In my experience decisions are not always rational. With the facts available to me I would back Novacyt but at the same time there is a glaring absence of an RNS's saying PHE has done the same.
As you say there are 3 tests recommended by PHE are our communications with the government as a company as effective as they should be. I have not seen anything to date that gives me confidence that they are.
So who else is in there competing for our share?
I've backed 3 shares Novacyt is one of them but I feel the gains here are slowing as the picture evolves.
Eh? Why would you back GDR something that isn't even ready or tested. Novacyt really have the government bent over a desk right now, the government (horrible to say but even if it is a token order or something) are going to have to increase/respond/order from novacyt - they cant slate the product as over 21 nhs hospitals use it and it is one of only 3 to be recommended by PHE plus all the fdas and 80 countries use it. The government should realise that if novacyt release another rns eg US sales or something before they act, the abuse/criticism hurled at them is going to increase 10 fold.
Perhaps they have backed a different horse already and are awaiting trial results. GDR being plausible.
If they are back of the line with NCYT it may not be a clear cut decision as it appears to us investors.
I second earlier comments that our marketing directors attack at the government could do more damage than good.
And just as a reminder from the last stonking RNS from the company (of which there have been quite a few over the last month or so ) :-
Manufacturing capacity
Further to the announcement on 12 March 2020, Novacyt can confirm its manufacturing partner, located in mainland Europe, is BioType Diagnostic GmbH (BioType). BioType, based in Dresden, Germany, is making excellent progress in scaling-up manufacturing and the first batches of product have been delivered to Primerdesign's Southampton site for final assembly. In addition, the Directors have taken the decision to increase the level of output contracted with BioType, which, combined with the capacity from Southampton, will enable the Company to produce more than 4 million tests per month.
Seriously what is happening here and the UK is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries in the world !!!
As I have said for weeks, it is time for the government to approach novacyt and say "right what do we need to do for you to enable you to make us millions of test kits asap for the nhs". if this means seconding/securing even more external manufacturing so be it. If they want to use our expertise to evolve the testing so be it. if they want us to work with a major so be it You throw the kitchen sink at it, now is not a time to be to proud, make the call, bring novacyt "in house" so to say.
I know the government say they don't have the labs etc. but it is time to bring on board all the university spaces, resource etc. if germany can be doing so much testing then so can we.
Ive emailed my MP about this , the country should be getting what they need from Novacyt or a UK firm , and if theres not enough capacity the government should ramp up thier manufacturing facility to suit the countries needs as happens in any other war time or crisis period
I have now seen links from france, usa, Czech republic, all over uk, asia - all reporting the exact same thing how we the UK don't have enough test kits yet we have novacyt and they are selling to over 80 countries worldwide. It is embarrassing that the uk government is being laughed at, that on their own doorstep they have the kit producer/provider. The government now has to act fast and quick.
Sorry, it was a joke made in bad taste
yes I was not aware that they were in use yet! I am sure it would receive huge coverage
Onlyway ... re "I disagree about the Dyson ventilator, my mate was on one and picked up a treat!"
I didn't think that DYSON had a medical approval to release / sell his ventilator yet???
I'm hearing similar stories here in the South West plenty of PPE and bed capacity, staff bracing themselves very much calm before the storm.
The reality is ...I am not on the front line. I am just doing what I am told because it is the best option. My daughter is very close to it at the moment and physios like doctors and nurses have a big part to play in saving lives and making sure that when people do recover they have a life worth living. Protocols, PPE and capacity are a lot more important than testing as far as I am being told. Keeping the otherwise fit and healthy out of hospital has been the governments policy and I agree with that.
I'm not point scoring JD just expressing my opinion, I am hearing very different stories to yours from the front line. However I trust your feedback is genuine and guess at this stage much depends on where you happen to be stationed.
And I bet there wasn't a speck of dust left on him!
Lp160606, Just for your figures, Re. testing, Wife 'no' but only manager, middle daughter 'no' Staff Nurse.
My daughter is a physiotherapist....who has been moved to the suspected CV ward to assist with respiration. She has all the PPE she needs and is happy with the protocols she has been asked to follow. She has not been tested yet. Nurses and doctors on the ward have been tested first. My cousin is a senior nurse and is on CPU, she has the equipment she needs and has been tested. They both haven't got time to listen to people point scoring. They are gearing up to be very busy.
I disagree about the Dyson ventilator, my mate was on one and picked up a treat!
I also wouldn't want to be on a Dyson ventilator, bet they'll look fantastic but.........
Also don't forget the EU ventilator procurement scheme that we chose not to join. Remember Dominic Cummings is at the heart of everything in government and decisions are being made on ideological grounds not what is best for the country. I genuinely think they thought it would play well politically to mobilise all these companies to start making ventilators rather than go for the more efficient option, Dunkirk spirit and all that sort of thing.
JohnHenry, how do you know that Germany have got it right. Only time will tell. They are a couple of weeks behind the uk in terms of the spread. Italy , France and Spain all tested more in the early stages. Brought people into hospitals that should have been at home and look at the terrible state they are in. You either trust that we have the best scientists in the world or you dont.
Yes, but you are equally speculating yourself.
You mention family members work within the NHS. Have they been tested at all?
Genuine question by the way, not in any way trying to have a pop
Rainbird3 so wrong. Do you think all the 20% of frontline staff contracted the virus from patients. They contracted it like the rest of us in the pub, in the restaurant on a bus ,in a shop. Social distancing is working. PPE is required of course it is, but I give up with trying to talk to a bunch of politically motivated idiots.
Only going one way and that's up, forget the DM hack's stupid article we need tests by the millions it's as simple as that.GLA
VanV yes. Working on it. Deadline?
jacksD ...early testing would have protected the front line staff from nearly 20% falling sick as would proper PPE ... they did get both spectacularly wrong ... and it will cost precious lives .
