what trillsg missed is the electrolyte that should gain or loose electrons to store energy in carbon cells. this electrolyte is still a dream, that do not catch fire. but it has to be of ionic nature.
using only an advanced form of carbon combined with a new type of ionic electrolyte, C-Ion cells cannot catch fire because there is nothing inside that will burn, while the ionic electrolytes act as a fire suppressant
daza, again, there is no carbon ion that could be used to store electricity. if you look in the periodic table carbon is in column 6 and has 4 free electrons: it means it is not positive or negative for that sense. ions are usually from the column one in the periodic table where elements are electropositive. carbon cells will be used as boxes to store lithium ions. this is what nano technology is all about.

Lithium from rock is the best with shorter production cycle and less risk to environment.

Tiny volumes reported today..... only a few thousand pounds between bought and sold.... doesn't justify any drop really.... unless there is something the MMs arentvletting us see yet.
trillsg, it does not matter which technology they are going to use. they all include lithium. lithium is the lightest, safest and most electromotive element in nature 'after hydrogen'. what they are doing with new technologies, they are trying to maximize the number of cycles a battery may be charged and reducing the charging time.

Nobody has a crystal ball to see what will replace or join Lithium when it comes to battery materials, but keep in mind that something appearing now has a minimum of 5 years to become fully commercialised. If it is a completely new material it has even more hurdles to jump in terms of it's own supply chain and manufacture.... nobody builds a mega factory to supply world demand on the back of a pilot scale trial.......
Lithium is a long way along that journey that really kicked off with consumer electronics..... and why wouldnt a new light battery material not follow that route first (eg...Samsung's graphene battery device being released for one of their devices in 2022).
That said....... there are so many battery applications kicking off at the same time there is probably room for a good number of different technologies to be supplying the overall demand..... and everyone make a lot of money.....

Trillsg, I won’t be selling as I’m so far under here it’s **** or bust now. I still think lithium will be a good thing it’s just going to be a long slog just to even break even for me now.
Don't like to be negative but yes the sp is depressing Sorb and articles like that don't cheer me up. Just keep believing a Lithium producing mine will not have an sp at this level so keep holding and hoping.

Totally agree ARahim but this is no ethical share considering where we're mining. My concern was will there be the demand for Lithium if the carbon battery option comes into play?
EV is not about Americans, Trump or any selfish beings, in the country where everything is big except minds. It is about global warming policies that we should abide with, otherwise sooner there will be no climate to live for or a car to drive in. It is a necessity not a choice, where to get electricity from is the main question not EV. We have to think about how to store carbon not about how to release more in the air.

Any thoughts? Hopefully years off being viable and are reliably informed carbon burns so not ideal for running cars.
