That last sentence was a nod towards PV panels. Less conspicuous than the big wurly things. :)
I see The East has covered some of what I wanted add but thought I'd post this anyway.
It's a post I was penning this morning before I had to rush out. Was looking for somewhere to guage the heights of surrounding land at the time so cut and pasted it till I could finish it later. It's now later. :)
Acerage wise, it would appear they have plenty of land for such a use. But, imo, there would be too many factors that would go against such a proposal. Firstly, which parts of the unused land, ie. not buildings, quays and car parks, would actually be suitable given the topography. The yard is on the leeward side of the surrounding hills to the prevailing winds and obviously is down at sea level. Not massive hills, approx 50m at most, according to this map.
https://en-gb.topographic-map.com/maps/iu/United-Kingdom/
But turbines would need to be of a size to comfortably clear them to be effective. Also the proximity to the village, that relies predominantly on tourism, plus any immediate neighbouring residences might also be an issue.
The area boarders ANOB's and a SSSI at Northam Burrows. So if they were of a size to make them of any use would be quite visable to all of the above. There are quite a number of existing turbines across the estuary on hills surrounding Barnstaple but these are outside of the ANOB, I believe.
What they do have, though, is some quite nice south facing roof space above the dry dock building, and others.
TheEast Thanks for your 16.01 post.
Hi Stokey,
Link here, if it works, to an extract of what INFA own at Appledore- https://ibb.co/F6Zp2Fg
There is a slight problem with a hill in the way unfortunately, which highest point is at least 15m above the higher level of INFA's land on the western prevailing wind side, so might not be technically feasible.
I'm not overly sure the LinkedIn post today points towards any sort of ongoing collaboration with Navantia, more a bit of PR/ remember we're still here tone. Who knows though, is one I'd like to see develop.
Those on LinkeIn- worth looking at Gray Johnstones profile, as he does make comment to INFA on recent posts regarding the LoI. To be fair, the profile doesn't do anything to build confidence that TSS were a serious customer.
Cheers
TheEast
Chrisatrdg,
Thanks.
Given the date of that article, it is interesting that JW has commented on linkedin today, 24 hours after someone on here called into question the extent of the Navantia tie-up, given the concern over share price fluffing and the Triumph debacle...

stokey12,
Could you give a brief synopsis for those of us who do not have a linkedin account?
Just seen this https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6818139121035292672-fjbk looks like collaboration with Navantia is still on.
Good recent video on NI hydrogen requirements

spudtheplumber In relation to your 19.46 post of yesterday the suggestion was one for consideration rather than immediate execution. The land is there and with climate change being high on the agenda the ability to tout a green shipyard may be an important advantage.
Infa's response as published today in a follow-up article.

Wondering if they a response to the response. lol
Si look at our relationship with BMT
Regarding the financing The gov is due to release details very soon on the programme INFA did not mention from whom it came from lol
Thanks for the update, btw, OT. Shame they are looking so far afeild with a shipyard so close at hand.
Could that financing programme mentioned in the trading update, in regards to cruise work, be extended to ship building?
We spoke of this in the ealry part of last month as Appledore buit it's predecessor.

stokey12,
I have questioned your grasp of the English language before; from that post, I am concerned that there are greater questions to be answered. I assume you were joking, to take the edge off what has been a disastrous period for INFA investors?
That's the type of project Appledore needs!

who knows spud ?
Page 3 no tits but BMT
Absolutely fantastic idea Stokey!
JW & AR will be drafting a LOI with EDF as we speak ;0))
Maybe get some work through Appledore first???
I am of the view that INFA should explore the possibility of using the freehold land or part of it for a onshore windfarm to power the Appledore shipyard with any excess electricity being exported to the grid. This would have the effect of lowering the running costs of Appledore and by extension INFA.
@ spud enjoy your popcorn chap lol

Found this.
Tenure and Terms.
The property is held freehold and is available with vacant possession on a new lease on terms to be agreed.
Not sure what was agreed though.
I will ask, "someone who may know", wink, wink. If I see them tomorrow.
Yeah, I know you have. Just messing about. :)
Here's the original bumpf from the agent selling it.

I know the site quite well as I used to get bulk sand from there in the past. You may be aware it's kind of split in two with the old sand yard in betwen the main Bidna yard where the dry dock is, and the Newquay and slipway.
Think this has got some outlines of the boundaries on.
Enjoy.
Lol si i have done quite a bit of research mate ....However at this moment in time it is all speculative
Just one more question to anyone has it been clarified that the 29 acres of freehold land at Appledore is indeed freehold ?If so i be great to see the boundaries if anyone has found them ?
Happy to help, OT. :)
But don't make a habit of it and do your own bloody research. lol
