W&S.
I have a recollection of that too green.
Hi wilson. I hope that novacyt are looking elsewhere for a acquisition
Ages back there was an interview with Optigene on a southern news channel, the guy was saying he was worried about reagent shortages. Along with a quote of, 'we use the gold standard'. He was almost winking lol.
Gizmo555 I agree or can we buy them now they have the contract....almost old(March)
Collaboration. ....fastest covid test developed in baisingstoke now set to be rolled out across uk ......old
Good find Quickdraw, - we should be hearing of developments soon for this test from Hanc*ck & Raab.
B2HS2L In the Channel 4 interview the Basingstoke University team were very confident their test would pass. I'm assuming this confidence is based on them matching their Primerdesign LAMB results with Primerdesign PCR results.
See end of clip. Segment starts from 9 mins

I hope they make a better decision this time, and didn't pay up front.

After the experience that PHE / Govnt has had with the 'have you had it' Antibody tests and testing them, I would expect a certain level of caution before proceeding with LAMP, but it is what is necessary right now if it does what it says on the box.
B2HS2L, Optigene (equipment manufacturer) were planning to speak to PHE on 4th April.
In interview yesterday Michael Andreou, managing director of OptiGene said:
"The company hopes that after furnishing Public Health England with further data, its test equipment could be in use by next week"
They are not hanging around!!! :-)
I'm not sure how many units OptiGene currently has in circulation. Given they are a small company, can imagine they will need help in ramping equipment manufacture

Allah...you don't say....Question: Are the BOD of NCYT financially astute? Thanks...enough said
Pilgrim1 : "Partnering" can mean anything from lending help to being taken over. This term is meaningless without further precisions.
Thanks for the correction quickdraw, This press release for the Genie HT instrument is right up to date.
If there have been any representations to PHE / Govnt, I'm not aware of any outcome.

B2HS2L you've looked at the Oxford test and wrong company. Yes the Samba ii is a dud.
However Optigene's unit can run 300 tests and which was developed in Partnership with Novacyt. See below link :

Quichdraw,
Did some research on instrument capacity.
SAMBA II instrument has the capability to deliver 72 test results per day.
Useful technology, instrument too small for our needs.
other than they've said they partnered with them? Do you think Novacyt did that as purely a favour?
Primerdesign would have provided kits needed to perform benchmarks against their novel test.
Which would thus be a competitor, unless an agreement of sorts has been sealed.
From a different article:
#Primerdesign
#partnered
“We were in a fortunate position to be able to link with a local company in Chandlers Ford, PrimerDesign, who partnered with us to provide the testing kits needed and we are very delighted that we could join forces to make this a reality so quickly.”

Channel 4 interview with Dr Stephen Kidd and Dr Veronica Fowler. Watch from 9 mins on.
Few interesting comments.
1:15 is the current test time bench mark (wonder who that is?)
Towards end of interview Dr Fowler is asked about false negatives... she's absolutely no concerns as their test has been compared against the "gold standard" which is Novacyt. I belive it is safe to assume they are using a Novacyt kit.
https://youtu.be/PpZBke4j67k
I see no indication that Novacyt is involved other than having provided a few testing kits during the development phase.
Nice find Quickdraw, thanks for sharing.
Are you sure that this product uses our test kits as I see no reference?
Would be a game changer
5>20 min LAMP test "equipment could be in use by next week". Note it ues Novacyt kits and can process 300 tests an hour.
'OptiGene's molecular test could be rapidly deployed by the NHS around the UK to significantly increase capacity to diagnose the virus.
The company says that 300 patient samples can be processed in an hour on a single instrument and it is now in talks with Public Health England on rolling out the tests.
It follows successful trials carried out by doctors at Basingstoke Hospital in Hampshire to validate the test.
Michael Andreou, managing director of OptiGene, which has operated from it base in Horsham for the past 12 years, said the test “takes less time to complete than any equivalent method currently in use.
“This specific and extremely sensitive test can operate directly from nasal and throat swabs to produce results in less than 20 minutes.
“Unlike the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test that has already been deployed for diagnosing the virus, the OptiGene procedure uses isothermal LAMP technology that does not require expensive and time-consuming RNA extraction and is inherently much faster than PCR.”
He added that the test “has now passed validation and is ready to be utilised.”
He said that Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust were ‘on board with this’ and it was hoped Public Health England would start rolling out the new test to a number of hospital trusts before use by the NHS nationwide.
He said OptiGene - a joint venture with Horsham based company OptiSense and Camberley-based firm GeneSys - first began work on devising test equipment as soon as the virus DNA sequence data was released by the Chinese.
The new test is being run on a series of instruments, developed and manufactured by OptiSense in Horsham and is sold under the OptiGene brand and includes both portable battery-powered devices as well as a larger high-throughput model.
The company hopes that after furnishing Public Health England with further data, its test equipment could be in use by next week'.
