no worries Hartlebury, its a very interesting twist in the COVID story and explains why sequencing and understanding variants are so important. Its going to take a great global effort not just initially but a continued effort to stay on top of all of this.
I'd like to think novacyt can be part of not just the UK effort but also the global effort. Would be nice if the UK can view novacyts efforts as a success story and share that on the global stage. I know boris is looking to use his G7 presidency as a way of highlighting the need for a more global response. Ideally would like to see us being part of a support package through Unicef/WHO funded by richer nations to support nations who either aren't or cannot adequately fund their response.
So sorry, just realised I x posted with ak gabba!
This was suspected quite a while ago B2, when Manaus, which was so hard hit first time around that it was believed that herd immunity would have been achieved, then got hit even harder by second wave towards the end of last year, the obvious explanation was that immunity from 1st infection was not helping fight the new variant.
Thanks for your reply ak_gabba, - will be studying the links.
B2HS2L, yes its been spoken about quite a bit. Manaus was thought to have been reaching herd immunity due to how badly it was hit during the first wave so it came as quite a surprise when some of the previously infected also became ill again. and that is why they are surge testing - Handjob now addressing the pubelic as if mental age of 3.75 - gets me so cross that present themselves as a VERY INTELLIGENT group of poeple !!
Well they can't claim to have been at home with their slippers on watching the news with a cup of tea can they?
His new buzz words are genomic sequencing. Last week's talk did the trick.
that person must have infected along the way.... Hand**** says they stayed at home....yeah right !
His name wouldn't be Dominic Cummings per chance?
He might have been related to or a friend of an MP.
Passage from this Brazil Covid Variant article:
"International concern about the P.1 variant has escalated in recent weeks as more than 25 countries have detected it, including Belgium, Sweden and the UK. Research released this week found that the strain is up to twice as transmissible as some others and is able to evade immune protection from prior infection. "
I knew it was twice as transmissible, but not that it was able to evade immune protection from prior infection.
Has anyone read this elsewhere at all?
Hopefully a heavy fine and a custodial sentence for disobeying the covid rules.
I'd revoke their passport as well.
troublesome, -
I cannot hazard a guess how much it cost to track this person down, nor how many manhours required.
Took long enough !
Mr X or Patient X, I believe - why the secrecy ?
