I had a couple there over the weekend.
It is very nice to see Whitbread selling it. I couldn't not have a couple of scoops while we were there.
I did enjoy it but found it to taste a bit stronger out of the bottles that I buy at Morrison's than the draft at the bar.
But you're right, it's nice to see that they sell well at the supermarkets
Actually I've seen it on draft at a Brewers Fayre .
We were at a Premier Inn in Stourbridge over the weekend visiting friends. (No Marston's Inns in Stourbridge I'm sorry to say, or we'd have gone there).
That said we did visit The Glassworks, (A Marston's pub) with our friends on the Sunday & had lunch there, (there was 10 of us). A cracking meal it was too. Great stuff and with the discount card saved £16. Happy days.
Trent it is probably the Best Beer I have tasted without being too strong. I am yet to find it on Draft and ASDA often have empty shelves, which must say something about it's popularity.
Not at all, Fairdealer.
I'm afraid that the Hobgoblin Gold is a bit stronger than it looks.
It's a very nice drop though.
Thanks Trent, I did notice and thought I had been demoted to Janitor!!!!!
Strong stuff that Marstons
*I meant Fairdealer. Doh!
Too much of the Marston's good stuff over the weekend, I think.
That's a possibility, Clogs of course. But as caretaker says, European producers are not the only wine/lager & beer producers. They will of course still want to sell their wares to us, as will all other European businesses. Despite all the bravado. So is not really in their interests to act up. Despite all the BS.
If anyone remembers, a while ago Tim Martin of Wetherspoon's had stated that should they all start acting up, there are plenty of other Countries that stock can be purchased from, New Zealand, South Africa et al.
I would hope that Marston's knows this.
Just a thought.
Europe not the wine producer it once was, a great deal comes from Australia, New Zealand, California, South America etc. Our beers will be cheaper in Europe so with all these Tourists the UK's drinks industry could do pretty well. The Hong Kong Investor is certainly not concerned.
MARS certainly not Brexit proof. All wines from France,Italy,Spain,Germany and all Continental beers, lagers will cost more, so maybe MARS will sell less.
Cherryburn
You are 100% correct in principle, imo, but just one snag, have you ever tried staying in a Marstons room ?
I booked one in Devon once & it was a shocker, we didn't stay.
It is the quality aspect which has always bothered me, a pub is a pub, fair enough, but when you start investing into food etc (e.g. the Pitcher & Piano in Cornhill), the food is microwaved, not cheap, slow service, lovely building but all the places around it in the same price point are on a different level altogether.
Another boost to MARS sp will be all the ex GNK shareholders flush with cash looking for a brewery to buy into !
Also a shareholder in GNK but hope that Marstons can resist any takeover approaches for now. Good yield and mainly Brexit proof. More tourists will be flocking to the UK with low £ rates and assume that very few imported items for the pubs .

A very good question, but I suspect our new Chairman might be very happy ?
barchid hard to know RF's strategy, having pulled the plug on refurbs etc a few weeks ago. Some may think him an Empire Builder and would resist approaches. Wonder if he would advise acceptance of £2.5Bbillion?

I am a GNK shareholder as well as MARS. I would have preferred the GNK share price to have attained it's current level over a period of time as a matter course rather than see it fall into foreign ownership.
MARS is still at a low valuation . I won't be selling any more below 140p. A takeover offer would need to be in excess of 160p
Fairdealer
As you know from my posts I've been fancying a bid for sometime, but looking at this Hong Kong deal, perhaps RF should look to sell the pubs, lodgings, which in many cases are pretty poor to someone with a similar view of todays deal and then see a bid roll in for the UK's largest brewer ?
Wouldn't that make sense ?
Correct longtime..... are we next? What sensible value would you accept for your shares?

What are you talking about. MARS is up today due to the Greene King takeover offer.
I know Warren Buffet is sitting on cash, and I know he likes investing in this Country because I worked for one of his Companies once. He has already bought Cadburys and Heinz, he also has a large controlling interest in Coke, and I wonder if he is starting to show an interest. If so his timing is superb. Time will tell who it is once the notifications come to the market via RNS.
