As I've said before, it is not our place to justify whether the data will work. The fact is, if one or more wearable manufacturers is in discussions with Open Orphan about buying the data it implies that this due diligence has already been done by people far more educated on the matter than you or me.
It would not make sense for a wearables manufacturer to approach us for data unless they already has in place cause to believe that data is valuable for the intended purpose, unless you can think of a reason I have missed? Even if worst case it would be simply for them to test a hypothesis in the first instance, they would still need the data and would still need to pay for it.
I haven't "poo-pooed" the idea of wearables marketability Markshares, merely questioned the hyped up connection with OO's databases, which seems to be based on relatively limited interest reported so far. The description of the fitbit device tends to support that view: they don't even attempt to address COVID-19 specific data, their device just gives a vague warning something may be wrong based on data gleaned entirely from the wearer, using significant changes from a baseline. It is entirely possible that other devices may be more ambitious and require other data sources, especially if the market takes off, but it's unclear why or how they would do this. Rather than making sinister accusations of an "agenda", why not address the issue and try to make a convincing case why OO databases add value here. Happy to be proved wrong, unhappy to be accused of skullduggery merely for questioning hype.
Interesting that you have poo-pooed the idea since it was first mentioned, blahblahdoh, then as it looks like becoming a reality, you turn your negativity towards Open Orphan not being involved. It stinks of an agenda.
The fact is this article proves that the wearables idea does have some traction, gives a lot more credence to the idea we are speaking with competitors of fitbit, and that a deal for our data is a lot less unlikely than you like to suggest.
Very interesting to see what the FDA says about this. An impressive array of sensors and "machine learning", and some big claims about it's effectiveness from Fitbit. Personally I tend to know when my body gets hot, but definitely a market for this type of gadgetry. Seems to somehow function without a single piece of data from OO, however.
First mass appeal 'health watch' launching late September 2020.

Interesting to see how this market is developing and the potential for ORPH.
