Will this rns of goldmans holding help push this share up? Am I right in saying they have increased their holding here?
Definitely a vote of confidence.
Hopefully the shorters will start getting panicky and that will keep the momentum going.
Standard Life Aberdeen stake up 0.3% to 10.05%.
More good news.
Hope they can feel their fingers burning!
"RPC’s top shareholder has warned that the plastic packaging giant is “highly vulnerable” to a takeover bid as investors row over its expansion plans."
Is that bad? I can't see a takeover bid forcing the SP down.
from yesterday's telegraph...
RPC’s top shareholder has warned that the plastic packaging giant is “highly vulnerable” to a takeover bid as investors row over its expansion plans.
Standard Life Aberdeen, which holds a 10pc stake, said that RPC’s low share price will have sparked bid interest from overseas rivals and private equity firms.
Guy Douthwaite, fund manager at the heavyweight investor, backed the £3bn company’s plan to drive growth with bolt-on acquisitions. However, he told The Sunday Telegraph that it could be swept up amid a slew of consolidation deals in the sector.
Reminds me of qpp when you say that and that did not end well at all.
I think the problem with RPC is not that it produces plastic, which in the main is non biodegradable and is therefore a major problem for the planet, that could be rectified at the drop of a hat if the powers that be chose to do something about it.
It's about money, and the way RPC report how they have made it, over recent years it's mainly by acquisition, the accountants then massage the numbers legally, and come up with the headline profit, head honchos get their bonus payments everybody's happy.
Only problem is that some hedge funds and others disagree, and say that the accounting methods don't reflect the true financial position of the company.
So we take out pick, it's all about money, smoke and mirrors, not as i first thought plastic.
The market is no doubt nervous over the enviromental kerfuffle, but then the market is always worried and the tree huggers are always making a fuss over something.
I think that I will hang onto RPC for a bit longer.
It appears that the wider debate regarding plastic waste and environmental imparement is casting a shadow, irrespective of what the Coy states on the subject.
Why do analysts react as they do to what to me appears to be a positive statement ahead of the AGM. Why should the SP dive in the way that it has?
Perhaps RPC needs to consider a new Nomad to promote the Coy. Not good that RPC has hedge funds speculating - as per Castleback.
8% of stock bought by hedge funds, betting price will fall. Will it be time to stock up soon.
Looking like we are heading on the right track. I could not see any reason for the sudden decline in sp and I still have no clue. Foul play somewhere? Anyway, good to see it heading in the right direction and will certainly be holding for now and tempted to add more. This and wincanton have been the only two shares that I've truely believed in. The rest have just been punts mostly so I'm staying well clear of AIM and sticking to this. I can see this being a tenner again in the not too distance future. Either that or a fiver!
I may well be wrong, but yesterday I bought in at 722. , which is pretty much a low point for the last 12 months. Profits are forecast to rise next year, the P/E is falling, operating margins are rising, loans steady and RPC doesn't make drinking straws.
One way and another I expect to be RPC to make a modest contribution to my Christmas fund.
Been longer than a couple of days now. :-) What makes you think sustained fall is / was on the cards? Would be interested to hear. All best. FC
LSE data is not showing 2 new RNS TR1s. IIs are Goldman Sachs and Eminence Capital.
Phaps this give the SP a push forward
Hope this a cue to get out of the £6.8s and back into the £8,5s +
A couple of days?
Seems to be coming back nicely. Always best not to think all is doom when shares dip over a couple of days. Longer term view is always best.
You guys could be buying sooner rather than later by the looks of it :(
Agree furrycoat. I sold recently at 6.95. Happy to buy around 620s too. One day this will be 1000p+, but not for along time yet.
Blip caused by DS Smith / sector sentiment. Super buying opportunity. Will buy more but only if we fall to £6.25 or so. Very comfortable here.
There's only one way this is going at the moment. Any way back for this? Past 6 months have been horrendous!
At 6.95. On it’s own this price is a bargain. Factor in potential takeover of RPC its an extraordinary price. Now have 8200 or so shares. Strong Buy.
irm. I guess some analysts don't understand this company. Analysts have questioned the acquisitions but little praise for the advancement. The statements in the accounts post a really positive picture which will be seen to be good for shareholders LT. ST cashflow blip and phaps organic growth less than expected - just look at EU - growth?.
