''those of you with chunks of cash lying effectively idle in premium bonds it may wake you up to better alternatives''
I think people are hoping to win £1 million on PB, which would be the attraction over the averaging 1% income on them.
Also have to consider the wide spread on prefs, if not keeping forever.

some may prefer though the 10% total return currently offered on the ordinary shares. It would be surprising if the average profitability for the next 10 to 20 years is not such as to be able to make a total return to investors averaging 4.5p per share

''well as interest rates rise the capital value of bonds(and roughly this is a bond to all intents and purposes)falls so its quite possible, indeed probable that the capital value will fall further ''
it's a lot better than 1.5%.

''US 10 yr notes yield ~1.5% , risk free.
Erratum... not "over 65 for ever " but "over 6% for ever" - sorry!
So the answer is LLPC .Never heard of it ? it's a Non-cumulative irredeemable preference share with a coupon(ie interest payment ) of........9.25% BUT as the current price of each nominal £1 share is about £1.44 the effective rate of interests is a tad over 6.4%.and at that rate I have been adding to my already substantial holding.
Whats the snag....well as interest rates rise the capital value of bonds(and roughly this is a bond to all intents and purposes)falls so its quite possible, indeed probable that the capital value will fall further if tho' you are like me and never intend to sell them and in my case pass them on to the grandkids that doesn't matter . And if also like me you believe that wherever interest rates go in the future an investment that will pay me over 65 forever and which has a duration of about 16 years, (ie in sixteen years you've got all your money back and forever thereafter you are making a guaranteed income)then this is a good deal.As ever this is NOT investment advice, is NOT for the Spread betters and short -term gamblers who frequent this board. But to go back to my original point those of you with chunks of cash lying effectively idle in premium bonds it may wake you up to better alternatives. Gotta go but will answer any questions or seek to address any concerns either later this pm or tomoz.
Buenos tardes.
Love Premium Bonds.
Their "1 in 59 billion" chance of hitting the jackpot makes total sense.
Like buying LLOY for a 4% dividend while the share price tanks -20%.

I was replying to a post put up by Falkland. I think you have already said you have him filtered so you would not have seen his original post.
Stuff premium bonds.......Lloyds offer an investment deal which currently offers an interest rate of 6.4%, paid semi-annually fixed forever. Does anyone know what it is ?
I'll be back in a couple of hours with the answer.....
"By one bl00dy single digit missed winning the lottery...got £2150 approx....
the jackpot was £8m....never mind"
I think that's what they call fate.
Most I've won is a tenner so count yourself lucky.

Saying that looking at 2 of them you wouldn't believe their net worth, all run their own businesses ~ 4 o'clock club
LOL I replied to them on Facebook stating about time the rates increased If you want your savers to stay only last week, good news anyway
Fund rate increased to 1.4%, still not enough for me. I'll take my chances, even in this market. Or should I say especially in this market.
Sadly no £150 for me Brixton, they didn't think about us poor struggling, 'house rich income poor' investors. (^_^)
That's been fully loaded long time .
