Energy security is a real serious concerns unless the people of Northern Ireland are planning on going back to candles.Gas will play a huge role in the transition to zero carbon if there is such a thing as zero carbon. Both the Irish and British government will have had discussions and for me the gas storage caverns will be hived off with any financial gain going towards the company's Engineering plans. We have all done some homework and I am reasonably confident the gas will come from AFriday.
It's was never a case of just the objectors, who always seemed a bit late to game. imo
Yes, the energy security maybe important, possibly. There are conflicting ideas on that now, as so much time has passed sorting this out. Things have moved on from when this project was first proposed.
As I see it, one of the main stumbling blocks to the whole thing was, and still is, the reversal of the SNIP.
Which, although sounds painful, was key to getting gas back to the mainland.
There was even talk of incorporating it into a bridge at one point.
It almost would have been almost better to have found another site on the mainland. Somewhere like, I dunno, Portland?
Even the one proposed by Gateway Storage off Barrow never got off the ground.
Nah, be glad they have H&W as an out and forget gas storage and the sunken cost fallacy that IM has become.
IMO
Chrisatrdg In relation to your 12.31 post the other important thing is that the ship will strictly speaking be a Royal Navy Ship. This designation was to ensure that only British firms can bid. As a result the number of potential bidders is reduced to five or less.
Great post's - see important extract below:
'Construction of the ship is expected to begin as soon as next year and the ship will enter service within the next four years. The tendering process for the design and construction of the ship will launch shortly, with an emphasis on building a vessel which reflects British design expertise and the latest innovations in green technology. '
The ML was always a certainty .Ireland energy security is more important than any objectors.
Have just seen this https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/pace-of-change-at-methil-boosts-jobs-xfx5cj9qr Hoefully we will see more fabrication contracts soon.
I wouldn't ignite the main engines just, Nostradamus. lol
I refer you to my post of yesterday at 13:02. ;)
Wiki link to what was "claimed to be the largest British-built superyacht" that had the hull constructed at Appledore.

Only thing we don't know if they have managed to hang on to or re-employ the required skilled personel after most left the area to get work in Devonport. But I guess, should such a contract be aquired I'm sure getting similar back on the payroll wouldn't be out of the question.
Everything comes to he who waits .Anyone else getting the feeling the ML is about to be delivered.Timing impossible to get spot on but relative to the wait we have endured we are nearly ready for lift off.
This was the guy I was thinking of.

Has some interesting concepts and again, local to H&W.

If they do go ahead with a project of this nature it's not the sort of thing you want to cheep out on, imo.
Especially if you want to showcase it to the world.
Still looking for the other architect but did spot these guys, just down the road in Newry.

They would make a good fit, no pun intended. :)
Si_Derman In relation to your 07.22 post yes that is the one I had in mind. The flagship that the PM has in mind is about a third cheaper. That said I am not sure that there are many shipyards with the dock size to build the new flagship.
Here is something related to the proposal by one architect.
https://shipmonk.co.uk/2021/05/04/rule-britannia-2-designer-of-cunard-liner-queen-mary-2-reveals-200million-plan-for-a-new-royal-yacht-to-be-built-in-the-uk/
Not sure if this is the one you refer to Stokey, as I have seen another architect based in Belfast, i think, that had proposed something similar a while back. I'll try and find it.
How very exiciting, if something like this could be pulled out of the hat.
Here is the official announcement https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-national-flagship-to-promote-british-businesses-around-the-world
gravey6 In relation to your 23.32 post of yesterday at least one Naval Architect has proposed that such a ship is built in Northern Ireland at H&W. In addition before it was taken over by BAB H&W Appledore did build yachts. It should be noted that most of the other shipyards that could do such a build due to its size are all defence yards and not equipped to build a yacht. The exception Cammell Laird when it built the research ship Sir David Attenborough delivered it about 2 years late.
If INFA did go for the tender I suspect it would do it with BMT who are experienced British Naval Architects and are working with INFA as part of Team Resolute. I wonder what this will do to the share price?
With the announcement by the government of a new ship being commissioned for trade deals, ministerial support etc what are the chances of INFA picking up some of the work as they want a UK built and design ship? Obviously details are a bit scarce at the moment having just been announced but do they have experience in this kind of shipbuilding?
Just seen this https://www.contracts.mod.uk/esop/toolkit/opportunity/current/51386/detail.si The listed attachment makes interested reading. In particular what it says about CPP. In view of what it says about delivery on time I am slightly more confident about Team Resolute's chances.
I guess if at least somebody says it once a week for a couple of years someone will eventually be right. ;)
Bubble2021 In relation to your 07.55 post may I ask what is the basis of your comment as I cannot see anything in the pubic domain to support this.
Not long now gla
I'm hanging tight.. only a matter of time folks
jfk9,
Inconsistent and untrustworthy government - or board?
We desperately need some good news and something to at least lift the sp above placing price. At least on this occasion I only took up a relatively small proportion of my allocation under the placing, reflective of my confidence in the operation. Infa’s fate, I fear, is very much in the hands of an inconsistent and untrustworthy government.
Just seen this https://www.stornowaygazette.co.uk/business/arnish-to-be-active-again-by-august-say-company-3251986 If Arnish gets business of its own this year that will affect whether INFA reaches breakeven this year.
BurtonD - Brilliant find & tells investors all one needs to know about INFA & hopefully the recent fund raise has improved the INFA Group's Balance Sheet.
There are two 'elephants in the room' - ML & lack of contracts at H&W Belfast once we get over those hurdles it is game on & yes I did like the video.
Just to add to the mix I have in the last year had e-mail contact with DAERA the latest one see below:
Date: 19th May - DAERA Marine Licensing Team (MarineLicensingTeam@daera-ni.gov.uk)
To:you Details
Dear Mr Mxxxxx,
Thank you for highlighting the report ‘Hydrogen – Exploring Opportunities in the NI Energy Transition’ .
The current marine licence application and considerations are for the storage of natural gas only. The Minister is aware that the Company may wish to explore hydrogen storage in the future through a separate application.
Regards,
Marine Licensing Team

I appreciate that submissions have closed concerning the opportunity for members of the public to make comments but wondered if this report may be of interest to Mr Poots when making his decision on the Marine License & associated licenses.
The report is dated March 2021 so after the close for public comment.
Thanking you in advance.
