The Harland & Wolff submission is on the second page of the list of written evidence it makes a very good read sets out the position well and has sound recommendations,
In relation to my 16.18 post the submission is the third one if you click all written evidence you will see the rest of the submissions including from BAe.
This submission to the Defence Select Committee Inquiry has focussed on the FSS Competition https://committees.parliament.uk/work/1209/the-navy-purpose-and-procurement/publications/

Did you know that there is a gas pipeline not far from Barrow that supplies Ireland with gas ?DYOR
Loosegoose In relation to my 09.32 post I have just read the FT article. HMG seems to be determined to prove its incompetence at every turn. They should have excluded civilian shipbuilding.
Unbelievable if you believe want some say on here imho , lovely day looking out over Morecambe bay this morning watching all the work being done around the estuary DYOR
Loosegoose In relation to your 09.22 post do you have a link to the story? I do not think it would be that hard to avoid international competition. It depends on how you word the requirements of the tender. If you word it like 'The bidder must be able to evidence an expression of the best in British design and craftmanship utilising the best of workmanship from the home nations.' This wording can be justified by the purpose of the ship.
On the time before the start of build I thought it was nearer nine months as the original reporting said that the building will start next year after the tender competition.
Just read in the FT that the plan to build UK trade ship will break WTO agreement. Experts have warned that it would be hard for the UK to avoid allowing international competition to build the ship unless it was an actual military vessel. Emily Thornberry, shadow trade secretary, said the government had failed to take “the most basic and simple steps” to guarantee the boat could be built in Britain. Will be interesting to see how this one pans out - might impact the 6 month timeframe to start the build.
Tango1 In relation to your 07.13 post. As tenders can take 9 months or more I would expect to see an uptick in contract awards in H2.
There seems to be a problem with the pipeline!
oldchamp,
I have no idea what your last post means!
Proves to me they had THEIR best interests at heart......
Please accept my apologies BlairPeach my post was meant to be totally passive i am just looking into the company and Directors.
"suggesting that those who chose to swerve the placing were the smart ones" proves to me that the BOD have had our best interests at heart by raising £10 MIN at 30p
oldtramp,
A slightly passive-aggressive post, if ever I saw one.
The placing failed to raise the anticipated sum, despite a massive discount to the prevailing share price.
Since then, the share price has dropped by close to 10% below the offer price, suggesting that those who chose to swerve the placing were the smart ones.
One further question BlairPeach if you do not mind helping me again £10.3 million before expenses under the Placing at an Issue Price of 30 pence per share, following the closing of the accelerated bookbuild was raised i am confused how they managed that by selling a "white elephant"
Thanks for your help
It is one thing to advertise for new recruits; it is entirely another thing actually to employ them...
Surely we all remember the advertisements for all manner of tradespeople at Islandmagee in 2019 - how many were ultimately engaged?
Thanks for your reply Stokey, that's clarified things but I echo ttny...it doesn't make sense in my head to only give support for exports (aside from the obvious). Further research is needed my thinks. Re fsru, pretty sure at the roadshow they stated it was not yet economically viable so it's on the shelf for now. Great turnaround time for the yaught....saves waiting an age for the outcome!
oldtramp,
I believe the FSRU project to be dead in the water (pardon the pun).
Happy to be corrected, though.
Hi BlairPeach what is your thoughts on FSRU Project floating LNG receiving facility offshore at Barrow-in-Furness, ? Must admit i only invested in here for the H&W side of the company so just looking into this side of the company
stokey12,
I have been entirely consistent in my belief that INFA's focus should always be with Islandmagee and that I believe the H&W yards to be white elephants; at the time of the "acquisition" of Belfast, I stated that the only chance of H&W surviving was with the injection of public money, however that may be dressed up. I also acknowledged at the time that, should such funding be forthcoming, there was a chance of success. As time passes, both look less and less likely.
Having worked with shipyards, albeit somewhat tangentially, they are the last place I would want to place my money. I invested in an energy company, not large tracts of bankrupt sea-shore!
BlairPeach In relation to your 16.01 post you state 'As I have said from Day One, H&W's only chance is public money and lots of it, quick!' I recall you on numerous occasions saying that if the ML is not granted then INFA will not survive I do not recall you saying that the only chance is from lots of public money. Which ever reflects your view I do not agree with you. My view is that INFA would be able to survive on contracted work especially in relation to work connected to wind farm developments.
The "shorter" is a concern but more so is the pipeline of work that we are constantly reminded of; it seems to be a little bit blocked and I am wondering why that might be? Competence or lack of competitiveness might just be contributing to the malaise as well as the unfortunate lack of presentation material and new news. The announcement of the £1.6 million just before the investor presentation was already concluded weeks before. Let's put it down to COVID bunging up the valve as we try to secure more meaningful work; its been a good stopgap for some months now.
The DUP are busy tying themselves up in knots (which they are legendary at) so perhaps I should not be surprised at seeing the share price where it is ...... even though someone told me not to worry as it would soon be back to the high 30s soon. Hmmmmm
Thanks Stokey i did think the time frame was somewhat short
One other quick question we obviously have a seller do you think it is Bab**** (Appledore shares ) i see they are making cuts ?
https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/plymouth-news/bab****-international-says-plans-cut-5292367
oldtramp In relation to your 16.23 post I was aware of the new flagship but my understanding was that the tendering process would take until next year. Both INFA and Cammell Laird have stated that they would be tendering for this.
