SHAPERITE, my posts of many months ago advocated following the JV with Carlsberg, the company needed to re-invent itself. Pub have been closing for 20 years and more. The only way to move forwards is to innovate and not be afraid of risk and change, and you consider that negative? This is a company, like most with shareholders, who want to see growth and not stagnation. Marstons have got to establish a New business model, or is that Negative?
You can enjoy your pint of grog, the company producing and marketing must create added value otherwise be overwhelmed with debt.
You seem to agree RF has outlived his tenure, something some of us believe should have happened many moons ago. His legacy has to be managed. The Old guard may be going, regrettably the company is not importing fresh thinking.
LTH's want to see steady consistent growth that eliminates the debt pile and not short=termism that suits casino players (Traders). Which group do you support?
To all you drinkers of real ale and good beer, where the Heck has Marsdens Pedigree disappeared to???? in my part of the West Midlands it is " Persona Non Gratia "Yes, it was priced at a few sheckles more than your average swill, but what a drink !!! Not bottled but hand pulled it was like eating and drinking at the same time!! If we let it die more fool us. Viva MARSDENS!!!
Fairdealer, with all due respect, Ralphs departure and the Brains chairman reigning is clearing out old wood, New world that they could not agree with, their perogative to go, numerous annalagies going right back over 80 odd years, Halifax did not agree with Churchill, Heseltine did not agree with Thatcher, Brown did not agree with Blair, I do not agree with Whitbread, but Im damn sure that if I were running Marsdens I would produce something that my competitors had not thought of doing!! All power to Marsdens Arm, and stop being so negative, the next trading update may be poor but it will be the floor for advancement, Viva Le Pedigree ( And by the way Rev. James is a stonking Beer as well ).
SHAPERITE, pray tell what the Board saw coming? Ralph's departure or Brain's chairman resigning following the deal with Marstons.
Innovation is required for sure. The sales update is eagerly awaited.
Well done Marstons B.O.D. who saw it coming - nobody, who else thought of it ? - nobody, this is the difference between being an inovative business person and just a commentator after the events !! The possibilities are endless with a supposedly poor Brains estate that could compete with all the childrens amusements around, really for minimal outlay compared to the competition. I hope its an amazing success, but if it isnot then on to the next innovation, early days yet, but
at the risk of repeating myself - I LIKE IT !!!!!!!!!!
Dullard Marstons are not a Private Company, but a Public Listed Company who are required to keep the market informed of any important developments, i.e. Takeover approaches. Look at Morrisons where the BOD accepted an offer which was/is subsequently trumped by other interested parties. As Musk's side kick you know little about the protocols under which PLC's must operate. Directors can be culpable of maladminsistration and potentially be removed, if shareholders are treated as mushrooms.

Unfortunately a numbskull just has claimed otherwise, not even an M&S numbskull, but one who makes Walter Mitty look shy & clever !
Indeed when this one speaks he appears to believe he is the world's greatest living expert on every subject upon which he pontificates...
On my news mow link feed shown tonight Marstons have done a deal for the summer holidays with Paramount pictures for 270 Marstons pubs looks good for the family entertainment. They certainly come up with some good promotions and idea's. See link :-

Unfair trader has absolutely no idea at all. Does he think every director is selected for their position by shareholders. Some can even buy their way onto a Companies Board - but then he would not know this as one has to actually own shares! Wow in his World the interview process would take a long time wouldn't it contacting all of the shareholder to see if one was fit for employ. He clearly has no idea at all to confidentiality agreements, how directors are selected and / or employed. I think he may find the shareholders are asked to vote when it is after the initial employment so that Directors may be re-elected. Still I will leave it up to him the expert to read what he feels is the position, as we await what I suspect will be surprisingly excellent results -where more and more people are now staying in the Uk for this years summer holidays. Good luck to those like me who actually own shares in this great Company.
Let’s see what the trading report says on the 28th
What rubbish, Directors are obliged to keep Shareholders, who select them, informed of any Approach. Only a numbskull would claim otherwise.
Lots of usual rubbish on here from regulars who have simply no idea how the big world operates. In fact if there was a take over approach RF and the B.O.D could not make mention of it whilst negotiations take place and whilst no doubt a proper due diligence is being undertaken, as I myself have been involved with such matters and it is fit and proper to have a fully signed up confidentiality agreement in place. So the fact is was not mentioned recently may in fact mean something is in hand already. Don't be distracted by the so called de-rampers, they soon turn positive when they hold one or two shares! Easy to spot when they actually hold any as their whole tone changes for the positive. Good company this been operating for 100's of years, one bout of a virus will not sink it when it has such a long "Pedigree".
Soon know next week on one RNS it said trading announcement 28th of July I could be wrong also
It’s a while since I posted here though I have followed the chat. I have always thought Marstons had some flair, and whatever may be said about Brains and Ralph’s departure, I have still have confidence in the shares to the extent that after a long spell dithering I have rustled up enough dosh to have a little top up. Hope springs eternal
Trent/FD
Completely agree.
@FD. Some good points from yourself as usual. A good clinical eye is always welcome.
I too wonder why no mention was made of the two "offers" in December were not mentioned. I know that we had some kind of comment made by RF about not informing the markets.
I'm not implying that he was behaving negligently by making no reference to it, but either way, even if he had planned to dismiss either or both offers out of hand, shareholders should have been made aware of them. It's a transparency issue to my mind.to
I get the point as well that this Khak handed Brain's deal will have muddied the water as well, and like yourself, I've made my opinions on this subject known too. I still maintain that while I see some limited merit to it, I would have preferred to have seen Brain's to have been thrown to the wolves and is to pick up their carcass up for a pittance, and build it up from there.
Just my view, of course.
Londoner, YoYoMa, everyone,
Have commented a few times regarding the rejection of the Platinum offer. Shareholders have aright to be agrieved as we were not informed of the 2 offers in December from Platinum. I still believe Platinum's last offer would have been increased had RF and Co shown interest. However, and I have made the point before, the Brain's deal was done done with such undue haste it displayed desparation on part of Brains and an attitude of comardadie that existed between the Execs of both company's. Platinum were given a very clear message by our BOD when the transaction with Brains occured. Platinum were only interested in Marston's assets not the worthless assets of another Pub Group. Remember Marston are only managing the Brain's estate, Brain's retain the freehold of all of their Pubs.
There are huge funds floating across the Atlantic, just look at the Morrison's situation.
As far as Marstons selling off pubs, they are part of a JV which restricts how many can be sold.
Londoner as far as taking action against the BOD, forget it. It would be surprising if Major Shareholders have not already made their views known. The BOD would have Corporate Indemnity, so unless agrieved shareholders have bottomless pockets to employ Top QC's , the exercise would be futile
AIMO
Sorry 56 of only 63 tenanted pubs, just spotted my typo, but at least it is apples with apples.
YoYoMa
Another great day for your spuds !
The discharger uses Young's numbers as a puff for Mars, totally ignoring to mention that last week Young's sold 56 of its 73 tenanted pubs for £53mill, whilst MARS took on the probable poisoned chalice of running roughly the same number from Brains.
I have heard of people confusing apples with oranges but this poster confuses himself.
Deliberately ?
Good for your Maris Pipers though.
I see Youngs made a very positive trading update this morning. Their sales they say are ahead of expectations.
Could be a good start for us where we must expect an update soon.
85-90s EOW GLA.
At the moment we all want 105 for our shares, if they had rallied on opening up to 120 we’d be praising the bod for their strong leadership.
