Net debt gone up from 470m to 1372m : - (
BBC havent cover story. Anyways if it falls today - the market is an utter fix. Definitely those results based on performance are very good...
produtivity increase 2.2%...
Exceptional results! 10/10 for beating my expectations...!
That dividend increase will have caught a few people out. have to admit i wasn't expecting an increase, lovely jubbly.
Fruitster, it's easy to put a net worth on RM but realistically it's hypothetical. For the foreseeable future there is very little concern that the business is in trouble and even if was there is absolutely no way that it would be allowed to collapse (unlike other previously state owned businesses) because as the judge recently pointed out it wouldn't be in the public interest.
@ Normal.
You'll have to ask the managers that.
My immediate concern if I was Mr Back, would be how much dead time all white collar workers have.
For example: A workmate moved to another office not too far from his original place. In his new office there were 15 more duties than his old one.
In his new office he had 4 managers, 2 wpc's and a dedicated person to deal with a/l.
In his old office there were 2 managers and 2 wpc's.
Too many or too little???

What do the shift managers do once they have got all the post "persons" out of the door. There are 5 hours to organize the following day, but cannot believe it takes 5 hours.
@ Oli G.
How long is a piece of string?
If we actually strike, the price will fall quite dramatically, IMO. From wherever it is at the time.
I cant work out what is or isn't priced in here.
IA isn't.
How much is RMG property worth?
If that's factored in that means the trading side is worth zilch.
Let's go back to flotation.
330p. Ridiculed at the time, but surely the property would've been factored in then?
If so, what value would've been attributed to the actual company without the property.
Not a great deal, IMO.
All in all, I would suggest that results tomorrow would have to be astounding to shift the price significantly.
Does anybody on this board know the current value of RMG's property?
And you also mentioned WCM. The biggest load of pants ever!! We had the head of WCM in our area actually drawing silly pictures and sticking them to the main sorting office walls.
It may have identified where costs could be saved, but the people we had heading it up should've been given some meaningful work to do. That would've saved a fortune.
And yes! Cost cutting starts with the white collar workers. So much dead time. Give them a pda.

I Spy, a good summarisation of Rico's tenure so far. You say that you don't see any upside, but do you think that we have reached the lowest point yet or is that still to come?
So 18 months in charge and Mr Back has overseen:
The decimation of the share price.
The decimation of the dividend.
The almost certainty of IA unless he gets back to the discussion table.
The goodwill being eroded from 80,000 plus posties.
The use of agency staff to further erode any profits.
And potentially figures in line with what has been predicted. So absolutely no upside anywhere.
I might sell my 81 shares and withdraw my weekly contribution for matching shares, and wait for a lower entry level.
@ Scamp. You're starting to sound like ScamptheDwarf. Which one of the 7 would you be?

The market is expecting low single digit parcel growth, letter decline 5-7% and productivity gains at least matching the 2% from May's final results. These numbers will be the barometer of how Thursday's results are received.
@ Scamp ( STD - Tee hee )
I totally agree with you mate. I would like a figure if anybody knows, how much it actually costs.
Yes, the payment to casuals is lower, but the overall cost is higher.
Some on here are deluded, and the fact is that RMG may have to use agency workers for a lot longer than they thought.
Thereby impacting on profits and of course the share price.
Now back to those figures!
I don't think it's even a toss of the coin. Parcel volumes will be down compared to this time last year. In My Opinion ONLY.

It might be right to say that Reed operate Angard, Isleworth...if you take a trawl through the internet you will find there is some evidence for suggesting this. However, point being, it does not really matter who operates them...whomever that agency is -- they still have to be paid! Like I stated last night (in so many words) it costs, on average, across an Angard workers various shifts, about £12.50 an hour (at least) to employ that person, so imagine how much you would have to pay the agency? Fruitster suggested several pounds over the hourly rate. Not a chance! I reckon you could double that...and even then add some. Whatever the amount...it is an awful lot of money.
