But how do RM get paid for the extra time and effort collecting them from houses rather than the customer posting them?
Its definitely a tracked service . We actually go to the doorstep , knock the door and collect the tests from the customer. They place them in a bag , seal it and the driver drops them with the manager . He gives them to the next lorry driver heading for the mail centre. Not sure if the special post boxes are still being used due to length of time it was taking to get results due to customers posting after boxes collected. Our office does covid collections on a sunday from houses , so small extra cost involved from that.
Oligarch ah revenue protection/control what a task they have but do save millions over the years, always chancers trying it on. Thankfully with the controls in place things have improved but yet another area with scope to tighten up and bring more money in. I recall one major mailing house who constantly tried it on particularly with multiple postings over a number of days. From memory I think we eventually virtually closed them down or demanded payment up front and that was back in late 80's.
Re Covid tests they will be getting paid for it and the pictures here suggest its a tracked service and will be scanned and counted and billed back. Fairly straightforward delivery and returns service which we operate for many customers. I would think most office will see some of these over the period.

200iq, Dynamofc, we have been delivering charity items for free for years. We also deliver millions of letters every year for free due to software malfunctions and billing failures on the machinery and then there are the underpaid oversized cards at Christmas etc that aren't surcharged plus the reused unfranked stamps and the fake meter mail. Why change now...lol
If so how do RM get paid for the extra work involved? Or are they doing it for free?
It seems that Royal Mail have been given the contract to collect covid tests from households , until at least January. I would guess this is a very lucrative contract .
