I am sure the Chinese stance on the situation was VERY pro active. Surprising how low the numbers were in the country of origin. Methinks human rights may have been infringed more than a little. Here in the Western world, testing is the way to go. It would just be ironic if it continues to be made in China, time to make our mark.
Of course its the B1.617.2 India variant that seems to be of most concern and more contagious.
Not sure whether the countries that have performed best against the virus took an early "aggressive stance " but just a more sensible one in light of the fact some were island nations and others much better prepared to deal with a pandemic through proper investment and previous experience - certainly far more proactive and saving thouisands of lives as a result.
Not my texte but very good summary by newsformsresearch :
Summary of NovaTalk:
Good view points of SA, Brazil, America/Canada and UK. SA and Brazil not in great shape, America cases are flattening, with cases increasing in pockets.
P1 and B1351 both obviously more transmissible, but may both also have high reinfection potential. This however is hard to assess due to limited testing or tests no longer being available. People carrying these strain's for longer with a higher contagious period. So without boarder control there is no managing it.
Due to longer contagion periods even with border controls it is a challenge to stop some variants from being imported. Even counties such as Australia and Vietnam are seeing imported cases. Some cases being detected on day 13.5 of 14 of hotel quarantine (some transmission has happened within hotels).
44 clusters of B.1.617 (Indian) in UK and its surging. (Since announced as a VOC).
Brittany (French) variant, mentoned, but only in reference to all being quiet as it's escaping detection. (Why haven't Novacyt announced assay? Novacyt previously stated their PCR detects variant).
Increased vaccination levels can add to selection pressures, causing it to find ways to polevolt these pressures. Until high vaccination levels and low case numbers the chances exists for variants to escape some of protection provided by vaccine.
Her immunity was dangerous, look at Sweden now. Used be used as an example by anticovid people but now in a terrible state. An early aggressive stance as adopted by Korea, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore worked much better.
£25m recently added for genetic sequencing.
Global solidarity is essential if we want to get anywhere.
Repeat regular testing is essential in staying on top. Rapid testing won't end PCR, will drive towards PCR which will continue to dominate.
Testing here to stay and ongoing developments are essential, including faster and cheaper testing.
All the panel see no end to COVID until world is vaccinated
Consensus global vaccination is big challenge, due to anti vaccine sentiment and lethargy (can't be bothered to be vaccinated)
Can still catch virus after vaccination (mild symptoms) and pass virus after vaccination (much lower probability).
New Forms R and friend (mostly friend)
I think some debriefing may be necessary here.
Grate times. Manchego started it. Unwittingly.
Gasman that would be lovely!
You know you are an LTH when you remember the cheese jokes from last time. Hopefully this is just the brieginning of our great NCYT journey.
When this all over, the only thing left may be De Brie !
@VanV,
Of course, and that's the truth.
Interestingly, there's 475 varieties of Swiss Cheese !!
@Porky9 - Keep safe
Just re-iterate the point, recent article in Indian Express :
https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/long-covid-the-impact-of-coronavirus-on-human-body-7304594/
The long term impact on the seemingly 'young and healthy' Covid-19 patients is being primarily noticed in 6 organs
@troublesome
You are so absolutely right
And of course, Long Covid is something often swept under the carpet but the numbers are increasing and it really is just awful to see anyone suffering with this condition.
These really are challenging times
You take care now

' Choices we make will define the outcome ' - as in life - some we regret, some we're proud of, some will haunt us forever.
We are what we chose to be and regards Covid, it isn't going to hang around waiting for difficult decisions to be made.
Pity we hadn't made the right choices from the beginning such as Australia and N.Z as IMO many thousands of lives would have been saved.
Novacyt has shown it has the solutions in order to keep this damn virus under control alongside vaccinations . The opportunity needs to be grasped with both hands ASAP instead of tinkering about with inferior alternatives and filling the pockets of countries carrying out atrocities. Don't want more lives to be lost or ruined unnecessarily as a result of long Covid which will cost far more to us all in the long run.
The discussion was eye opening to a certain extent.
It was good that Matt HanCo@k was watching as it leaves the Government in no doubt that a layered approach will be required for evermore.
Choices we make will define the outcome but essentially vaccination, testing and screening will remain along with containment in severe break out situations as we learn to live with the virus.
Vaccination > Testing > Social Responsibility
Any notion that LFT will replace PCR is dead in the water as both testing methods are essential.
Vaccination > Even those vaccinated can spread the virus albeit in reduced numbers. The shocking reality that even in the USA after the initial surge of people coming forward wanting the vaccine the take up rate is dropping off due to people NOT wanting to be vaccinated. We are talking nearly half the population and that’s in a considered developed nation, so the Virus and variants will continue to spread and evolve.
Testing > LFT Like raking the lawn for leaves, we need to keep doing it over and over quickly to find as many cases as possible BUT they still need to be then verified by PCR to identify what they are. The more cases identified the more PCR required. PCR is absolutely essential. We need to keep on top of variants especially Variants of Concern as they can undermine the vaccine and may be more contagious as already identified. We need to then support sequencing to stay ahead of the VOCs.
Social Responsibility > Containment would be required in outbreaks. The world is not safe until we are all safe. Those vaccinated can still spread the virus. More people need to come forward for vaccination. If everyone socially distanced, it would help eradicate the virus but that is not a reality hence we have to learn to live with it.
The key take for Novacyt investors is that we have all bases covered for our supply chains with both PCR and LFTs and demand will remain.
Diagnostics is here to stay, and the UK is a WORLD leader. In my considered opinion Novacyt’s diagnostics will continue to evolve as they are ahead of the curve on R&D and as such revenues will continue and become proven and the business ultimately will be re-rated properly as such.
I am pro biased for Novacyt I accept; however, this really is a golden opportunity to hold shares here like no other. The discussion only endorses my belief of the importance of Novacyt on the world stage. As I said before Novacyt is History in the Making.
Soon the market will not ignore the investment opportunity here imo.
GLA
Any thanks from anyone regards Novacyts charitable contribution to UNICEF ?
Yes, nice to see they are all in agreement on those points.
Naewise 15:11 for me troublesome.
Just got in
Did we learn anything new ?
Good point K/B2, looking forward to the day the investing world come to realise what we already know.
Haha . Interesting Ncyt tweet this
Hopefully involved in the 900,000,000 diagnostic tests they aim for in 2021

The fact they are prepared to speak indicates to B2 that they have been given lots of freeby tests and assays to take home and distribute freely to influential persons.. :-)
'webinar, very informative.....the share price should be well North of £15.00...what a company, sounds like we have all the right irons in the fire!' Spot on Neilrich3! If anyone remains unconvinced about the future of NCYT please watch this webinar!
Gaz, I think it would be difficult to get guest speakers in of the right calibre if they thought they were being used to promote one specific company during a pandemic. The fact they are prepared to speak indicates to me they hold Novacyt in high regard. Just imo. K
They all agreed that Covid will be with us for a VERY long time owing in part to the differing strategies of numerous countries (not forgetting the cost) and that vaccines do not prevent spread of virus. They agreed that faster, more clever testing was necessary nearer to the patient (as opposed to sending tests to a lab) and also that the period of quarantine should be longer!
Excellent , Eric knows all there is to know what a switched on guy.
Walsh has posted this, anyone able to decipher .
