Am I right in saying that an effective vaccine has yet to be found against any coronavirus?
If yes then that suggests that these viruses are particularly hard to defeat. It perhaps needs an immune response that is stronger that anything so far generated.
I'm not saying that immunobody is the answer but with the dual presentation it does activate very high avidity T Cells and induce higher than normal clonal expansion.
Furthermore, a strong CD4 T Cell presence may ultimately prove to be essential to coordinate all the immune components in the fight.
Only time and trial results will tell.
its gone cloudy ..
Oh yes, they certainly are generals.
Generals direct the troops - hold your position or is that “HOLD your shares”.
Any questioning of the general’s directions are deemed “causing trouble”
are you coming here to cause Trouble Ivy ............ ? looks like it to me, didn't you attempt this the other day .. ? By pretending to be a Fund Manager ...
and actually they have ........ Lindy has a T cell killing a virus .. on screen Sky News ...
""" Well SCLP have not provided any evidence for activating""
can you show a Post Ivy, that i have dismissed a particular Covid vaccine .... ?
Morning
Well SCLP have not provided any evidence for activating or inducing any T cell response vs Covid 19 unlike other Vax candidates you seem happy to dismiss.
Science is ultimately about proving and providing evidence not extrapolating theoretical possibilities and then assigning a no risk or no reason to not work rationale which seems commonplace here.
Whether that us works in mouse so must work in humans or works in cancer cells therefore must work against a Covid 19 virus.
Do you understand the difference or concept of evidence based medicine.
ATB
I am trying to explain the importance of a CD4 t cell to any vaccine .........
you are clearly not getting that importance
I was going to expand the thread to the differential for CD4 helper into TH1 and Th2 " and the way they interact with humoral response (antibodies)and Cell mediated Cd8 T cells
i ask you a question and you reply with a question ... while dismissing my question with "whats the point"
as this is going no where ATB
Sorry Inanaco, what is your point? I'm not sure what you're responding to.
Are you saying that a phase I from Scancell for Covidity could provide evidence of efficacy?
in your opinion ............ Bermuda ... who is the most advanced vaccine designer of CD4 t cells ... ??
Who has proven they can build a vaccine that induces Cross presentation to induce potent High Avidity T cells
its all about the platform ........
Inanaco,
Of course these results won't tell us anything about efficacy - no COVID-19 phase I trial will do that, not even Scancell's when/if it happens. All we're getting from these early trial results from BioNTech, Oxford, CanSino is confirmation that the vaccines are safe and the response from patients warrants taking the product forward into further clinical trials.
TF - I haven't read the Telegraph article as I don't subscribe but there are 23 vaccines in clinical trials, not 10. I assume the whole article follows on from Peston's 'leak' yesterday and I have seen other articles too, predicting encouraging trial results. I don't know whether these 'leaks' are coming from Gov., Oxford, The Lancet, or some other source but it's really poor and very disappointing. No better than Moderna's hype IMO. Let's hope when the results do finally come that they are able to live up to the high expectations these articles are creating.
This echoes what was said in the S&T Committee meeting. They also mentioned that their t-cell activation had yet to be proven effective, along with antibodies affecting only about 50%.

Bingham referred a few times to a new business plan for a research industry which I assume is linked to the research funding agency - that is near the top of the page.
""" However the source cautioned that the results, while “extremely promising”, did not yet prove that the Oxford vaccine provides long-lasting immunity against Covid-19."""
and that is it in a nutshell ........
unknown over 55's
unknown those that have other chronic conditions
until you get that detail ......... the vaccine is worthless ..
I said this from the very start ............ the 80% don't matter ... its the 20% that get into trouble
exactly the same with the Flu .. the Government does not inoculate the whole population
People who should have a flu vaccine
The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk.
This is to help protect them against catching flu and developing serious complications.
You should have the flu vaccine if you:
are 65 years old or over
are pregnant
have certain medical conditions
are living in a long-stay residential care home or another long-stay care facility
receive a carer's allowance, or you're the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
Frontline health and social care workers are also eligible to receive the flu vaccine. It's your employer's responsibility to arrange and pay for this vaccine.
