolictical, so much so I could not bring myself to vote in december, but that doesn't stop me noticing the blatant cronyism, self serving vile behaviour by this current incumbent.
Would Corbyn/Abbot done a better job, we'll never know, Abbot is a walking disaster I agree but at least with Corbyn there seemed(?) to be some sembelence of decency, and (hopefully) not the pure unadulterated selfishness we are seeing. I don't think taxpayers money would have wasted on very (very) dodgy PPE contracts. IMO it almost feels like Conservative MP's are use the pandemic to benefit themsleves even more than they would do in normal times.
Anyway, tell me if the following doesn't show greed, contempt, self serving and frankly illegal behaviour:
https://leftfootforward.org/2020/07/why-did-the-government-hand-a-pest-control-company-and-sweet-confectioner-millions-in-ppe-contracts/
https://goodlawproject.org/update/response-secretary-of-state/
https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/108million/
https://goodlawproject.org/news/ppe-masks-not-fit-for-purpose/
"...More details of the PPE fiasco that left hundreds of doctors and nurses dead are starting to emerge.
Whilst our EU partners were putting together emergency procurement arrangements in late January, it wasn’t until March that the Government set up an emergency scheme to protect our doctors, nurses, and care workers.
By then the Government was having to play catch up – ditching the normal rules that secure good value for public money and which guard against corruption. The Government spent a staggering £5.5bn on PPE contracts. Shockingly, three of the biggest beneficiaries were companies specialising in pest control, a confectionery wholesaler, and an opaque family fund owned through a tax haven."
Anyway the point I'm making is that the funding for Nottingham/Scancell?bristol merely higlighted to me some funny goings on, the corruption that seems to going on here. Hence why keep harping on about the lack of funds seen by other vaccine developers in the UK, despite them throwing litterally 100's of millions willy nilly at dodgy and fake PPE contracts. Does that sound legit to you?
Nothing but snouts in the trough IMO. If anyone thinks this goverment is looking out for the people and not themselves is deluded...IMO. Rant over. And Apologies again.
Afternoon WTP,
Just read your post, a good post, but e have different political views which is fine, but best left off BBs. It is the reason I didn"t watch any news channels or newspapers since the lockdown, I am just interested in what is going on, what they will do, not what should have happened, it is a bit like retrospect which comes out here often ""if only""
But since watching Al Jazera News the last week and taking into account someone elses opinion, different to mine, I enjoy the way they eliver news, global news, with no political motive (that I have noticed).
Just one comment you made..........................
""IMO this government are as shady and self serving as they come.""
Respect your opinion but I disagree. By atching a broad spectrum of global news, there are many countries in far worse positins than us, not just coronavirus. In fact we hardly get a mention as other news elsewhere is so horrific, but more than that I wouldn"t wish on anybody the job the Tories have had to deal with, of course errors were made we are only human. I just don"t believe Corbyn and Diane Abbot and co could have handled this vaguely better. But as is yours, that is just my opinion. In any walk of life every situation in retropect would have been diffrent, perfection doesn"t xist and boy they hve made so many decisions. Hopefully with the COVID 19, situation it will show compared to the rest of the world we are handling this better for now than many others. And BJ had the virus, very seriously, I just think you are a being a bit harsh IMHO.
It would make sense to invest £100m in 25 different cures though, a small price if alse fails and as some are quick to remind us, there are no gurantees here. ATB
"...Considering the Government are committing in excess of £1b to a cure and future vaccines £3/4m seems a drop in the ocean for a potential vaccine supported by data and five year survival from the SCIB1 original mono trial."
After watching that recent documentary on C4 I had a much greater appreciation as to why the government went so fully behind the Oxford approach, i.e. they were primed & ready to go so to speak, so I stand corrected "to a certain degree"...however my issue is and always has been how money is and was being thrown about left right and centre, for example the 100's of millions of very dodgy PPE deals, literally billions on Oxford/imperial and stocking up of other vaccines e.g. - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53772650
And yet the likes of Nottingham/Scancell and Bristol don't seem to have been given anything (as of yet), not even a £500k grant for expoloratry research? UK institutions who may have suitable alternative candidates.
What happened to the urgency? What happened to the urgency of covering all angles?
"On the surface" neither of these two factors seem to have been addressed...all IMO.
Obviously we don't know exactly what's happennig in the background i.e. with UKRI and the application of grants, but my point agin is if they were were serious about "urgently" finding alternatives to Oxford/imperial etc, then grants to the likes of Notts/Bristol would have been given immediately IMO, and no questions asked...just like Oxford did,
P.s. Regarding PPE -
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tory-backers-handed-180m-worth-22493296
https://bylinetimes.com/2020/07/29/another-strange-trio-of-ppe-contracts-emerge/
"..Using a European loophole – designed for emergencies – the Government has been able to award these huge contracts without competition. In the past week, a new tranche of deals have been published by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and three in particular might raise questions for the Government."
IMO this government are as shady and self serving as they come.
Posted this yesterday, unfortunately nobody replied.
Our cash position....................£14.1m after expenses Raising
Tax Rebate R & D..........................2.5m
Cash in hand was £3m, now........2,5m
Total £19.1m.............................Is that correct???
Never had that kind of cash before, Redmile must have been convinced we are financed accordingly to turn clinicl studies into patient data??
And talking of COVIDITY I am still to hear anybody discuss vaccines in trials as anything more than ""hopeful"". I just wonder whether in the absence of funding Scancell could buy out the interests of our 2 partners and go it alone, with their help, and bonus add ons to turn it into reality?? Just perhaps with any expected income from Avidimab that will be something we can vote on at the AGM?
Considering the Government are committing in excess of £1b to a cure and future vaccines £3/4m seems a drop in the ocean for a potential vaccine supported by data and five year survival from the SCIB1 original mono trial.
Seems a no brainer to me.
Well I have chosen ""strong buy"" again, simply because I do believe that any news will propel us north, and we are perfectly poied for an attack on double figures. In the next week or two we have Lindy speaking at one conference and CH at another. Could someone provide links for both conferences so we can tell which is which.?? Good to feel proactive again, be interesting to see any news released from Scancell before each event which I am still hopeful of.
Semi apologies to Ruck and a few others for having a go about the ""eternal row"", didn"t mean to be rude, don"t think I was but as Bermudashorts so often demonstrates there are other important things happening too, very on topic too.
Had a great day yesterday, was out with my first true love for the day, elt like a human being again since she married an ex friend of mine 38 years ago. Two years seperated now and not enough hours in the day to laugh, reminiscence and catch upbut loving every minute doing stuff I just can"t do by myself.
So my Pet Scan was on Wednesday, results following day, but not a word Thursday/Friday as has happened before. They have a multi disciplanary meeting Monday half day, oncologists, radiologists etc discussing cases like mine, and after they draw lots some poor bugger will have to phone me!!! come Tuesday/Wednesday next week. One of the reasons I enjoyed yesterday so much, no time to think about it.
So onto next week, yeah I fancy news, and would like nothing more than to see us soar past 10, presume I am not the only one, have a great weekend.
Cooler here in London, but still too humid oh well just good to feel happy again, it is priceless. ATVB.
