Latest UKHSA government guidance for potential monkey pox case testing .
PCR !
Actions on a possible or probable case
Test for monkeypox (using designated testing pathway).
Undertake additional contemporaneous tests to rule out alternative diagnoses if clinically appropriate and if not done already.
If admission of patient required for clinical reasons, admit to single room isolation at negative or neutral pressure at local hospital site with RPE PPE (with appropriate IPC arrangements).
Or, if patient not requiring admission for clinical reasons: self-isolation at home (based on assessment by the clinician and following UKHSA guidance).
Or, if patient not requiring admission for clinical reasons but self-isolation at home is not possible for social or medical reasons following clinician assessment: isolation in single room at negative or neutral pressure at local hospital site with RPE PPE pending test result (prioritise probable cases).
Confirmed case
A person with a laboratory confirmed monkeypox infection (monkeypox PCR positive).
Very early stage signs of catching this are:-
You find you can start eating Bananas with your feet, which is fairly useful
It can make your Arse go Red, not so useful
Joking aside, it is obviously bloody serious if you get it, something else to deal with and yes, i totally agree. Wont be visiting the Congo anytime soon..
I love bananas with total yogurt and honey for brekkie and in milk shakes , hope that's not indicative of anything . A dose of that would be unbearable. Why now ? It's been around for ages , wonder if folks immunity is screwed by covid and that's why the liver issues in the kids.
It strikes me a lot of the latest variants and now this originate from one country. Of course not politically correct to say so but it's the truth. Won't be dashing off on a safari any time soon :( :(:(
Apologies for the grammar my.typing is shi#te..
UK government has secured 250 million bananas, to tackle the impending monkeypox epidemic, bananas will be used as a test to see if people have developed an increased appetite for bananas, if so a seven day course of bananas ?? will be prescribed by their GP's..
As we are badging ourselves as a global first responder, are we/should we be expecting to see an RNS this coming week regarding a Monkeypox test?
The only difference between contracting Monkeypox and Camelpox is with the latter you get the hump...
Exactly what I thought sharestack ;)
Camelpox and Monkeypox are of the same family, the test either works or requires a small tweak?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthopoxvirus
Thank you byp... Monkeys in cages eat bananas... Go to the start.....bats ..mink.. monkeys...
Nearest test I found on that list is camelpox.
Since the WHO are investigating and making people aware of this virus and the work we have done with them in the past I would be very confident that we have been asked to respond with a test .
Isn’t it a shame that our dhsc order of extra Q machines aren’t already out there in hospitals ,doctors surgeries and community centres all ready to deal with and hopefully eliminate this new threat , simply by adding one of our tests with results in minutes and not days .
More government mismanagement .
if you search on the genesig website for pox you get results but not for monkeypox
https://www.genesig.com/search
as mentioned by saintsmith this is in line with what DA has been saying about zoonotic and airborne threats . it's also in line with being a first responder
...as yet!
Search for Monkey or pox on Novacyt website doesn't return anything...
I seem to remember almond mentioning of more zoonotic and airborne threats for future pandemics in last presentation and how important it is to be prepared for them .
We have a genesis test for camel pox but I can’t see one for monkey pox or mpxv yet .
However if they are needed I would like to see our laser focus on been global responders in coordination with the WHO on developing one .
They are detected using PCR technology .
Time to get busy Novacyt team .
I’ll throw you up a banana
Hi byp... The monkey sits in the tree.... Hope you well
Is Oxford Nanopore sp increase this week due to MonkeyPox?
Hmmm , I would imagine the big boils all over your body might be a give away that you have monkey pox or something similar . Not sure I would need a test to tell me .
Obviously early days but if it does spread more, then testing and in particular PCR testing will be in the limelight again. See link from WHO in particular
"Detection of viral DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the preferred laboratory test for monkeypox. The best diagnostic specimens are directly from the rash – skin, fluid or crusts, or biopsy where feasible. Antigen and antibody detection methods may not be useful as they do not distinguish between orthopoxviruses. "
