"but how would they know whose finger got pricked? You could get a mate who is immune to do it..."
True, but anybody doing this who then mingles indiscriminately puts themselves in risk of developing Covid (I won't be as harsh to say they deserve to suffer during their illness). These test cheats could then spread the infection which is why anyone who is antibody negative will still have to socially distance to reduce their own risk.
I think the government should fully adopt the pregnancy test model - knock yourself out and buy as many home test kits as you like but once you have a positive test arrange for a supervised confirmatory test by an NHS approved provider (could be a GP, hospital, pharmacy).
if the test itself has a barcode visible on the face which the app OCR's then I dont think it can be cheated, the same test prohotgraphed twice will show up as void.
EkXoc - I guess everything can be fiddled - little is 100% But id hope that people fiddling results would be pretty much a minority. If they can work a way to get people to use the app for result and or a passport then im thinking it will get used (generally) honestly
Add to that they could have some form of policing - a random controlled test at say airports etc - with a big fine or even hanging if youve lied
Nothing stopping you taking anlother test few weeks later. I guess they could use blood type to make it harder but I doubt the test measures your blod type.
"but how would they know whose finger got pricked? You could get a mate who is immune to do it..."
There has to be a certain level of trust - and this could be backed up by significant penalties for cheating.
but how would they know whose finger got pricked? You could get a mate who is immune to do it...
Preefty "Positive" Lol
I suspect the logging of results on the app is more for analytics for the UK - your correct, to get a 'passport' would I imagine need a medical expert to take the test to prove it......
"I’m a web-developer by trade. I’ve had a quick look at the source code on GITHUB repository.
So, it looks like it’s an app that walks the user through how to take a blood sample, upload it and then get the result.
Steps involved start with “Check your kit”; I would assume: does your kit have all the bits.
Then there are app calls for “collect blood sample”, “prick finger”, “scan”, “wait”, “test complete”.
There’s also a reference to a TestKitID, so this is how they’d be able to tie the test to your phone. (I’m assuming it’s designed to be run on our phones.)"
Very similar to some of the apps that have been used elsewhere.
How can you prove that it was you that took the test though? I do wonder if this is what is holding it up. It seems that self use is easy enough and will allow sign off but for use with the app how can they check its your test and not someone else with antibodies doing it for you so you get a passport. Its possible that they eal with this with a legal discliamer ie a stiff penatly if you are found to be misusing the system much like you would get if you don;t self isolate .
I came to similar conclusions seeing evidence that you capture an image of the cassette test and it will advise you of the result. This would mean we can capture the data and people cant simply lie about a test result.
Was half tempted to contact one of the devs to be honest.
Further Analysis is the text from the Readme file in the GIT repo.
This application is for the end user who wishes to take an at home antibody test. As it stands, the application contains:
- A login to idenfity the user (currently placeholder)
- Some instructions to guide the user through the process
- A timer to ensure the user waits for the necessary time for the test kit to work
- A camera page to capture the image of the completed test kit
- A results screen for displaying the results to the user
This is from the NHSX Github - ### Testing the image checks
At the moment we are using a mocked api endpoint for the Machine Learning interpretation of the results. To test the UI handling of these responses there are some special login ids you can use. An id containing 'blur' will return the blurred image response. and id's containing 'over', 'under' and 'overunder' will return the relevant exposure responses. 'nocasette' and 'nodiagnostic' will return the responses for the ML model failing to detect the correct regions in the image.

This is interesting only because it outlines that this will be an AT HOME - CASSETTE BASED Antibody test.
Sound familiar?
