I am so put out by the comments that I have to comment. I have had Karoo for years and I live in Brough out side of hull. I am on light stream fibre and its terrific, never goes down and with speeds out of this world. I have contacted the tech support on a few occasions and found them exceptional. Some Hull people think they are missing out on something but some are too stupid to look outside the box at times. My daughter lives in Leconfield and can not get KC services. She signed up to Sky and the service was terrible hardly ever working and their support was at best useless. They never actually got it working and as they use BT lines passed it to them to sort. As for price with sky that just kept rising even though they never got it fixed, at the contract end she left sky for BT. As for mobile, well were with O2 and the internet connection is at best useless on our phones being at all times snail speed. Does the person making his comments not know that although he pays KC its actually BT who maintain the local infrastructure ? I for one thank God for KC as the service and value for money they provide makes us the envy of those who can not get their service. Again the writer does not realise Hull has another provider and they are laying cables in the City as we speak. Go try them and I am sure KC will see you back after you learn your lesson.
It isn't a monopoly though is it ? Nobody is stopping BT, Sky etc from competing but BT, Sky etc. I have had Karoo for as long as I have had a PC/laptop ( 15 or 16 years or so ) and don't think it's half as bad as you make out. As I said before my other half is from down south and she came from Sky Broadband. She rates Karoo much higher. Can I ask, if you want them to fail so much why keep shares in them ? Isn't it incredibly hypocritical ?
I actually have ten thousand shares in the monopoly so you would think i would be keen for KC to succeed yet the quality of the company and the service they offer to my local community means i am hoping for a take over at a reasonable price to eliminate both my problems! My reference to 'everyone' was in relation to my friends and family. I can't speak for all the locals but one day we will be free. Like all dictators monopolies eventually get destroyed!!!!
Everyone ? Nice of you to speak for the whole area. I'm guessing you have no shares in KCOM as so anti them so why on here ?
You are describing my exact situation which is mirrored by virtually all my friends and colleagues. If we could ditch KC everyone would do so. The sooner KC are wiped off the face of the earth the better!!! I'm not bitter though!!!!
I am in Hull on KC My connection with kcom goes down a lot, failing almost every day it has failed 4 times in the last 5 hours. The size of the phone directory has been getting smaller for the last 4 years unsatisfied customers are going to mobile services Their customer phone line is 9 to 5 only. We upgraded to a new account promising fibre optic. still waiting after 8 months and yet still paying fot the optical connection and still on wire
Well the share price is near a 5 year high so you have an opportunity to sell your shares if you wish. DYOR
Well I for one don't hate KCom so I don't know who you can speak for all us locals. I haven't used broadband in many other parts of the U.K so cannot compare like for like however my other half moved to Hull from the south and she says its on a par with the Sky Broadband she had. As for OFCOM investigating and a monopoly how is that possible when KCOM don't stop others coming into Hull, it is their choice. It would be nice to have competition I agree but that's down to Sky, BT etc rather than KC. They see it as too expensive to lay cables for just one city.
Having come from BT land to KC land i can tell you that KC is a hell of a lot better than anything ive ever experienced. Try having a line provided by BT while dealing with DSL on talk talk...6 months for service to be sorted. I had DSL with KC at 10mbps and ive just switched over to their light stream which is fantastic. Should there be a choice of provider? probably! but ofcom have looked at this before...why would BT invest in the city? there are around 300k residents and i cant see many taking bt broadband, they would all be on alternative providers they use BT lines. It wouldnt make financial sense for BT to invest.
As a 'captive' customer of KC I can vouch for the fact that locals hate KC. Their internet service is probably the worst in the country. Constant breakdown in service, slow speeds and expensive with the overriding feeling that the entire city of Hull is being held to ransom by a local monopoly. No competitors will enter Hull because ownership of the cable network allows KC to make entry into the market totally unrealistic. Ofcom needs to look at this issue. If they see what we locals see every day then KC will be blown apart. I hold many shares in KC and have a vested interest in the shares performing well but as a local user I hope the whole company gets wiped out. Sadly KC have moved from a local community company to a local predator. Markets have a way of overcoming predators. The sooner the better!! Maybe I can rid myself of KC and reduce my losses at the same time!!!
I think the £90million is being used to pay down the debt and underscore the dividend at 6p for the next 3 years. Not a bad yield although I jumped ship a little early yesterday having bought in at 85p. Taken profits.
ok so KCOM have 90 million coming their way. Special divi? perhaps ? however this has shown more upside than that equivalent. I am not complaining just interested as i had not seen this extra potential! Obviously would have bought more a few days ago. What did I miss so I can learn from that and not miss the next little critter. Any help would be appreciated, I will keep it a secret, or at leaqst try to.
If there was ever a good sign of insider trading just look at that share price
Sale of assets for £90 M
Up 2% on no news, unless someone has an idea? Interim divi / ex divi day getting closer? Interesting to see if it holds up next week. Must be a buy on any weakness?
i got 45,343 @ 0.979522 not as shown on trades 98.25
Yes increased div, but earnings have not moved very much for the last 3 years. I hold these long term but would prefer to see earnings growth as well as inc Div.
Steady as she goes, as stated, the next two years are looking ok with an increased dividend policy, I can't see how much the divi is covered but I assume that is ok as well. No records broken but that is ok - no bids on the table for a very well run company! Nothing not to like. GLA
anyone know why this has dropped almost 3% today?
....a much bigger drop today. If the so hold anywhere around the 95p mark I'm happy. Another plummet to circa 85p ill be topping up. Now looking forward to august's divs !
Reads well with ex divi 25th 3.58p
Would it therefore be fair to say that interest rates rose to say 2.5 per cent and the dividend were flat then these shares become less attractive unless the company is bought.
If you have bought in at the prices you quoted at those specific times then clearly you have done well. But with respect, the figures you have given there are very selective. I could just do this (these are actual prices) : 01/11/13 100.1p 18/07/14 96p 09/01/15 87.25p I could therefore say that kcom is on the decline. My view is that kcom has neither grown nor shrunk during the last 3 years. It is, on average, flat. Broker consensus for the next 2 years for EPS is to continue being flat. Kcom is an income stock not a growth stock, in my view, and I'm happy with that so long as they can keep generating the cash flow to pay for divis.
26 /3 /13 82p -- 26/3/15 92p thats 12% in 2 years + 2 annual divs of a little over 4% . 20% return in 2 years , sorry but nothing to be sneezed at. Steady up & down but slowly rising. Looks fine to me
Depends how long you've been invested for... the sp has been the same for all the time I've been invested (2 years) with dips along the way...
