Thanks everyone for articulating so well what this latest piece of special news means in reality, the news for the company just seems to get better and better as every day passes here!
greggreen good info.
I think that the FDA document is saying that the Qiagen swab can be used with the PD PCR Assay.
There seems to be a shortage of Qiagen kits and the paper is talking about:
1) alternative RNA extraction to Qiagen.
2) Missing out the RNA extraction step, which sounds like doing the PCR on the nasal mucus.
3) The Oaklahoma report shows not enough Qiagen kits and reagents.
Researching, I also came across this info:Qiagen
https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.20.001008v1
shortages of RNA extraction kits have been a major testing bottleneck....
New technique, DIRECT RT-qPCR that skips a step and appears over 90% as accurate as conventional RT-qPCR for #Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 detection..
90% accuracy.... oh dear .. 90% conformance to positive test cases and NCYT has 100% homology.
Looks to me like there could well be people wanting to use the PrimerDesign with Qiagen kits.
This now bodes the question, what Thermo Fisher tests are being used in the UK? Is DIRECT RT-qPCR or conventional RT-qPCR being proposed in the UK???
VanV 100% homology looks like our golden goose.
I am having problems displaying all posts tonight.
The way I am combating this is to make different selections of the 'posts per page' control, - eventually the latest post is displayed.
donno - In order to answer the 'does it speed up the results' question, we need to refer to the Primerdesign support desk.
The other question is how many concurrent test can the Qiagen platform perform concurrently.
One of the Bruker-Hain platforms only tested 12 tests at a time!)
My post gone missing cant understand this thread with posts missing. Regards
an answer to that
yes it was posted earlier the main question arising is does this speed up the results?? I am not sure we have found an answer to the
Been out all day. Can someone explain what going on here, many thanks. Chris
I believe the following is what everyone has been referring to:
https://twitter.com/Blad3sharp/status/1248669846482694146?s=20
Also the info that B2HS2L just very kindly posted should explain what I was referring to.
The Qiagen RNeasy kit they mention in the paper has been around for years - they've just shown that it can used in this scenario as well. It simply isolates the target RNA from all the other rubbish. They then went on to order their own primers.

This lists FDA EUA's granted.
Within this list click on 03.20.2020 Primerdesign Ltd - IFU (Instructions for use).

Now see page 2 Extraction Platforms , and see that this column has been updated to include two platforms including Bruker-Hain and Quiagen platforms.
Neither equipment was true when the original EUA was granted on 03.20.2020.
jonesrichard can you clarify what news it is your are referring to as there were a number of threads thanks
Seems like some more special news has hit for us moving forward and the market isn't even open, this feels like the gift that keeps giving!
You would have to say reading between the lines the PrimerDesign detection kit has been shown to be much more adaptable to a variety of hardware and budgets which is why I think the WHO gave it the thumbs up.
So annoying they cannot say who's kits but did both of the recommended tests from WHO work on QIAgen QIamp Viral RNA Mini?

If i have put two and two together correctly this would mean we have bigger foot hold in the us market? ?
Parkz Im not an expert on the science but to me it says the NCYT PrimerDesign Primer which is the %100 C19 matched can be used on the Quiagen / Thermo Fisher kit.
Please can someone simplify what I'm looking at here with this quiagen thing.
I'm not lazy I'm just struggling to tie up the conection between that and this? I'm only 25 so I'm trying to learn fast.
Any help would be massively appreciated
This is the good news behind it. Top seller https://www.qiagen.com/gb/products/top-sellers/qiaamp-dna-mini-kit/#orderinginformation
Greg I dont know the science behind this but to a layman it looks like the PrimerDesign Primer / Assay can be used with the OptiGene Lamp test kit ?

Got it.
Yes, very positive.
Got it.
Yes, very positive.
that was my question too. It could be implied in the letter, but it is not clear.
nono Its equipment, that Primerdesign can be used on ... i think. There was an FDA update.
