What US could do is invest zillions in vaxs both development and manufacture and then fairly distribute them... patent waiver a distraction and political' good guy gaming ' and seems to have won Biden plaudits ... will it actually save a life? doubt it ... chucking millions at a Covidity etc could though
CEPI/Covax is the way!
One thing is for sure from reading scancells patents I could never come up with a Covidity and doubt anyone else could though like I say probably some little factory in India could in 2 weeks :) it just would not be Lindys Covidity lol...
Storm in a Teacup and if its that that has caused sp drop ... a joke ...Cheers POTUS
Agreed. However I’m glad the company are doing this if it is possible to scale out timely. However as you said it seems the manufacturing facilities are very high tech and not cheap snd quick to scale up.
Moderna turned a maiden profit and has employed hundreds more from circa 800 last year to circa 1500 this year .
Quarterly profit of 1.44 bill on revenue of 1.73.Full year revenue guidance 19.2 from vaccine sales based on advance purchasing order (up circa a bill).Booster shots to combat variants after initial 2 shots seem to be a possible route their scientists are looking at lately.
Hopefully one or more of the available vaccinations can be scaled and distributed to India, Brazil and other hotspots ASAP.
Re cobra, the firm that bought them was bought out in turn.
I think we would have heard if it had been cancelled.
Does anyone know if ( and if so, by how much) the switch to SN 15 might have delayed CTs?
And reality still dictates we need news if not for only giving us something different to discuss. However much we all want to see help given to developing nations and those in desperate need I think the CEO of Moderna put it in perspective when he says it will take at least 4 years to implement, if ever, and IMHO taking assets from those who have given so much to develop vaccines that we are using to our benefit so far is just a step too far, it is not about what is given it is all about the practical side of distributing it to those in need, and that is where I think precedents in the past teach us that is the hardest part.
Well, as far as we know they ought to have manufactured those plasmids now seeing as they say they can do it in 6 weeks....
Back in October 2020 we got an RNS saying Cobra Bioligistics were going to manufacture the plasmids for COVIDITY trial. I was just wondering what the latest news is on that, along with many things.
Crumbs, well done City too in the Champions League, should be a cracker, made up we have made it to another final. Take care, goodnight
What do you mean?
Will be good to know where we stand with the manufacturing deal with Cobra??
'President Biden’s support for the WTO's proposed temporary waiver of Covid-19 vaccine patents has certainly put the cat among the pigeons, hitting stocks of coronavirus vaccine manufacturers in early trade. But just how real a threat the waiver is to vaccine sales is debatable. On Moderna’s earnings call this morning chief executive Stéphane Bancel told investors that he was not losing sleep – and well might he slumber. In October the group said it would not enforce patents around its Covid jab; in the ensuing seven months no one has used the tech, Mr Bancel said. It is one thing to have the formulation for vaccines, but a very different one to produce them, especially mRNA shots. A shortage in manufacturing capacity and professionals with knowledge of mRNA production provide very effective barriers to entry, before considering the lengthy processes involved in building new facilities and winning regulatory approvals. Any potential sales would therefore be years away. Additionally, it is far from clear that future patents will be waived. Developers are already working on jabs for variants, and Moderna itself is studying multivalent vaccines. As such the share price reaction could well turn out to be a storm in a teacup.'
