The bottom line is that if the delivery staff across the country go on strike for one day RMG will struggle to do much more than make deliveries of Special Deliveries, manage collections and deliveries to key customers and Post Offices, and keep the airport operation for inward international mail at Heathrow going.
Trying to mobilise for much else for strikes of one day duration is a probably a pointless and expensive exercise.
So, going back to agency staff.
3 attended today, 4 hours each, and took out 31 parcels.
I think Simon is going to need a bigger workforce.
We've also got 7 extra vans on hire.
If this goes ahead it will be disastrous. Over to you Mr Thompson.
At the other end of the scale, a Tesco delivery driver has just hit £20k p.a with a recent 7% rise, with the Store Manager on circa £100k. Don't worry, management is beavering away at getting more productivity out of them for that rise. Overtime, Nights and Sundays are paid at a 1.25 basic rate.
I can remember a certain Prime Minister encouraging people to buy their own homes and the Chancellor of the Exchequer promptly raising interest rates to 15%. No one got pro-rata wage rises then.
I'm afraid that this country, along with the USA, is being run by Lefties at all levels and departments, regardless of a Right-wing government in power. where you have good actors/liars getting more in benefits than a lot of people get for working full time, what chancve have you got?
Mr Smith, I see where the confusion is :). He's been working for Royal Mail for nearly 30 years but has 'recently' become a Dad so the school run is now part of his routine. Then again, based on the standards of modern 'education' it wouldn't surprise me if kids will soon need collecting well into their 20s. Without a phone telling them where to go and what to do I imagine they would just stand on the street corner looking confused until their parents turn up to point them in the right direction.
The main point is that he's had a 'routine' for nigh on 30 years with little change in the grand scheme of things. To now be asked to completely change his sleeping patterns and working hours is similar to telling an office worket they are going to have to start at 1100 and finish at 1900, it wouldn't be feasible.
If you're a postie, you know changes have to be made because compared to your 'competitors' (from a management perspective) there's more meat on the bone to take off. They'll take it whether you agree or not so I hope a compromise can be reached or some of the worst aspects of how your 'competitors' operate will soon become your new reality. I mentioned in a post a few days back about my time at Amazon, trust me, you don't want that, you just don't. When was the last time you heard of one of your postie colleagues getting sacked on the spot? Well it happens often in Amazon and other firms and if they can't find a reason to sack you they'll either pay you to leave and/or 'manage' you out using tried and effective methods, none of which are very nice.
All the best
Perfectly doable if he is a grandfather. "his kids & grandkids"
Spot on Tygra. I will add that most agency for driving come from pertemps and delivery from any agency they can find to supply anyone.
Your postie cousin has been picking up his kids from childcare for over 30 years. :)
Tygra very good post. Lots of common sense in there.
Angard is owned by and part of Royal Mail Group. Just like GLS, it has different conditions etc and operates as a standalone entity but it is part of the parent group as a zero hours option to backfill when necessary. Other agencies do get used on occasion and that is where the additional cost comes from. A number of Angard workers (in Warrington at least), won't accept shifts if their 'mates' who wear red polo shirts go out on strike. Some of this is through perceived 'pressure', some through some sort of misplaced camaraderie.
A lot of Angard staff have been there for many years and have never been offered even a part-time contract, which is quite shocking considering some of them know everything about how the mail centre operates. They have no guaranteed hours and have to 'apply' for a shift via an online booking system that can (an does) cancel their shifts on short notice, sometimes close to 2 hours before the shift is due to start. There are many Angard workers who would love to have Royal Mail terms and conditions and your management know this so hopefully you can read between the lines here.
I can't offer any opinion on the Delivery set up as I've never done it but my two cousins who are posties voted to strike and will do so. The main issue for one of them is the proposed changes to the working times in winter particularly. He needs to know roughly when he will finish for childcare reasons, being told he needs to go back out on another walk because it needs to get cleared isn't going to wash. To potentially finish after 4pm is no good to him, that's why he's a postie, he gets in very early and finishes in time to pick the kids up. He's done it for nearly 30 years so naturally such a big change to a relatively set routine is unreasonable (I agree).
There's good and bad in every deal, I hope you all agree to 'something' and don't end up 'managing' yourselves out of a job (that's the management's plan, as old as time itself and very easy to spot based on countless examples in other industries).
Good Luck to you all.
Arsewipe surely you can do better than that. Dinosaur, which one?
Brilliant Teslo , that must have taken you ages to think up or did your carer write it for you. Sounds like someone is jealous that posties get shares 30% cheaper plus freebies.
Dynamofc firstly let me qualify it somewhat. In one of my roles I had a manager who had monthly meetings with Angard as perhaps you dont know agency are used in many parts of the business so I know how they work. My undertsanding is where we cant be supplied directly via Angard they go out to other agencies ie sub contract. We have been doing this for years and Angards costs are baked into RMG accounts.
The point I was making was we do not incur any fees via Angard if you can show me where we do I stand to be corrected. Of course all resource comes with costs, adverts, interviews, training etc etc. Not sure what your issue is re using Agency as we have done this for decades.
Bottom line is the business will save £100'sk via not paying if some of this goes on agency and any associated costs still massive savings and any surplus will probably be used to keep them on or pay for some overtime to clear any backlogs although I know this was frowned upon after any previous IA.
Teslo the guy is not in the real world not worth engaging with Dinosaurs !
No offense Dynamo, if breathing wasn't an automatic subconscious behaviour , I'd really fear for you.
I'm surprised you can actually make it through the day.
Agency workers will cost as much and do maybe 60% of the work in the same time as a regular postie. More likely, we will come back to 2 days worth of mail which will take about 2hrs longer to deliver, for which the managers will pay overtime to have a clear office. Posties will probably do this to make up a bit of money from the day before. Striking on the whole will actually save royal mail money. Doesn't usually harm our reputation either. Hopefully the posties who strike will also not go over to clear it in subsequent days. That's the only way strike action will work.
Or they by shares even cheaper teslo
Redceo . Explain your Karma meaning sad sack. You were going to hound me off this board previously but it never happened even using your multi posting names.
Keep it coming.
All those employees that voted to strike whom also hold shares defy logic.
As the price goes down they will lose even more.
You really can't make up how dumb some people actually are in reality.
Enjoy.
Red I’m afraid the guy has become the latest Selfish Militant to take up the Cause ,Pathetic
He's just looking to stoke the fire JB. I shan't accommodate him.
Not stressed at all JB , I enjoy calling out bull shutters on here. You have changed your tune so many times. Keep it coming , every time you do it I'll call you out. So you are still claiming that agency workers come at no cost even though most are coming from other agencies than Angard.
Dynamofc you sound really upset. I said we dont pay any additional fees its all accounted for within the business as we own Angard. Check on the RMG website as I do the number of vacancies has reduced. I cant speak for your own office as it seems to have the worst of it on all counts.
I pride myself on being honest and your personal attacks show how weak whatever argument/opinion it is you are trying to push here is.
As I said previously I have no issue with any employees or CWU I am just giving my views on the business position. Maybe you should open your mind to other opinions and facts.
If you are so unhappy with your lot and what the business are doing to you maybe consider what other opportunities you could have elsewhere as you sound really stressed and being genuinely honest that is not good for anyone.
Dynamo for you come across as a Militant Bitter Selfish Individual who really has No believe in the Private Sector , why don’t you go and work somewhere else as they are an awful lot of good posties out there unfortunately your not ,a let down to good hard working employees !
Dynamic. This is my last interaction with you by repeating show my use of the words "death and illness"
JB , You were saying at no extra cost. Now you change your tune and say short term loss. Your clueless , spouting pie in the sky facts and figures.
We use Angard at no costs. Your words not mine.
Vacancies being filled , not true , your words not mine . Like many on here your full of false statements .
