If you want some stats ill assist.
1) when the UK was hitting 40000 cases a day we were at 1500 deaths a day!
2) India yesterday had 250000 cases in one day!
3) the Indian variant is far far deadlier than other strains seen so far!
4) the Indian health service is no where near as good as the NHS so the proportion of deaths to those admitted will be far higher.
5) so from the 250000 we would be expecting 9000 deaths per day within 2 weeks in India!
6) the numbers in India are growing exponentially!
7) my view is India will see upwards of 400,000 deaths in the next 6 weeks alone!
So to conclude the gov WILL take this variant seriously and there WILL be a huge amount of PCR surge and ongoing testing to keep the numbers low in the UK. Unfortunately I think the horse has already bolted as far as the Indian variant is concerned!
Oriens , you are welcome to believe what you want. I am just sharing my opinion on the forum. I am under water like most of us here but there needs to be moderation of extreme opinions. I don’t think the Indian variant will affect covid stocks much. I never said the fundamentals of novacyt have changed.
Wilson, yes they did mention. They had 6 deaths a day and they were not allowed to publish it. The worldometer site deaths reports is not accurate . People who die in hospital are recorded but people who test covid positive , get better and pass away at home are not recorded . If people have an underlying condition and die with covid, the cause of death is recorded as the underlying condition. The government is instructing hospitals to do this .
Anyways guys to each their own. I’ll respond if you have any specific questions. I lived in india for most of 2020 and only returned back to the U.K. last month. I am very close to the details there .
Agreed top slicers will be popping in here next...
Taking into account all things Wilson I think you are correct.
DR Kaeren lol
Morning Kaeren I think we may see some money coming over in the next couple of days by those wiser types that actually take profits at times . It's an interesting watch of market dynamo this morning.
To all I was thinking of going to India in June, but had several calls from friends, who said please don't come. Spread is getting out of hand and the figures we get from Indian Gov, are nothing like what they are in real term.
Wonder how many countries have current tests that can detect this Indian ‘Double’ variant?
There are 4 - 5 Billion people in Middle East + Asia, so if this spreads as quickly and powerfully as being mentioned, many countries could coming knocking.
Already it has doubled here in less than a week, how many cases in India this week alone? 1.5m?
Levincool did your contact in India comment on all the unfortunate people without the vaccines who passed away? It's just got mechanical this.
Wow I also have a contact in an Indian hospital and they said they are EXTREMELY WORRIED about the variant, they also said the numbers we are being shown are far lower than the actual numbers through the country, very scary!!
Kevin, you don't know that at all! Depends how old you are, pre existing medical conditions, how many jabs you have had, what vaccination you had, and at the end of the day your own dna and genetic makeup! So go and deramp somewhere else.
Guys, just FYI. People who had the vaccine and catch the Indian variant have mild symptoms - I got the information first hand from an Indian hospital. I don’t think the market would react to this variant because it’s priced in the vaccination campaign.
Testing will still be required.
India goes on the red list Friday. Talk about delayed reactions once again!!
Overly concerning reports out that the Indian Variant can not only spread rapidly as is happening in India but may be able to escape the vaccine antibodies.
Prime minister Cancels India Visit due to the Variant and India moves to Red Status.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-56800305
“India has been reporting more than 200,000 cases daily and has been added to the UK's "red list", meaning people returning from there must quarantine in a hotel for 10 days. The PM said he would instead speak to his counterpart Narendra Modi online.”
However, worse is that yet again, due to our own lax border control the Variant is already in the UK with 182 cases identified
https://news.sky.com/story/is-the-indian-covid-variant-more-infectious-and-should-the-uk-be-concerned-12280387
“Some mutations can make the virus more infectious, deadly or resistant to vaccines. The Indian virus is one of those - especially because two mutations have come together to help infect cells and evade the immune system”.
“It is doubling every week, as did the Kent variant when it was detected in September but is doing so under "much tighter restrictions and more vaxxed people", she said”.
We will need to see how this one unfolds but its looking likely it will be shortly classified as a VOC along the same lines as the SA Variant.
Another reason why highly accurate Testing is absolutely essential.
