Typo French foreign
Redceo you are probably right but unless the signals are favourable I don't see the clear option for a GE, I doubt Labour will say yes lets go ahead but if they say no that strengthens Boris hand, bizzare to say but will Boris even win a vote of no confidence ? As you say the end of the current mess is hopefully coming closer. The consensus of the commentators is a GE needs to be the next step and just listening to an ex Frenchign minister saying maybe a very short extension a few days, would an extra week or two allow scrutiny or just more amendments to muddy the waters even further . A GE seems the most likely but not sure how we get there. Of course some additional work for RMG and hopefully an improving SP. Decent start to the day here and long may it continue.
JB. Can't see how Boris could accommodate LD. They want to overturn the Brexit vote.
Now talk of JC threatening to agree an election to put fear into those of his party who are calling for a second referendum before an election.
The ending of the complete mess which is HOC is drawing closer after years of astonishing dishonesty and self importance.
2020 will shed a new light but of course we will have to negotiate trade deals etc. We will of course have the improving SP as a comfort pillow.
Carrington you may well be right and the thought had crossed my mind and if that is the case their scenario planning must have filled a few rooms. I also agree with Redceo that the opposition will even try and thwart an election as they don't appear that confident. POD that is an option but I thought he (Boris) would maybe try and get Lib Dems on board as still a risk they wouldn't get a big majority. All to play for but let's just get a resolution almost the same as potential IA here let's get it sorted.
Also don't forget an election would see many MPs lose their seats due to changing parties and no by-election. Some have changed parties a number of times and also voted remain while representing? a leave constituency.
Typo "government can't get anything passed"
I have read such things. But is no deal the opposition's only worry. Why would they allow an election that will no doubt return a Tory government with increased seats. They are laughing at the moment because the government can get anything passed with the other parties working in unison.
Morning JB - I have a gut feeling that this has been planned out by BJ and DC - and played out to a public who are broadly sick and tired of the brexit debate, want a conclusion and are seeing someone being thwarted from achieving this at every available opportunity - suits BOJO down to the ground - plenty of people I know who previously voted remain who will now vote leave - as they see Labour/SNP/Lib dem as the opposition to democracy
dyor etc
Just reading a Labour minister has said the would agree to an election as no deal is off the table so that may well be the way forward. Earliest it could happen is Thursday 28th November.
Morning Redceo/All The Brexit debacle trundles on for another few days/weeks/months . No doubt a few more surprises along the way. I am not even sure he can get support for an election would need two thirds to agree and as an example the Lib Dems would only support if a 2nd peoples vote is tagged on. Think I will watch a few episodes of YES PRIME MINISTER as that normally has the answers and you get a laugh as well.
The Only sensible way forward is to vote in a government with a majority and stop this nonsense TM created.
Perhaps Boris will take his bill, shove it up Corbyn's (insert orifice of choice here) and go for a late November or early December election as he will almost certainly win with a decent majority. I fully expect the SNP to complain...lol
The bill passing is good news and markets should see it that way. However as Tusk is looking favourably on an extension the EU may agree. This will almost certainly cause problems with amendments being proposed to the exit bill. Either way the bill passing must be a positive.
In which case Boris could pull the bill and try for an election to boost his numbers. Still a way to go
It now looks like we may be offered a "flextension" until 31st of January.
How much longer can this debacle go on for?
It would serve us right if the EU put their foot down and said "you are leaving at the end of October..... Goodbye".
Redceo agreed and the key was the deal passed the 2nd reading the timetable will be amended but does open the door for all sorts of amendments
On and on yes, no deal or GE possibilities. However timetable could maybe extend scrutiny to a week instead of three days ?
Not yet dead in the water.
So it goes on............more delay or out on 31st
Round One to Boris Johnson: PM WINS first of two key votes on Brexit deal as MPs back his bill by 329 to 299 - but could still force a delay by torpedoing his 'do or die' timetable to leave the EU by October 31.
2nd vote this evening. Tomorrow will be a very BAD day if that is passed.
Yes JB we shall know this evening.
Redceo good news let's get the timetable through now.
Brexit withdrawal agreement passed with majority of 30
