Thank you for your cheerful messages! I have recently tried to assess my individual longevity, but with no clear conclusions.
Having now had three years to miss my lifel;ong loving companion, we were married in Februiary 1952, She was inflicted with Alheimers disease, my immediate family have been very helpful and challenging, as have friends like you and some others on these boards. This very latest decline in shares, generally, can be attributed to the Virus attack, I believe. It would seem, however, that some individuals may have been somewhat thoughless about their movements, sad to say. I asked my son how the Emperor Penguins on the outside of their circle at the south Pole will fare when they try to move inside and are told "Self-Isolate, you intruder" !!
The so called emergency meeting of Cobra had to wait until the Newnie Prime Mininster was good and ready !!
Has the crisis passed ? I knew it would, Houray for UK Democracy. ----- Yours, Max.
Hello Max,
Thanks for your reply. Managed to sell the other half at even higher before the latest dive! Now got some cash to await the 'bottom'. Still taking big loss on paper though. All the best. Olda.
Dear Mr Olda, though my Younger ! Have you ever noticed whether the influence of US investors coming in about Noon onwards in buying the top five have pushed up or down on the SP ? The indices over there have been going strong in recent months. Think you might be right about the Don ! ---- Yours, Max.
I have sold half but reckon its worth holding the rest now the Donald has to be odds on for a second term. Might change my mind if it steams up to 370p
Hi Max,
Mine are in an ISA on the Share Centre platform (and I also bought for my late wife many years ago!) Just also took some GSK which look interesting again. Shana Tova!
Dear Mr OLDA - AR booklet: Was it posted to you directly ? My late wife should have received a copy since she has held these funds since they were Flemings ! However, it seems that some members have been registered as in an ISA though I don't recal her transferring at any time. I think you are correct in having confidence in the companies ability to choose solid investments, they wouldn't have grown so much if they floundered in that field. ----- Yours, Max.
Just received my AR booklet and all looking fine. A bit uncomfortable that the % in USA is up to over 56% but JPM know what they're doing and the long term performance and the dividend growth inspires confidence.
The RNS I was referring to was an Edison Review, which, strangely, looks like it has been removed! Happy birthday for next month. It's hard to know when US will sag. Until then there is a fair chance this chart will continue upward. The talk is now of the Fed reducing interest rates to keep the Dow marching up. I have a fund of cash now waiting for Hard Brexit to hit home before I pop it back in UK stocks. All ythe best, Olda
But not older (91next month)
Your last post mentioned an RNS (a review) but could not determine which ! So I looked up 1st July about MAR Article 19, I think. this is about a closed period part way through August. Is this the review you mean ? I have never knowingly come across anything about MAR, could you enlighten this Ol' Man ! ----- Yours, Max.
Couldn't agree more. Latest RNS (a review by the paid reviewer!) still positive and though USA gives me heeby jeebies right now, inclined to hang on and take the divis. The problem with cashing in is where to reinvest and sleep at nights.
Regards, Olda
Glad to read your comments. My wife held these for yonks, and I think it is already diversified, even though it may be heavy in USA it tries to get a good income as well as grow, anywhere in the world. This aim may well help achieve growth in countries which do not get much investment in-bound. In theory, that kind of investment, done judicially, could help certain industries to grow to help their citizens. Fairtrade seemed to be one aspct of helping countries flourish. Water Aid is always telling us of poor conditions in some areas, perhaps this fund AND others could lead the way to establishing good conservation of water supplies and modern reservoir systems. I feel sure that there are water engineers in the world who could tackle these problems, helping countries and showing how agricultural facilities will alleviate the shortages presently existing. ----- Yours, Max.
I have just gone in here but big. What Inv magazine says stop being UK-centric with Brexit looming and I took their advice. Can see why you held this forever. Good yield and relatively wide spread of investments (although a bit too much in US for my liking) No, I'm here for at least two years if still breathing then! Also spread into Far East further.
Having held this, under its various names, since decades am wondering if perhaps it is time to diversify a little.
