The next giant leap: why Boris Johnson wants to ‘go big’ on quantum computing
The technology behind everyday computers such as smartphones and laptops has revolutionised modern life, to the extent that our day-to-day lives are unimaginable without it. But an alternative method of computing is advancing rapidly, and Boris Johnson is among the people who have noticed. He will need to push the boundaries of his linguistic dexterity to explain it.
Quantum computing is based on quantum physics, which looks at how the subatomic particles that make up the universe work. Last week, the prime minister promised the UK would “go big on quantum computing” by building a general-purpose quantum computer, and secure 50% of the global quantum computing market by 2040. The UK will need to get a move on though: big steps have been taken in the field this year by the technology superpowers of China and the US.
Peter Leek, a lecturer and quantum computing expert at Oxford University, says “classical” computing (the common term for computing as we know it) has been an incredible 20th-century achievement, but “the way we process information in computers now still doesn’t take full advantage of the laws of physics as we know them”.

Ooooh, Welcome aboard Boris, you have made the right choice in QBT haha.

I am slowly creeping towards my target holding, but still not quite there.
@musicman_999 I guess you are on the night shift too!? Yes we're in strange times right now and I'm not just talking about the economy. My views on the whole event we are currently and have been experiencing since March 2020 do not align with the mainstream narrative and I'll leave it at that as this is a bb for QBT chat!
We've seen this sort of economic 'hit' before... just try and treat it as a buying opportunity or wait a while for possible further drops. The Fed and global Central Banks will provide support to restablise the markets simply because it is in their best interests to do so. It's the same with interest rates... by all right they should go up BUT the aforementioned bodies cannot really do that as it will cause another collapse. They are in a right old pickle!
Good Night!

good shout... people should read the art of war to realise we are enemy now... climate change / green bashing, by the main media yet another example
good that qbt held today
Invested here and happy to be so but also the afore mentioned and fully expect great things from both. Imminently.

... considering the falls in global markets against the backdrop of the new 'Sorrybutwegonnahavetolockdownagain' variant of Covid-19. I follow 50 stocks in my UK portfolio and today has been as grim as any in a while. QBT holding up like it did proves that it is resilient and has a loyal group of shareholders who really do not want to let go of their stock. Good on them! Out of those 50 stocks in my UK holding... 38 are down...10 holding steady (QBT being one of them). 2 stocks are up... Asimilar and most notably Synairgen!
Not to crossramp here BUT Synairgen have a product in development currently going through trials (Phase 3 I believe) and yet it is still going through those 'trial' periods... which is only right. It is a great pity that the drugs supplied by Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca to our children is not subject to such vigorous testing. I guess if Antony Fauci were the CEO of Synairgen then this testing period would not be neccessary. Anyway that's a very different topic probably for another forum.
