Oligarch that is truly terrifying if they dont get it in work what are they doing outside? I had to go out for our weekly essential shop and had an eejit actually barge into me to get to an item on a shelf, I did lose it for a moment I think the few choice Scottish swear words got the message over.
I need to sign off but wish everyone all the best and keep safe and healthy.
madasballoon I heard about that D2D customer and sounds crazy, I am not sure we would have incurred much in the way of costs. I don't know what stage it was at - on route to DO's or whatever but doesn't make sense.
Oligarch, Thanks. Ispy I saw that process in comms a few days and now just repeated on RMTV. I know some offices are very cramped that's why I thought the suggestion of doing alternate walks/days would have helped. in some areas. I honestly think both sides dont know what to do for the best. But it truly is very straightforward IMO get as many people out of the firing line but that has become more difficult by being classed as key workers and expected to deliver important items/mailings. I think there must be a very small number of items that are time critical ok medicines, covid tests and similar.
JB, sadly there are about 40% of the staff that just don't get it and give you really funny looks when you try to maintain the distance. I had to tell one of my co-workers to back off yesterday and he asked me why? I don't think that some members of staff realise that this virus is as deadly as it is. Anyone who has suffered from asthma will attest that loss of breath is frightening and this is much worse.
On a positive note, my line manager has told me to leave the work area if I'm not happy and agreed to pay for my T&S if I have to travel to another office but don't want to take a pool van.
@ Oli G. JBT.
Seen an email suggesting that all D2D's are prepped on Monday, and you deliver with live mail only. Should there be any left in the frame these can be rolled over until the following week.
The 2 metre rule is just not possible to enforce in my office. If you're all standing still, fine.
But that is not possible as you walk around doing your daily job.
JB, I haven't seen a reply from RB. He may reply via RMTV or email. If I see anything, I will post it here.
Oligarch that's bonkers and I am not saying the early manager should not be following the same standard, he/she must. But do the posties not insist on imposing this themselves?
JB well it is more than that. The majority of the company's that we were delivering this for are closed for obvious reasons. When one firm contacted RM to cancel the posting they said they would do it but would charge them the full rate for doing so so it was then delivered. This is the Company that cares not only about its employees first and foremost but also its customers. Despicable shocking he has to go and so do the board
@ HeresHopin.
Wow!!!
Now that really is funny.
Would it be funny if mad or myself gave you, your wife or your children (assuming you're not a virgin) this virus.
Please answer
Oligarch thanks for posting, I am sure most people get the importance of the D2D service and how it helps support the USO plus the important government information mailings, but surely some businesses must be thinking twice about going ahead and maybe the 35% reduction is an indicator of this. However I really can't see the sense in delivering some postings which most, including the vast majority of recipients will see as being unessential. Surely as resource is reducing the offices must be prioritising anyway? Have you seen the written response comments from Rico?
HeresHopin, one of the biggest issues is the 2 metre rule. Our early shift manager 40 years RM) doesn't seem to understand or enforce it whereas our night shift manager (15 years as a manager at ToysRus) is absolutely hot on this even for couples that cohabit. I can see future issues for the early shift manager especially if staff become ill.
Royal Mail's reply on WhatsApp at 18:41 was;
The latest RMtv programme focuses on the continued importance of our Door to Door product - for the business, for colleagues and for customers. Hear from Simon Barker on the operational changes we've made, too. Share this link with your teams: https://vimeo.com/403007756
This was released by the CWU on WhatsApp at 17:43 today.
The meeting with the Royal Mail Group’s senior management team took place today and we discussed the CWU proposal to create an emergency network in response to the growing Coronavirus pandemic.
The CEO, Rico Back, chose not to attend the meeting. However, he subsequently wrote to the union and regrettably he has failed to seriously address our proposal or the safety concerns of our members.
The following will summarise what the company stated at the meeting and the content of their subsequent letter:-
• Despite the increasing pressure on our members through growing sick absence/self-isolation, the company do not believe we need to alter national service standards to move to an emergency network.
• Royal Mail will not cease the delivery of D2D/advertising mail.
• Royal Mail will not change their sick absence process which is punishing innocent CWU members, many of whom who have suffered major illness recently.
• Royal Mail said during the meeting it is safe for you to work in your offices without the full provision of Personal Protective Equipment. Royal Mail believe washing hands is the ‘gold standard’ for safety and enough protection for employees.
• Royal Mail could not provide any information on how many offices have the necessary PPE in place.
• Royal Mail stated the safety concerns of CWU members are not widespread. They said their feedback from managers is much more balanced.
• Royal Mail have declined an offer to jointly approach Government on our proposal.
• The CEO confirmed that he does not wish to meet the union anymore during this pandemic.
It is clear to us that any progress that has been made on safety in offices across the UK has been delivered by the hard work of our representatives’ structure and we thank our Branches for this.
The response from the Chief Executive and from the senior management team in today’s meeting is totally unacceptable.
We are taking this opportunity to reiterate our previous position to all CWU members on health and safety in the workplace. This is set out below:-
If Personal Protective Equipment is not in place for all employees, or in any workplace, then that office should cease its operations until the equipment has been provided to all employees. This includes gloves and hand sanitisers.
If social distancing measures are not in place, in line with the Government advice (2 meters apart), then the office should be closed until this is rectified. Additional measures in this statement are designed to support the introduction of strict social distancing in every Royal Mail Group workplace.
Next Steps
It is clear to us that any progress that has been made in offices across the UK has been delivered by the hard work of our representatives’ structure and we thank our branches for this.
We will now take these matters up directly with the Government, the TUC and our legal representatives.
madasaballoon I am shocked at the business response today. I can see no reason why we should be continuing with a full service at this time. Some may argue that being an emergency service and key workers there will be an element of risk to what you are expected to do. I don't agree and certainly not without additional protection. I am sure the government will want the 32m D2D items delivered as they have also expressed the importance of the business being a critical link to the country. If the business had said that they were sourcing even more PPE but NHS were being prioritised perhaps some would have been a bit more understanding. The same message applies if people don't feel safe they don't work. Leaving it to individuals though is not ideal as everyone's circumstances are different. As things stand today I am disgusted with the business response, I will also review the letter Rico has put out to see his comments.
What did I say about Rico what have I always said about him. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and he certainly doesn't care about postal workers. The man is an utter disgrace and he should be removed from his position along with Shaun Davis. The Government will have to act on this or they are going to put themselves in an even worst light than today it is shocking absolutely shocking
