Lol! If you personally help secure rns-able contracts Si, you can have her for free. In fact I'd also buy you a pint :p
Regarding this granny, Jabido? Ballpark figure? ;)
Time will tell if you are correct BP, evidently the noises from the shipping tsar give us all at least a glimmer of hope we'll get something. And I think navantia would gladly assist in building the fss. A small piece of a pie is better than none at all. To answer oldtramp, I'd sell my granny to get anything and everything from as many sectors as possible for reason's Stokey put far more succinctly than I :)
oldtramp,
It is my contention that Infrastrata will never build a ship; not least because there is no-one in the organisation with the experience of so doing. Others believe that the Spanish Armada, in the shape of Navantia, will sail to the rescue and lead INFA through its skills and knowledge deficiency.
If you were signing the purchase order, would you take the needless risk?
Stokey /Blair thanks very much appreciated
Good evening Blair do you mean no to shipbuilding or O/S Wind farm jackets I noted that Saipem have started using mono piles
https://www.offshorewind.biz/2021/06/09/saipem-orders-calvados-monopiles-at-eew-spc/
oldtramp In relation to your 19.18 post I think the way forward is both due to the time lag between lease for the seabed in relation to Offshore Windfarms and the start of construction. The use of different work streams mean there is less of a risk that you would run out of work. In relation to the Saipem contract that is due to finish around April next year. The next larger contract will start sometime after that. Something will need to fill the gap between the two contracts.
It is not wise to rely on only one work stream as was seen with Appledore the previous owners only had it doing defence work when that dried up it closed.
oldtramp,
No.
Evening gents do you think new builds on ships is the way forward ? The renewable sector ie Saipem contract for jackets along with refurb of cruise liners/ferries etc is more appealing to me
Jabido Thanks for the link in your 18.38 post. BAB better hope that Mr Wallace gets moved in the next reshuffle. At today's hearing he said that he expects vessels to be delivered on time. So if BAB takes on too much work they might find the MoD may not be as understanding as in the past.
Hi Stokey hopefully this link works..
https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/bab****-to-enhance-ukrainian-naval-capabilities/
UK defence journal and navy lookout are well worth a follow on Twitter. I too hoped the Ukrainian builds could come our way but it's not looking great
Jabido In relation to your 16.26 post BAB are so heavily involved in the Type 26 and the Type 31 I would be surprised if they would have the capacity to take on another large order. Also the Ukranian order would be a good opportunity to show that he does intend to spread the work around.
In other news the Defence Select Committee will be having an Oral Evidence Session in relation to its Inquiry Navy purpose and Procurement Next Tuesday. The timetable for witnesses can be found here https://committees.parliament.uk/event/5026/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/ I note that BAB, BAe and Thales are all giving evidence but INFA is not. I might check to see if they will be giving oral evidence.
Thanks for the video link and comments chaps
It's coming but not soon enough, I fear.
JW... prove me wrong please
I have now listened to the above chaired by the very capable Tobias Ellwood MP & have concluded that in the mid term H&W & Appledore will play its part in supporting the building programme of the Ministry of Defence. However in the near term i.e. this year that will not be the case.INFA is a very frustrating investment & I like may others are disappointed as to where we think we are today as shown by the current SP.I only hope the next update will be more positive in terms of things happening not just where the projected pipeline is !!!
Sorry, thanks to Chris too :)
Sorry to put a downer on such a positive ;) day...the Ukraine boats are being built by Bab****. At least we got a mention by the shipping tsar, thanks for sharing Stokey
The relevant part of the Defence Secretary's evidence to the Defence Select Committee can be found here https://jmp.sh/cBO0NxM
Hi stokey12 - I am also listening to the above hearing & noted that the minister of defence was pleased that H&W added Appledore also that he had been arranging or has arranged to meet up with the CEO of Harland & Wolff.Link below:

I am just listening to the Defence Secretary before the Defence Select Committee I will upload a recording of it later today after the hearing finishes. He did state that the contract for the Ukrainian Navy ships was signed yesterday. The ships will be built in the UK. Will be interested to see which shipyard gets the work. James Spellar and Gavin Robinson gave him some rough questioning about shipbuilding. There was also some questioning over the new National Flagship.
