Brendanor,
I agree with the logic of you response 100%, Ireland, the EU & Others need to assure their economic, food, energy, oil, gas & electricity, to guarantee essential commerce, food supplies & vulnerable peoples heating during the coming Winter.
However, I completely doubt that Eamon Ryan is the person to enable that, for ideological reasons.
While Ryan's reasoning is potentially right in the long term, with 2-3c temperature rises by 2050 & 20-40% animal & plant extinction and future hurricanes from Gort to Granard, we must deal with the immediate & save lives today.
New technologies might be developed to allow us to continue our wasteful ways, but it would helpful if everybody did their best to reduce their own consumption now
My view is that a FF & FG directed government collapse is the only honest route to a better future.

The Rochopper damages from the Italian government will also play a part in shaping public opinion
Donal b
I can see the logic of your argument
However energy security, lack of gas supply and an attack on agriculture is going to force the larger coalition partners to take control.
The energy regulator is exerting huge pressure on the government over the two aforementioned energy projects while senior government officials have recommended to the Minister that these licences be signed. These facts along with an energy security review expected to be published and hidden over the august weekend will force the issue.
It may take reasonably minded independents supporting government to keep Ireland’s lights on.
The European Commission are also going to exert influence, which they are already doing in private.
This was evident in the comments on hypocrisy by the commissioner in last Fridays Guardian.
Big players are investing for a reason. There is no smoke without fire !
It’s amazing how u feel u are a lot wiser than so of the major investors in this company including like him or not LG with a 16pc holding …then again these people love loosing money that’s why their RICH …get off the bus u clown before u post more idiotic messages
A lot of very smart & informative people share very useful information on the site, some others, not so much !
A thank you, in recent times to Swiss & Brenador.
However, the majority seem to forget Eamon Ryan's longstanding raison d'etre.
Ryan is a dyed in the wool ideologue & extreme green zealot.
He was made a complete fool of, over the Corrib gas field licence, he died politically for years but was reborn on the promise, that if in power again, that that would never happen again.
Now he hold all the power cards, either struggling FF & FG collapse the government & risk an election or he rules the roost.
If FF & FG collapse the government over Barryroe &/or a potential "money provision", they risk loosing to a SF, Left, Green & Independent coalition.
Alternatively, a FF & FG and Barryroe friendly Independant's coalition might remain in government for 2 1/2 more years & pass all the relevant licences.
That seems to be the best case for any Barryroe progress.
I believe that Barryroe is the very "Hamburger Hill" that Ryan is prepared to defend & if necessary die on, but in his case it might be better named "Veggie Burger Hill" !!!!

Contingency plans are starting to come together and it would not be a huge surprise that indigenous O&G resources that can be accelerated through to production effectively are being discussed, so whilst Ryan will have one view, the social and economic viability of the country will be firmly on the agenda of others, as each day passes and this crisis worsens, the stronger the political will to support Barryroe will become, plus the FG party will also be mindful that their turn at the head of the table is coinciding with what could potentially be the worst of the crisis and they will recognise decisions need to be taken,
I personally don’t believe it was a coincidence that one day Varadkar was suggesting funding support was holding up Barryroe and the next days a funding was completed in short order and a few days on, LG and Vevan stepped up to 16% of the equity, I would suggest it is more a question of when, rather than if now,..GL S
“Government sources said the worst-case-scenario planning is unlikely to come to pass, but there is growing anxiety about the winter ahead.”
There are also contingency plans in place for gas rationing. If Ireland was to be affected by serious gas shortages, similar rationing plans have been drawn up that would be divided between direct gas users and electricity users, as the power sector is a primary consumer of gas. Hospitals, schools and home heating would be prioritised.
The plans are being drawn up as part of work by the Government’s new Energy Security Emergency Group which is planning for potential oil or gas shortages in Ireland and examining modelling scenarios. The body has various subgroups looking specifically at gas security, oil security and communications strategies among other topics. The subgroups meet either every week or every fortnight and are made up of senior Government officials and industry figures.
Industry sources have privately expressed concern about the winter period ahead, warning that any sudden threat of a cut-off of Russian energy could result in panic buying among customers, which would create a supply shock. The National Oil Reserves Agency currently holds about 85 days of oil stocks.
Government sources said the worst-case-scenario planning is unlikely to come to pass, but there is growing anxiety about the winter ahead.

How are they getting away without an LNG terminal - irrisponsible wishy washy Governance!
The Dáil goes on summer recess from tomorrow lunch time. Menton's 90 days expires at the end of next week. AGM would normally be the following week but no date was mentioned in the annual report. The appointment of a new CEO could mean something is astir ... but definitely not holding my breath.
Great to hear there are no ‘potential famines’ on the horizon; the last one in 1847 was catastrophic !
Not to mention the small fact that the company haven't got a pot to pass in, and no potential famines were very excited by the previous well results.
Ryan is defacto aiding the Russians by sitting on the licence paperwork.
Another twist in the gas crisis and it wouldn’t be huge surprise to see the gas taking on increased importance at Barryroe,…GL S
Gazprom cannot guarantee good functioning of Nord Stream pipeline: statement
Russian energy giant Gazprom said Wednesday it could not guarantee the good functioning of Nord Stream, saying it did not know if a “critical” turbine engine would be returned from repair in Canada.
“Gazprom does not have a single document to allow (German company) Siemens to take out of Canada the gas turbine engine currently being repaired there,” Gazprom said in a statement.
“In these circumstances, it is not possible to draw an objective conclusion about the development of the situation and ensuring the safe operation of the Portovaya station — a critical facility for the Nord Stream gas pipeline.”

Orbilune, the original well was a simple vertical well, not suitable for production. In any case they can't go back to it or anywhere else without the lease undertaking they are looking for, and additional permits besides.
LET IT FLOW! LET IT FLOW!
DRILL THE OIL IN BARRYROE!
I realise that this post is rather simplistic but I don't understand why PVR can't just go back to the well they have already dug and tap into the ample flow rates that have already been demonstrated. Surely there must be at least one populist politician able to tap into the bubbling resentment of a population that is heartily sick of the patronising 'let them eat cake' approach of 'Minister' Ryan. If enough people DEMAND that Ireland uses its proven natural resources to ameliorate what is clearly becoming a national emergency NOW, then one man, no matter how intransigent, will be swept aside.
DUMB POLITICIANS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM
THE PROBLEM IS THE DUMB PEOPLE THAT KEEP VOTING FOR THEM
TS, not an ideal solution by any means, but at least the German Greens have recognised how precarious their situation is, unfortunately Ryan is still living in la la land and hopefully that is about to change imminently and Ireland can start to take their energy security seriously,…GL S
I see that the Germans are using barges up the depleted Rhine river from Rotherham to keep their country supplied.Trips of 800km are being run by the Germans while Barryroe is only 50km offshore Ireland.
Wow PS2,
it seems that Manmentia & DumbDrew have gone to ground after the 85 Vs 66 Government Confidence vote win.
Who could have possibly have predicted it :-) Oh yes, normally turkeys never got a chance to vote for Christmas.
I wonder how Manmentia will try to turn this around & continue his permeant pump & dump strategies, as he has been doing here for years & fooling the newcomers, with his 70% factual wrapped in 30% lies.

It is interesting that Goodman has come in as a major player. The issues haven't really changed for BROE though - they are looking for a license and €65m to prove it up. The problem is that it would take years to get BROE into proper production and the current problems will have passed within 12/18 months. The UK have said that Ireland will be treated as part of the UK with respect to continuity of gas supplies (even if they block the interconnectors to the continent) so the immediate threat is not so severe.
In practice therefore, I doubt all the hysterics will change much. Remember as well, if the Department issue a license, the first thing that will happen is a trip to court as the challenges come in....
Who knows, don't PVR still own the old Kinsale field, could that be used for storage? That might be the play.....
Sure don't we all agree....It's an absolute wee cracker this share?
The fact that you read and comment means they mean something to you. Otherwise you would not bother.
Makes me happy that you spend the time doing that. But if you had a real life, rather than sitting on your butt at a reasonable age, doing nothing, you might just find life has some real value.
But then, what would you know, thicko.
More press mentions:
Ian Guider in the Business Post: "Barryroe might be Providence’s last chance to strike it lucky. The oil prospector has been in business in one guise or another for 40 years. Will Barryroe finally repay investor loyalty or has government appetite for fossil fuel prospecting passed?"
Manyana: "I love the way you read my posts so assiduously and then comment."
No you don't. If you did, you'd be defending them against my claims of idiocy. But you can't.
It's a discussion board -- if you don't want your posts to be read, don't post. Like I said a long time ago, I won't engage with your childish jibes, but it needs pointing out when you make outrageously misleading claims about PVR as you are wont to do. Over and out.
Whilst Ryan dithers and hopes the wind will blow and a technological miracle will occur for green hydrogen, the EU are starting to face up to the harsh reality of what is just around the corner,..GL S
Risk of ‘conflict and strife’ in Europe over energy crisis, EU deputy warns
Exclusive: Frans Timmermans says short-term return to fossil fuels needed to head off threat of civil unrest
Europe is in danger of highly damaging “very, very strong conflict and strife” this winter over high energy prices, and should make a short-term return to fossil fuels to head off the threat of civil unrest, the vice-president of the European Commission has warned.
Frans Timmermans, the second most senior official in the EU, said the threat of unrest this winter, a deliberate outcome of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, must take precedence over the climate crisis.
He said: “If our society descends into very, very strong conflict and strife because there is no energy, we’re certainly not going to make our [climate] goals. We’re certainly not going to get where we need to get if the lack of energy leads to strong disruption in our societies, and we need to make sure people are not in the cold in the coming winter.
