''The 16-17 year olds I know are far more mature and knowledgeable than when I was their age.''
That says more about you than thinking people of that age are more knowledgeable than the same age group in the past.
In the past 14+ year olds were exposed to the real world of work- not left to linger in educational units exposed to left wing bias.
You've mellowed and become more insular in your old age RW, all that stuff happens and you could add drugs to the list.
A generalisation I know but, when I was 16-17 I was out drinking, fighting and sh.a.gging. The 16-17 year olds I know are far more mature and knowledgeable than when I was their age.
Labour has gone it's name is out of date..Labour equates to manual workers and society is moving on more actual middle class
and those wanobies , needs a complete overhaul and name change. Image is of scum poor sick and helpless, society is different and moving at such a fast pass, labour living in dark ages,
Kids.... leading the blind. Or is it blind leading the adults? Either or it’s totally absurd and only weak politicians are driving this agenda as they know those older ones can see right through the B.S. and they just want to retain the ideals of democracy not having to truly enact it. Boris is Teresa in drag, democracy and the will of the people has been replaced with drama. Episode 1 Jersy island. Episode 2 backdoor payment to the EU. It’s all a crock and we know it.
If your child is at uni and you have to pay cash until the are 21.. it’s called child support for a reason. Children should not be able to vote imho.

''We think we know the answers to the problems we created. Guess what, we don't.Global warming was not created by the youngster, grown ups did. ''
''Problems are created by grown ups ''
How funny.
These 'grown ups' - were they not once youngsters?
Your logic says that the world would be a lot better if all decisions are left to teenagers, and once the age of 20 is attained, you lose the right to have a voice.
RW
exit polls are very accurate
As we get older we become less open minded. We think we know the answers to the problems we created. Guess what, we don't. Global warming was not created by the youngster, grown ups did. It isnt the 16 year olds running around spewing carp into the world. It isnt youngsters who run the wet markets where we believe Covid originated. Problems are created by grown ups and we leave it to those younger to sort it out.
That is why i say 21 is a more sensible minimum voting age. Most would have started out in the real world of work by then.
Refreshed my memory. 70,000 versus 30,000 votes, a difference of 40,000 is hardly going to stop the bus. Secondly, he last I saw , the ballot is a secret one so the numbers could only be as a result of a poll or guesstimate. So I remain open minded

''People of my age do not have to live with the decision, the youngsters do.''
Lower the voting age to 10.
I think you will find that people of all ages are affected by electoral choices. People are not just voting for themselves but future generations. The future of the unborn should not be decided by 16 and 17 year olds in a snapshot in time. Those 16 and 17 year olds will get old and die.

As ever, my commentcame from my rapidly failing memory. I may well be confusing Indyref1 and Brexit. However, the point still remains. People of my age do not have to live with the decision, the youngsters do. So if anyone should have a voice it s hould be those who stand to be most affected.. personally, I have more faith in young people than others do.
The future of the UK possibly in the hands of 16 and 17 year olds (or younger in future) - crazy

''the voting split among the 16-17 year olds did not differ significantly from the adults''
'' 16- and 17-year-old voters were, by a wide margin, the most pro-independence age group, voting Yes by a margin of 71 per cent to 29 per cent.''

My initial thought was to agree with the last part of your comment in that voters should be 21 years old. However, on reflection I am open minded. Certainly the Indyref1 and Brexit referendums were so far reaching that the ramifications will be felt decades into the future. If I had to stop anyone from voting it would be the elderly, including myself. I won't have to live with the decision, the youngsters will. They have a far greater stake in it than I have . As I understand the numbers, the voting split among the 16-17 year olds did not differ significantly from the "adults"

to boost the nationalist vote once again. Surprised they haven't reduced the voting age further
by now down to 14 - every little helps as they say at Tesco.
Personally I would have an age limit of 21 in all elections
