Draft Marine Plan for Northern Ireland
Public Consultation Report - Summary of Responses
April 2021
See page's 58 to 61 on the subject of Energy per link below:
Extract from Departmental Response on the subject of Energy -
'In working with policy leads, we will improve clarity of language and take the opportunity to signpost relevant guidance and approved good practice. We will reflect developments in relation to a new NI Executive Energy Strategy. Consideration will also be given to recognising floating technologies for tidal and offshore wind and offshore substations, the need for grid connections for energy proposals, along with the potential for oil and gas, and gas unloading and storage.'

Let's have the ML desicion then!!!
Tom O'Brien: Exploration ban forces Ireland to rely on British gas
Tom O’Brien
Sunday May 16 2021, 12.01am, The Sunday Times
"The government is to be congratulated for attempting to deliver ambitious legally binding targets for emissions reductions through the Climate Action Amendment Bill. This will be the most important achievement of the bill — one that will have lasting benefits for the environment and Irish society. Less beneficial and more likely harmful to the environment is the aim to ban future gas exploration in Irish waters. This move not only puts our energy security at risk, it will almost certainly lead to higher emissions from our energy system."
"Natural gas provides over 50 per cent of Ireland’s electricity, and about a third of our total energy. While onshore wind is thankfully contributing more to our daily energy needs, it is, and will remain, hugely variable."
Thanks for your reply NigelHaemoglobin have to agree on relevant components which would make more sense to use the project as a trial for Hydrogen storage and get it right in the 1st place ? As for long way in future probably not as in Scotland and other parts of the UK they have hydrogen buses and Hydrogen trains etc being built (i have interests in other hydrogen companies) and storage is high on the agenda of requirements along with the offshore wind farms to produce the energy required to produce Hydrogen
Must add my reason for investment in INFA was for the ship building and providing jobs for an important industry for the UK which has been in decline for years looking into Islandmagee gas storage facility has been a big plus for me
Just like to add thanks to all the informative members on here for your posts they are much appreciated
GLA OT
Good research, my view is that all relevant components will be made using an appropriate stainless steel, in order to avoid hydrogen embrittlement as concentrations of H2 are incrementally increased. A long way into the future!
Many thanks for your reply stokey12 that was the impression i initially had however that written evidence implies that INFA would like the UK gov to use Islandmagee as a trial Hydrogen storage solution would you agree ?
oldtramp In relation to your m15.56 post the current planning permission is for gas storage. If and when it is decided to transition to hydrogen an amendment would be needed to the planning permission to allow for the storage of hydrogen.
New to this share been looking into Islandmagee gas storage facility do we know if the planning application is for natural gas or hydrogen? Came across Islandmagee gas storage facility and Hydrogen being discussed by parliament committee Jan 21 which would tie in my post of 07.56
Many thanks in advance OT

Great info Lottie thanks. Just shows how much government can assist industry when they have the will to do so. Let's hope Boris and his shipping tsar Ben Wallace can take a leaf out of Japan's book!
I noticed and updated in a following post stokey.it's a strong buy for me.
that should be are now showing.
Chitta123 In relation to your 12.29 post I see you are not showing a strong buy. I have this week gone from a strong buy to a Buy. My reasons are the uncertainty over the Marine License and the possible delay to the Triumph order. Neither appears to be due to factors within the BoD's control.
Having read the recent note from Cenkos the possibility of a breakeven this year is not too remote to justify a hold. In fact assuming that INFA gets a refund of expenditure on IslandMagee this year that is posted to the P&L account then on the figures in the Cenkos note INFA would achieve breakeven.
BIG NEWS. UK could follow.

Not a strong sell but a strong buy.
No detail on island magee in presentation and we have anot experienced manager on the project who has been busy it would appear(doing what exactly)?.it is only my opinion but it's seems obvious to me that this year we will likely see the real truth behind those caverns and I suspect we will it only retain a relatively small interest..infa is very good at spending cash and generous bonus,s for Jw and co suggests to me they know that there will be a healthy injection of cash coming our way .island magee finances the true focus for infa and that is renewable sources and shipbuilding etc.Clock is ticking until revelations in my view.
Not sure if you have seen this on BBC last month it features H&W Belfast at about 30 mins in good insight

Tango,yes agree there
I hope the ML comes after the placing not before as could subdue the rise IMO. But just to get it will be great.
Hi oldtramp - This is a great find see extract from full report below page 14:
'Islandmagee, near Larne in County Antrim, is the location of a project of common interest (PCI) that is developing a low-cost fast cycle gas storage facility that will serve the island of Ireland and mainland UK. Seven caverns will be developed, with a combined storage capacity of up to 500 Mm3 of gases. Project members are currently in talks with regulatory authorities in relation to discharge consent and marine construction licences needed to confirm the projects go ahead.
The project at Islandmagee and the development of storage caverns to store NG builds experience and capability in NI. This will enable decarbonisation transitions, with the NG network seeing increased hydrogen concentrations and storage capability in the Larne salt deposits.'
I would add that this report dated March 2021 must push the Marine License over the finish line and yet no mention by INFA.This is surely a game changer !!!!!!!!
Apologies if this has been posted before
“ The Islandmagee facility available near Larne in NI can be used to facilitate the migration away from NG towards hydrogen and the eventual operational support of an all-island hydrogen grid. This facility can also be used as a hub for hydrogen for mobility applications. This dual use suggests that any future hydrogen plan should be centred on maximising the exploitation of this resource. Connection via gas grid interconnectors will act in a similar way to how they do today for NG, as the UK system has a network of NG storage caverns – which will also likely be migrated to hydrogen over time. This is the only such facility on the island of Ireland and therefore it should be an area of focus for any future hydrogen implementation plans.”

Edwin Poots elected DUP leader as he pledges to 'fight' the NI Protocol and work together with other unionists

Edit: This should not delay the decision on the ML by very much time hopefully & I am guessing by the end of June.
Any more thoughts on what happened to the presentation video? Why was it taken down? Weird
RazorShultz In relation to your 15.41 I would add that if they think INFA is in its death throes they probably cannot read the accounts properly. If that assessment was anywhere near correct I would expect to see a balance sheet deficit not a surplus.
Institutions can and do read everything, unlike a good number of morons I see frequently posting here
Looks like the institutions didn't bother either Razor or they would have surely offered more than 30p.......
