Rover 75 my best ever car. Had three and loved them all.
"My name is Jørgen and I am from Norway!"
Funny that, because Norway isn't in the EU either.
Two identical vehicles, same age, been round the planet 12 times each. Never broken down once, all original equipment except for a new gearbox in one and that took four boxes to finally sort the 5 gear problem - so much for recons, waste of time. Both still drive perfectly and better than new models - French
Good morning Jørgen. My real name is Santa and I'm from Lapland - close.
Theosus, why are you going on about the x type. That's almost 20 years ago and most Jaguar drivers and owners, including myself, never accepted that it was a proper Jaguar. It was during the time of Ford ownership when they thought they could rebadge a Mondeo and pass it off as a Jaguar. Ian Callum began the renaissance for Jaguar from 2007 with the XF.
Morning DCB
Theosus,
I am a chartered mech engineer and have driven Jags and rovers for the last 40 years
They are still british designed and built here. Yes they are assembling some in Slovakia but who isn't taking advantage of EU subs!
jr
Theosus, I suggest you read your first line.
By the way, I said British made. I prefer to spend my money benefitting our country's manufacturers and producers.
Theosus, you quite obviously look down your nose at Jaguars, but I've run one for over 5 years and can honestly say I love it and it gives me pride to drive a vehicle built in this country, irrespective of who owns the brand. It has never let me down and moreover, I have never wished to drive a German saloon and similarly have not bought any French produce for years. I will always support my country and it's producers wherever I can.
I had 4 AMG cars, all v8s, one after the other. Had to stop buying in the end. One turned into a v7 that apparently couldn’t be cured. One drank turbo intercooler fluid for no reason. The third had body panels that didn’t fit and number four had a jerky gearbox that wouldn’t update. All the faults were “blamed” on my driving or the fuel I ran them on. Fuel was Shell so no issue there. I had receipts and they sampled the tank. In the end I gave up and bought a Vantage. Been sound.
Theosus,
"Who doesn't aspire to a german car" like the cheating VW, Audi etc?
Well I for one don't and never will. Only UK built jags for my wife and me.
And no French wines for the last few years, only new world ones!
jr
theosus finde out the bill for VW, eye watering
£25000 for the test case

" All Lloyds shareholders at current share prices are effectively bank rolling the UK public with YOUR hard earned savings."
It's going to keep that way, because that's what the goverment want.
Nash it was to late but who do we put that down to
With Lloyds trading at 50% of its net tangible assets, Lloyds needs to shrink to grow.
Reduce lending, and return the money to shareholders. All Lloyds shareholders at current share prices are effectively bank rolling the UK public with YOUR hard earned savings.
Theosus, we will soon find out how much of our financial services industry is essential, along with the number of jobs created in parts of the none essential service sector.
I was pointing out if there was a country to copy or even one day beat, it would be Germany.
P.S ,that electric connector with Denmark can run both ways too.
"Our crown jewel industry banking. Taxes at over 46% compared to USA 33%. Overregulated."
Bit dodgy to follow the US economy, i would say it's better to follow the German model for a country our size/democracy.
wids, the BoE are on record stating that the Gov may not have to pay it back, under these new mechanisms...
make of that what you will...
if Austerity lays ahead then it will be deep and believe me Anderson Shelters will be built....
social unrest, mass unemployment leading to etc, etc...
Pippa
Spot on that QE has never solved any problems other than giving a bit of a lifeline.
We are now in a new world of QE wherein Furlong and direct checks to individuals is being tried.
If a business does not have at least 6 months of their normal expenses in cash reserves than they are going to fold down irrespective of how much business loans or Furlong schemes is provided for survival.
Therefore, it's a cache 22 situation should the govt support businesses which will not survive or allow them to scale down or close down?
It may not be an option - next time it will be forced. Over consumption and living beyond your means Top down has consequences. It will play out and the books rebalanced.
After all, it's your kids future your stealing.
Austerity - i don't see this as an option for the Gov this time around.
Spend, Spend Spend and as Nash2020 states incentives for businesses to relocate, benefits are always going to be an open wound on our society..
Onlyif
Austerity was too little and too late. We need to reform our welfare system as it is too easy to access and too many loopholes for people to manipulate.
A few years ago a reputed professor was stating how he lost his 25 year old daughter once she went into the DWP to claim an Income support. The daughter was told in the DWP offices how she could obtain various benefits including a house without working. This led to her being a couch potato and not wanting to work at all as the benefits amount was quiet higher than any potential employment income.
